5’4 is very slim?

OP posts:
Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/10/2020 16:10

I'm 5'4 and used to hover around that weight. I have a naturally small frame, narrow hips and small breasts so it wasn't underweight. I'm overweight now at 11 stone unfortunately! I think around 9st looks best on me, I carry all my weight in my stomach area so I look round if I put on too much.

TENDTOprocrastinate · 19/10/2020 16:17

I’m 5ft6. I weigh 8.5stone but I think I look like I weigh more. I’m small boned, very narrow hips, Apple shaped. I have a wobbly tummy (I can defo grab a slab rather than pinch an inch iykwim). To be flat tummy slim I need to loose at least half a stone! I’m a size 12 waist, size 8 hips! (So I generally wear size 10). Just goes to show that we are all different shapes/sizes/shapes!

Doingmybest4u · 19/10/2020 16:21

I think it depends on build. I’m 5.3 a

Chanjer · 19/10/2020 16:26

Same BMI as me and I'm definitely slim but not skinny or unhealthy looking

Zaphodsotherhead · 19/10/2020 16:29

It's interesting how much build makes a difference!

I'm generous of boobage, which means clothes tend to hang straight down from my chestal area. Nobody realised how skinny I'd got until I wore a dress containing lycra, which revealed that, apart from boobs, there was nothing to me.

Have since gained back around a stone and look far more healthy. So, for me at 5'6, 8 stone was far far too skinny.

Octopus37 · 19/10/2020 16:35

I weighed around 8st when my kids were young (also in my teens and early 20s) about 10 years ago. I'm 5ft5 and was in my 30s at the time, was slim, not skinny (started to look skinny when I went into the late 7s and worse some size 8s and some 10s. I'm now about a stone heavier, fluctuate at just over 9, did see 8st13.5 recently which gave me a bit of hope and need a size 12 in trousers and skirts. Aiming to get into the late 8s, dont think I can realistically get much lower now.

IntermittentParps · 19/10/2020 16:41

Dunno. I'm 9 stone-ish and 5' 10". Technically underweight going by BMI. But I look lanky rather than skinny – no obvious sticky-out bones. I eat a lot (according to others), and am energetic, do exercise etc. It's at least partially genetic, I think.

marshmallow95 · 19/10/2020 16:43

I'm 5'2 and I'm 7 1/2 stone, so yeah 8 stone is a healthy weight for 5'4 I would say :)

rhowton · 19/10/2020 16:48

I'm 5ft4 and I looked gaunt at 9 stone 5, as I'm boobie and hippie and quite muscly. I would look awful at 8 stone. I had enough people asking me if I was ok at 9 stone 5 😂

PuzzledObserver · 19/10/2020 17:28

@Got99ProblemsBut

I think people are assuming its slimmer than it is Confused I’m 5ft 3” and 8st and still have a belly and although I would count as “small” I’m definitely not intsagram/fitness model “slim” and just normal body size HTH Smile
I think that’s because Instagram/fitness model slim is not representative of most women. They are a very small subset, and most of us simply cannot achieve it. Normal is having a bit of a tummy, especially after you’ve had children.
MamaMiaMama · 19/10/2020 17:30

I don't think it is. I'm 5,5 and 8.8 stone and I am not slim. I have friends my height who weigh 11 stone but to look at us both high wouldn't know what we both weighed

Runningdownthathill · 19/10/2020 17:33

I was 8 stone when I was a teenager. 8 and a half is probably right for me now at 5 foot 3. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be ever be that weight again, but I’m slim not very slim at that weight.

Junkmail · 19/10/2020 17:37

Totally depends on frame size and where you carry your weight. I’m around 8 stone and I’m 5’6. My sis is around the same height, a little shorter and she’s around 7st 10lbs—we’re just slight framed people. Neither of us look too thin.

MitziK · 19/10/2020 17:44

Well, I weighed around that when I woke up after a week unconscious with Meningitis. My mother was quite pleased, as was I because it was easier than continuing with the eating disorder.

She still said I was fat, though. Just not as fat as I was at 8 stone 9.

EerieSilence · 19/10/2020 17:47

It is not too slim, definitely.
I am very slim, but I am also very petite, with a very light bone structure.

Beaverdam100 · 19/10/2020 17:49

I'm 5.5 and 8 stone. I'm eat what i like and always stay 8 stone or up to 8.3 if bloated etc.

It's genetics. My mam is also small.

Beaverdam100 · 19/10/2020 17:50

I also don't look too small as I have boobs and curves. I suppose it depends on body type.

carooCarou · 19/10/2020 17:53

I'm about half an inch under 5'4 and weigh 7 stone. I look and feel very underweight. I feel and look my best at about 8-8.5 stone. It does vary with peoples frame/build and two people of the same height can carry weight very differently. I don't think 8 stone at 5'4 is ever going to be anything but slim though.

carooCarou · 19/10/2020 17:55

Gosh MitziK I'm very sorry to read all of that. Some parents can be very cruel. I hope you are healthy and happy now.
Tw001 · 19/10/2020 17:55

Thats fine. I weight 7stone I'm 5 ft 5. Have been 6 stone , to thin. If you wonder how I weigh what I weigh i am intermittent eater. Have been for decades.

Branleuse · 19/10/2020 17:55

Its bordering underweight

Gooseygoosey12345 · 19/10/2020 17:56

Yes. I was 8 stone a few years ago, at that height, and honestly looked ill

Scarby9 · 19/10/2020 17:59

I was around 8 stone through my 20s while genuinely eating masses - and I am 5ft 6in. I have been 10 stone, when I look chunky and have a very visible tummy (comments made about pregnancy) and am now arround 9 stone. I think I am best now abot 81/2, but it is not worth what would now be an effort to get there.
Different people really do carry weight differently.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 19/10/2020 18:06

My teen dd is 5ft 6in and 8st 3lbs, she's recovering from an eating disorder and still very under weight.

What I've learnt through my dds ED is that what is a healthy weight for one person can be extremely unhealthy in someone else. Everybody has a unique healthy weight and varying body fat needs to function normally.

My dd went down to 8 stone and was severely unwell, periods stopped and heart rate dropped to 40 bpm.
