I'm 5ft 5 and 8 stone 2 lbs. I'm slim but still have boobs/a bottom and dont look skinny with it

BoulangerieBabs · 19/10/2020 13:20

The healthy weight range for your daughter's height starts at 7st 10. So at just over 7st your daughter is underweight

They're guides not law. She is, as I've already said, very tiny framed, complete opposite to me.

Charlieeee76 · 19/10/2020 13:21

@emmathedilemma

I don't think it's excessively thin. That's 50kg and I once got down to 55-56kg and I'm 2 inches taller. It wasn't particularly sustaintable for me but if you're not a big eater I think 8 stone at 5ft4 is probably a slim size 8 or so. We're too used to a size 14-16 being "normal"!
Your post made me laugh. It’s true though.

A size 8 is small though so maybe everyone has a different idea of slim based on clothes sizes I would say size 8 is quite slender.

SpaceOP · 19/10/2020 13:21

I think it would depend on build. I am a size 16 but I am actually more overweight than I think other women at that size would be as I'm very small boned and my bones are quite light (according to test done in my early 20s). Dh on the other hand has very dense heavy bones etc and has a very low body fat percentage and yet still has a BMI that is considered at the bottom end of over the ideal.

So a 5ft4 woman like me would be very slim but probably just about okay at that weight. Somebody less slight would be underweight.

bathorshower · 19/10/2020 13:23

I'm 5'4", and weighed 8 stone (a good while ago now!). I've got narrow shoulders and slim wrists/ankles, so I look slim but healthy at that weight. I look very slim at 7'8", which I have weighed as an adult, but wouldn't aim for. But if you've got wider shoulders/hips, then you'll look very slim at 8'.

Boulshired · 19/10/2020 13:23

DD is 5ft5 and has battled anorexia, she is restored and has been some time but anything under 8 stone 4 and her periods become irregular or stop completely. The top and bottom of BMI are outliers for body type and exercise. So it does really depend on the person.

MynephewR · 19/10/2020 13:25

I think it's really dependent on body shape. I'm 5'4 and would look really quite ill at 8 stone, I look best between 9.5 - 10 stone.

I'm 10st 10lbs at the moment and, whilst people would probably describe me as slim, I definitely have a fair bit of extra fat around my tummy and arms. Someone else with a different body shape could look really quite overweight at my height and weight. People are always shocked if I tell them how much I weigh. Everyone carries weight differently.

ReallySpicyCurry · 19/10/2020 13:25

I was a solid size 10 at 8'10 and 5'5 height. I'm a rectangle with very wide shoulders and I don't suit extra weight, it just makes me look even more rectangular and quite masculine, which I absolutely hate.

It's smack in the middle of my healthy weight range though. I don't know why people go on about "too slim" and crap about how BMI doesn't work. My healthy range is something like 7'13 to 10'10 which is a pretty wide range and accommodates plenty of body sizes and shapes

ReneeRol · 19/10/2020 13:25

It's normal slim.

JimmyTheBrave · 19/10/2020 13:25

Yes I'd say it's very slim.

I'm 5'5'' and at my lightest I was just over 8 stone, maybe 8 st 3 or 8 st 4. I was a size 6 on top and 8 bottom. My face was quite gaunt and I definitely didn't look my best, although I was arguably at my fittest as I was eating well and exercising often (4/5 times a week).

CounsellorTroi · 19/10/2020 13:26

Yes this. I have a medium/large frame and looked tiny at 5.2 and 8.5 stone. I was size 6-8. I could have lost another stone and still technically been a healthy weight but I would not have looked healthy!
PickAChew · 19/10/2020 13:27

Yeah. Not been there since I was in my early 20s.

DinosaurGrrrrr · 19/10/2020 13:28

My weight sits around 51kg (8 stone) at 5 ft 4, I’m not incredibly skinny, I’m a size 8 in clothes but not remotely bony or unhealthy looking. My weight has sat around this since I was about 16 (apart from when pregnant) and I don’t do anything to maintain it. I think it depends on your frame really, I know people who would look very ill at the same height and weight, but if you have a small frame as I do it doesn’t look unhealthy, fairly slim but not skinny.

MirandaWest · 19/10/2020 13:32

I’m 5 foot 4 and used to be 8.5 stone. Definitely wasn’t too thin - I looked good at that weight.

I am now about 10.5 stone but this is an improvement on the 12.5 stone I was a few months ago.

My DD is 5 foot 5 and about 8 stone 3 or so. She is not overweight but she isn’t too thin either.

honeylulu · 19/10/2020 13:32

I'm 5ft 6 and was 8 stone most of my adult life until my last baby age 40 put paid to that.

I was slim, yes and size 8. Not much in the way of body fat but I was very fit and healthy. I don't think too thin though. A bit bony at the shoulders and upper chest but if I ever gained a few pounds it went straight to my belly and bum/thighs which I liked even less.

I'm about 9 stone 5 now which is still considered "slim" but I have quite a round wobbly tum and bum (despite still being very fit with good muscle tone).

I think we've got used to people being "well covered" as the norm so anyone who is a healthy lean weight ends up being labelled skinny/bony/emaciated/skeletal.

Most of us eat more than we need, let's face it. I love food!

TheFairyCaravan · 19/10/2020 13:34

I’m 5’4 and I’m 8st 4lbs. I’m slim, not skinny. I’ve always been between 7st 5 and 8st 4lbs unless I was pregnant. I’ve got a tiny frame, my ankles, wrists and hands are child like. I wouldn’t suit being bigger. Everyone is different.

Blownaway1 · 19/10/2020 13:35

I’m 5 foot 4 and have been 8 stone and am now 9 stone and in my opinion lol better for it (been a long old slog in the weights room to achieve this) at 8 stone this would be a comfortable size 8 so yes I’d say slim. Put it this way, I’m now a stone heavier and most people would still say I’m slim.

Prufrocks · 19/10/2020 13:35

Mumsnet does love a weight thread.

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2020 13:35

Slim, but certainly not excessively so.

EssexCat · 19/10/2020 13:37

I’ve been 8st and 5’5 and looked scrawny. I’m now 9’4 and can still look a bit bony at times!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/10/2020 13:38

Ages ago now, I was 8 stone at 5 foot 7, and after two babies.

I didn’t consider myself painfully thin or bony, but I found out months after it had started that someone had spread a rumour that I was anorexic - because I’d declined biscuits at her house. At the time I preferred a fag with my coffee!

I never was anorexic, I’d just always had a small appetite. (Alas no longer - I haven’t been 8 stone for a good while now.).

But some people - especially fatties - can’t accept that someone is very slim because they honestly don’t eat much.
They like to think you can stuff cream cakes all day and not put on an ounce. I had a friend who repeatedly said how lucky I was to be able to eat anything and not put weight on - she never listened to the facts, just didn’t want to hear.

dontdisturbmenow · 19/10/2020 13:38

I'm 5'3'' and around 8 stones in my late 20s. I was a size 8-10 (at the time). My friend who is the sane height but looks slimmer and size 6 was 8 1/2 stone.

Bone size, density and muscular shape will make a large difference.

rebecca102 · 19/10/2020 13:39

I'm exactly that but wouldn't say I looked too skinny at all. The highest Ive weighed was 60kg when I was full term pregnant.

MsKeats · 19/10/2020 13:40

I'm that height at 8 stone I was beyond thin.

Angel2702 · 19/10/2020 13:41

All depends I’m 5ft 5 and to fit in size 10 I have to be 8 stone 2. At the weight considered ideal for my height I’m huge and 14/16 which is far too big for my frame.
