5’4 is very slim?

I think it totally depends on body shape as well as height. I think someone who is 5'4 with a small/slight build might be a healthy weight at 8 stone. Whereas someone who is 5'4 with a sturdier build might be a little underweight at 8 stone.

fantasmasgoria1 · 19/10/2020 13:05

I used to be 8 stone and I'm 5 ft 8. I am now a size bloody 12. I don't look big but I feel it. my mil and Fiance say they don't understand why I feel like it because to them I look slim but probably due to having an eating disorder I feel worse. I'm still battling it and I'm better than I used to be but I won't take much for it to just get bad again. My medications make me retain weight too.

Allthedoggos · 19/10/2020 13:05

I'm 5ft 4in and at 8st I'm a very small size 8 (looks back fondly at 2007). I'm 10st 4lbs now and I feel quite chunky, I'd say being 9 to 9 1/2 st would mean I'd be slim, 8st I'd be proper skinny.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 19/10/2020 13:06

It's slim but not too slim. I'm 5ft 3.5" and 7 stone 10. Depends on frame of the person, body shape etc

TheEmpressOfUtterBastardry · 19/10/2020 13:07

I'm 5 ft 2 and used to weigh 7 stone. I was unwell though, and didn't realise it. I'm heavier now but secretly long to be underweight again. Shock. It's an ongoing struggle 😫

randomsabreuse · 19/10/2020 13:11

Depends...

Body type, build, muscle levels, possibly ethnic origin will all affect the actual "healthy" limits for the individual.

Rainbowllama4 · 19/10/2020 13:12

I’m 5,4 and was just under 8 stone all my adult life, I’ve gained a stone and look so much better. Looking back at photos I was far too thin.

HelloDaisy · 19/10/2020 13:14

Dd is 5’4 and 8 stone but she’s only 14.

JinglingHellsBells · 19/10/2020 13:14

why d o you ask @Iftheclouds?

Do you mean TOO thin ( and it's a criticism of someone) or someone has had a dig at you?

It depends on build.

I am under 8st and 5 3"

I am not skinny. I have fat.

bluebluezoo · 19/10/2020 13:14

It depends. I am 5’4, a muscular hour glass build.

I was 8’2 in my late teens- it took me 800 cals a day and shit loads of exercise (i was a dancer) to get there.

While I don’t remember looking that thin, it was not maintainable. Normal exercise and eating has me about 9’4.

But oddly enough I have a very disordered body image and eating so I couldn’t honestly assess my own size and health. I saw myself as fat at 8 stone as I did at 12 after pregnancy. To me there is no difference in how I look, I’m always fat.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 19/10/2020 13:15

I was 8st 4lb at 5' 10" all through my late teens and early 20s. I could eat what I liked and not gain an ounce.

I wish I could say that now - still a size 10 but it's now hard work to stay there.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 19/10/2020 13:15

I'm 5'2" and in my teens and early 20s I was about 7st 8 ish. In my mid to late 20s I was 8st. It's crept up a lot now but I didn't look ill, gaunt, skinny or anything like that. I look at myself in photos from then and I just look healthy. Now I'm 11st 10 and look ill, tired, fat and flabby.

Nonamesavail · 19/10/2020 13:15

I was 5ft 3 and 8st and it was my perfect size. Not too slim

Magicbabywaves · 19/10/2020 13:15

It’s normal surely? I’m 5 3 and weigh 8 stone 7. I could do with losing some belly fat.

sqirrelfriends · 19/10/2020 13:15

It depends on how muscular you are, for me I gain muscle really easily and look too thin at anything under about 20bmi where my body fat percentage is very low.

For someone with less muscle mass they would have a higher body fat percentage at the same weight so would look less gaunt.

CounsellorTroi · 19/10/2020 13:16

@BoulangerieBabs

My dd is 5ft4 and weighs just over 7st. Yes she's very slim but her frame is tiny so she looks a perfect weight and not remotely underweight.
The healthy weight range for your daughter's height starts at 7st 10. So at just over 7st your daughter is underweight.
Camomila · 19/10/2020 13:16

I'm 5'3" and was 8 stone until I had DS2 (now 8.5) It's slim but it's still healthy. I was 7.5 all through my teens.

I'm just small framed, I always buy girls boots (the ankle bit is too wide otherwise) and my wedding ring is more usually a 'teen' size than a 'ladies' size.

Littleposh · 19/10/2020 13:17

Spent most of my 20s like that but I wouldn't have classed myself as skinny. Slim, yes but I wasn't a bag of bones. Oh how I miss those days 😂😂

Trut · 19/10/2020 13:18

I’m 5’4” and just under 8 stone. Slim but not skinny. Just normal

nevernotstruggling · 19/10/2020 13:18

I was 7st 12 at 5'4'' when I got pregnant with dd1.

It's a normal weight. Think my bmi was 18.5.

EvelynBeatrice · 19/10/2020 13:18

I don’t think it is ‘ very slim‘, no. It depends on exact weight and height and build. I’m about the same height and maybe 8.5 stone, give or take a pound or two and have been most of my life. It’s what used to be a U.K. size 10-12 but is now an 8. That’s bang in middle of healthy weight for that height according to last medical, so I suppose at 8 stone dead might be on lighter end of scale but wouldn’t say necessarily underweight.

emmathedilemma · 19/10/2020 13:19

I don't think it's excessively thin. That's 50kg and I once got down to 55-56kg and I'm 2 inches taller. It wasn't particularly sustaintable for me but if you're not a big eater I think 8 stone at 5ft4 is probably a slim size 8 or so. We're too used to a size 14-16 being "normal"!

Begonias · 19/10/2020 13:19

I'm 5ft5, I'm my late twenties and early thirties I was 8st-8.5st I'm now in my mid forties and 10st. Looking at my photos of when I had my first DD I actually looked ill, very thin and gaunt. I prefer my body now,I actually have boobs and a bum 😂

iloveeverykindofcat · 19/10/2020 13:19

For most people, yes. Dependent on frame size. At the moment I can't bring myself to maintain more than 7st 7 at 5"4 but I've had an eating disorder since I was 13. I felt very healthy at 8st and was eating better. I still saw myself as big of course but was able to rationalize it. On another person I'd see it as thin.

OpEd · 19/10/2020 13:19

I'm 5ft8 and I was 8 stone when I got pregnant with my second. I was still a size 8-10.
