I’m fascinated by them, how do you eat them, what do they taste of and what’s the difference between a saveloy and a chippy sausage?

Nothing like a hotdog or normal sausage. They are steamed or boiled.
Lovely with some salt and vinegar on! The meat is peppery, a little spicy. The casing is tougher than a normal sausage.

Saveloy - I've not eaten a bag of dead earthworms myself but I am reliably informed they taste very similar.
Sausage - proper butcher's sausages are lovely, those from Happy Eater and the like, well see Saveloy above.

graceeellixo · 11/10/2020 21:21

Do you eat that plastic on the outside?

QuestionableMouse · 11/10/2020 21:23

No, you peel it off!

boabab · 11/10/2020 21:23

Genius of a question. Just eat the thing.

Crunchymum · 11/10/2020 21:24

Had my first one in years when we went to seaside last month.

Was bitterly disappointed. Couldn't finish it, think it was overcooked?

  • I should have had fish like everyone else.

If anyone commenting/browsing is from the Tameside area please comment where I will find a saveloy x

Dickson's in the north east. They all do a saveloy dip. Mustard and pease pudding in a bun dipped in gravy if you want.

They're surprisingly nice to eat but lie like a rock in my stomach for hours so don't have them often.

AriettyHomily · 11/10/2020 21:30

But like a mattesons smoked sausage but the skin is more plastic, and a bit more peppery. Used to love them, can't eat them now.

graceeellixo · 11/10/2020 21:32

I hate that, when you suddenly can’t eat foods you once loved, I loved McDonald’s bigmacs I ate them about 4 times a week when I was pregnant now the smell makes me vomit

Sadly I'm NW and NE is too far to go for a sausage. Lol. Next time I'm in that area or down south I'll make sure to seek one out.

graceeellixo · 11/10/2020 21:36

@amusedtodeath1 shall we do a coach trip 🤣🤣

My local chippy doesn't do saveloys. I may have to venture across town to get one. I really fancy one now !

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 11/10/2020 21:41

Like a really girthy frankfurter wearing a tight condom

fmlfmlfmlfm · 11/10/2020 21:43

You are v unreasonable. Now craving saveloy and chips can't remember the last time I had one. A slightly spicy hotdog sausage x

fmlfmlfmlfm · 11/10/2020 21:45

And no you leave the outside on.

Hoppinggreen · 11/10/2020 21:48

I am in Yorkshire and normally get them from Sainsburys deli counter ( currently closed)

bruffin · 11/10/2020 21:49

@QuestionableMouse

No, you peel it off!
I don't I always have a savaloy and cod roe from the chip shop
Hoppinggreen · 11/10/2020 21:49

You leave the skin on, biting through it is the best bit

Imissmoominmama · 11/10/2020 21:49

@AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings- yum 🤢Grin

userxx · 11/10/2020 21:50

Maine road chippy sell them!! You can order of just eat, might not be piping hot by the time it arrives at yours but it's better than nothing 👍. I find them strange, it's got the texture of pate.

graceeellixo · 11/10/2020 21:51

@userxx I fucking love you for that x
