I like to think of this hideous Presidency as the last gasp of an old, white raging patriachal order.

Probably overly optimistic but still ... Smile

lionheart · 12/10/2020 22:00

Joseph R. Biden sounds excellent.

Minimammoth · 12/10/2020 22:03

Don’t get me started on Johnson and the Spectator squad.
Not long before we’re getting daily pressers.

Roussette · 12/10/2020 23:04

I am dreading that
It's just not us.

From The Guardian:
US President Donald Trump has tested negative for Covid-19 and he is not infectious to others, the White House physician said on Monday.

In a memo released by the White House ahead of Trump’s rally in Florida, Dr. Sean Conley said Trump had tested negative on consecutive days using an Abbott Laboratories BinaxNOW antigen card.

He said the negative tests and other clinical and laboratory data “indicate a lack of detectable viral replication.”

Conley did not specify how many consecutive days Trump had tested negative for.

Lweji · 13/10/2020 07:57

That means his pcr tests are positive. Grin
But, if true that they can't detect antigen or viral replication, he's probably not infectious.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/10/2020 08:00

Just exhausting.
News reports today of people waiting in lines for over 6+ hours to take advantage of early voting commencing in some states, unauthorised (Illegal) ballot drop off boxes placed around 3 counties in Calif by the local GOP, maskless GOP attendees at SC Senate hearing and Il Duce's rally in Florida.

And this is Trump now. (As Charlie Brown would say "Good grief!")

"Now they say I'm immune. I feel so powerful. I'll walk in there, I'll kiss everyone in that audience,” Trump told the crowd. “I'll kiss the guys and the beautiful women, just give you a big fat kiss.”

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/10/2020 08:06

What's the aim for those unauthorized ballot boxes? Trick people in to using them? Or collect them and drop them all off together?

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/10/2020 08:09

Scrotus "Now they say I'm immune"

but...

TheNorthWestPawsage · 13/10/2020 08:31

The boxes are basically illegal. GOP say they are for the "convenience" of (their) voters and they're just trying to help...

But they are of course open to all sorts of misuse and cannot be reliably or legally monitored. Plus who's to stop anyone just putting out a box and then "losing" or "enhancing" the contents?

Criminal just isn't a good enough word for what the GOP continues to do.

Roussette · 13/10/2020 09:21

I am taken aback at how long people are having to queue to vote? 5 hours, 6 hours and there was a news report at how there wer 15 minute queues in the white neghbourhood but in an adjacent black area the queues were 5 hours. How can this be? Shock

Roussette · 13/10/2020 09:21

I mean black neighbourhood, not black area, sorry.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 13/10/2020 09:47

Close most of the polling stations, more people have to queue to use the ones you leave open.

Trump was right about election fraud and it's the Republicans doing it. Of course he would insist there was no malicious intent by his Party, they just wanted to prove how easy it would be for the Democrats to cheat

I would expect the ballots to be checked for validity wherever they are being counted, so fakes would be weeded out then: they would have to match someone on the electoral roll. And provided they are in sealed in envelopes, which I think is a legal requirement, they are not going to be easy to tamper with and not have the tampering detected. I suppose the miscreants might have a huge stack of official ballot papers and only put ones for the GOP candidate into them for delivery, discarding all the ones for the Democrat, but there is no way anybody could fool themselves or anyone who saw that going on that it was a legitimate activity, so there would be a distinct risk of being caught.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/10/2020 12:38

"official ballot papers" ought to be "official ballot envelopes". Sorry.

AcrossthePond55 · 13/10/2020 13:57

21 days until Election Day (early voting has started in many states)
99 days until Inauguration Day

I think their thinking is that since Dems are pushing for mail votes and Repugs are pushing for in person votes, that any drop box would be primarily (overwhelmingly?) Democratic ballots. Therefore if they just dump the ballots into the nearest river or incinerate them it will cost Biden a lot more votes than Scrotus. 🤷🏼‍♀️

The only other way for them to cheat with 'fake boxes' would be if they had copies of the electoral rolls and spent the time to compare the sealed envelopes and discard the registered Democrats' envelopes. At least in California, the envelopes have the name and address of the voter on the outside.

Deep into tinfoil hat territory here. At least I hope I am! But we're taking our ballots to the Registrar's Office just in case.

Absolutely disgusting. I hope the King family can take some kind of action to force the removal of the ad.

Flavabobble · 13/10/2020 15:35

Conley did not specify how many consecutive days Trump had tested negative for.

I’m choosing to read that as: we tested him back in May/June/July on consecutive days. I mean, those being his words etc etc. Because it’s fine to play semantics isn’t it?

(Still annoyed about the Fauci ad)

Roussette · 13/10/2020 15:54

The MLK ad is awful. And there's another famous person they've hijacked for an ad, whose family is furious.

Jackie Robinson’s family strongly objects to the use of Jackie Robinson’s image in a Donald Trump @JRFoundation The Trump campaign is in opposition to all that Jackie Robinson stood for and believed in. We’re insulted and demand that his image be removed!

Doesn't matter what was said/not said. You can't believe anything that comes out of that camp. He could be as positive as positive can be and they'd still lie about it. They sincerely feel to hell with the lives of anyone other than them.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/10/2020 17:29

I still really don't believe in a timeline which goes

1st October, positive test with symptoms (at 9pm Trump said on air to Hannity that it had been done)
2nd October, no symptoms but given oxygen in the morning and taken to Walter Reed that evening
3rd October, in Walter Reed
5th October, left WR for White House
9th October, Pennsylvania daytime rally on 10th cancelled, Florida evening rally cancelled
10th October, public appearance at White House
11th October, Florida rally with claims of two consecutive days of negative tests

Ronny Jackson who doesn't even know how to weigh a president...

From Washington Post:
Ronny Jackson, Trump’s former doctor, says he’s concerned ‘as a citizen’ about Biden’s fitness for office

Ronny L. Jackson, a former White House physician and retired Navy rear admiral, said Tuesday that even though he is no longer a practicing doctor and is not in a position to make a diagnosis, he is concerned “as a citizen” about Biden’s fitness for office.
“I actually don’t even practice medicine at this point,” Jackson, who is also the Republican nominee in the race for Texas’s 13th Congressional District, told reporters on a conference call organized by the Trump campaign. Jackson said that while he is not accusing Biden of having Alzheimer’s disease and has never had Biden as a patient, “I’m a physician, obviously, so I’ve seen a little bit about how the issues with cognitive ability, how they start.”
“You have good days and you have bad days,” he added. “That’s what I’m saying is going on here. … I’m not even saying it as a physician. I’m saying it as a concerned citizen."
...
Jackson was Trump’s personal physician in April 2018 when he was nominated to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs. But he withdrew from consideration amid allegations that he improperly dispensed medication to staff members, drank on the job and contributed to a hostile work environment. Jackson has denied the accusations.
