took me 20 mins to work it out

It's not a hand - it's the wrinkles from the two blouses fusing together to create an optical illusion!

Definitely just the wrinkles in the material of the clothes.

It definitely looks like a hand to me - if you zoom in close it looks even more hand like.

Doesn't mean I think it's a ghost though. It looks more like someone has moved whilst the photo was being taken or something along those lines.

Mind you, there was a derelict mill near where I grew up and it was the creepiest place I've ever seen, so who knows

it's the hand on the sholder of the girl on the right, they all have their arms folded but the hand doesn't belong to anyone in the photo.

The shitty attempt at erasing whoever was there, shown by the distortion in the girl behind's skirt, makes it at best an earliyish example of photo manipulation and more likely, somebody just a bit crap at Photoshop.

What people are saying is a thumb nail, I think is a button on the cuff of the dress. And the "fingers" are creases in the shoulder of the other girl's dress. If you cover up one and then the other, it's easy to see that they are just part of each girl's dresses

I have never seen this before, but it really creeped me out because these three all look really similar to myself. The one in the middle especially. Weird

Yep, if you think that the girl behind has a cuff on the top she is wearing which isn't as doubled up as the one on her other sleeve. it just looks like a wrinkled cuff that overlaps with the wrinkles on the front girls top. white circle is a button on the cuff.

My daughter had this (orone identical!) on her Myspace for ages, its the unattached hand on the shoulder that will apparantly come for you when you sleep if you don't pass the photo on. Creepy Pasta things drive me bonkers lol.

The girl who has the hand on her shoulder looks like she's been cut out of another photo and placed in this group one. Looking at the photo, look at the right side of her hair and body, looks different shade to the rest of the photo to me. Could possible explain the chair on the other side of her...

There are five women who look identical....weird hand might be lacking a body, but what about the looky-likies? That is strange in itself, surely?? They aren't just similar, 4 or 5 of them look like clones of each other.

I wondered but saw someone's post about the hand. Well spotted!

This isn't your family photo, OP, it's a photo of linen factory workers in Belfast and the woman with the creepy hand on her shoulder is Ellen Donnelly.

I think it could be a camera shake that were often common in old photos.

Someone said a man is in the photo...I can't work that out
I thought they were members of a female boxing team because several on the middle row appear to have jumping ropes tied around their waists and boxers jump rope to practice being light on their feet.
My favorite guess was the PP who said the woman in the back row had a bird stuck in her hair on the left side of her head

Iklboo yes, very creepy. Happened to me a year or so ago. SIL had been looking at YouTube videos of brides from early 20th century and found one of me! She phoned and told me and I thought 'yeah, ok then' then she sent it to me. Real wtf moment. It.is.me. My cousin uploaded it to snapfish and had a print made and framed it and doppelganger now languishes in amongst all my other family photos.

That link that PP posted, to Belfast.live shows two versions of the exact same photo, one with fewer women on it. It's definitely been the historical version of photoshopped. This makes me think it's a con or is a result of the manipulation of the image.
