In the days when photos were on a roll of film, you'd get stuff like that. I've got photos that contain other bits of pictures from the 70's. The picture that those bits were from would come out all black.

That one is digitally restored and the hand has been put there more clearer.

There looks like a few sets of twins, possibly.

category12 · 05/10/2020 21:08

This photo's been online for ages, don't know why you're pretending it's to do with your family tree Hmm.

Libertylee · 05/10/2020 21:13

It’s not one of those weird Victorian photographs where someone’s dead, is it?

caughtalightsneeze · 05/10/2020 21:13

Well some of those women are sure to be someone's great granny's, so why not the OP's? It's not an outrageous possibility.

FourPlasticRings · 05/10/2020 21:13

Maybe it is a photo of twin and triplet sets. Alternatively, could be a photographer back in the day altering images just because they could/to show off.
caughtalightsneeze · 05/10/2020 21:14

Great grannies, that should say.

AllAboutHallowsEve · 05/10/2020 21:15

"i came across it while doing my family tree and it was a wtf moment when i realised."

Bollocks. I've seen it online before.

category12 · 05/10/2020 21:17

Sure. I expect your picture is in the dictionary beside gullible too. Grin

BalloonSlayer · 05/10/2020 21:17

I thought it was that there were two modern young women inserted into the old photo.

OP said she came across it while doing the family tree, not that it was a photo of relatives.

The photo has been photoshopped, could have been several pics put together.

Wow. The author of that article really enjoys the subject. Brevity is not their forte! Useful though, thanks.

violetindigolilac · 05/10/2020 21:20

Lily Allen can time travel?

Lepetitpiggy · 05/10/2020 21:20

Perhaps she just meant it was a phot that was part of a website when doing her family tree? That's how I took it anyway

zaphodbeeble · 05/10/2020 21:21

I see it, extra hand

WokThisWay · 05/10/2020 21:21

Blimey, that article takes a long time to get to the point!

ktp100 · 05/10/2020 21:21

FFS, this is dumb as feck Hmm

Is it even a hand, or just folds of her dress?

Lockheart · 05/10/2020 21:21

It's not a hand, the fabric is ruched.

No big deal.

caughtalightsneeze · 05/10/2020 21:22

That's how I took it too.
Leimarel · 05/10/2020 21:25

This isn't your family photo, OP, it's a photo of linen factory workers in Belfast and the woman with the creepy hand on her shoulder is Ellen Donnelly.

Honeyandapple · 05/10/2020 21:28

They all look very similar. Stray hand or not

WaxOnFeckOff · 05/10/2020 21:30

I've see a few of these - what do you think it is op? A random ghost that's decided to give everyone a laugh and only have their hand visible? an escaped mental patient about to wreak havok? someone from harry potter wearing an invisibility cloak after they've travelled back in time but they've managed to leave their hand uncovered?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 05/10/2020 21:33

OP didn't say it was her family photo, just that she came across it whilst researching her family tree Hmm
And those women in the photo were real women so they have (we presume) relatives somewhere. Why can't op be one of them Confused

There's a famous photo from a particular small island. The man in the photo is my Step Fathers Grandad. Just because other people have seen the photo online, and possibly have a print of it as a souvenir, doesn't make it any less his relative!
