Debate ideas.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/10/2020 21:51

From lionheart's link:

the vice-presidential candidates - Vice-President Mike Pence and California Senator Kamala Harris - will be squaring off first in their debate on 7 October. It is expected to be less raucous than that of their running mates.

That would be because neither Harris nor Pence is a loud, bullying braggart, I should think.

BruceAndNosh · 01/10/2020 21:55

Aw bless.
McNinny claims SCOTUS nominee Amy Coney Barrett "was a Rhodes Scholar" (ie was awarded one of the most prestigious scholarships to Oxford University.
She actually went to Rhodes College in Tennessee...
Reminds me of a former boyfriend who casually mentioned "his College in Cambridge" which turned out to be the sixth form college he attended to repeat his failed A levels

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/10/2020 22:03

Happens with Oxford Brookes University; a lot of its students say they are at Oxford University.

AcrossthePond55 · 01/10/2020 22:52

@BruceAndNosh

Donny's not happy...

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
Why would I allow the Debate Commission to change the rules for the second and third Debates when I easily won last time?

Answer...
You didn't win you dufus.
You changed the rules in the first debate by not abiding by them.

He doesn't get to 'allow' jack shit. The rules are set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, a bipartisan organization. They set the rules and the respective Campaigns agree or not.

Of course he can instruct his Campaign not to agree to any new rules, which I assume he will do.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 01/10/2020 23:28

Don't agree to the rules, you aren't welcome to take part.

And it is made clear who chickened out.

AcrossthePond55 · 02/10/2020 02:58

Damn straight!

And now Donnie's braying that Biden is 'refusing' to debate him further. As someone said on our threads, when Scrotus accuses someone of something, you can be sure it's because he's doing it himself!

HoldMyLobster · 02/10/2020 04:56

Trump and Melania quarantining since Hope Hicks tested positive having flown with them on Tues.

Maybe wearing masks WOULD have been a good idea.

nachthexe · 02/10/2020 05:18

Don’t believe it for a minute. I assume they’ve paid wotserchops to pretend to be positive so he can hide for two weeks, not get his arse kicked, and hope to get some kudos for being a brave little soldier.

lionheart · 02/10/2020 06:22

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump

'Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!'

BruceAndNosh · 02/10/2020 06:42

That's suspiciously convenient.
I can't see how POTUS and FLOTUS could have infected each other since they never touch.
Also the entire Trump family were together Tuesday evening... Should they all be locked away?

Oh oh oh, can we start chanting "he's locked up" now?
He can still do the debate by Zoom.
With the mute button.

Facelikearustytractor · 02/10/2020 06:49

I see Trump has now tested positive. Hmm what a convenient time.

I bet it won't keep him from being a spud brain on Twitter though. The evil plan may still backfire.

It looks really desperate doesn't it?

BruceAndNosh · 02/10/2020 06:50

If he's REALLY got it, I'm sorry to say I hope he gets very very ill. He bloody deserves to.

However since I think this is a "strategic" case of Covid-19, he'll hide away a bit, phone Fox and Friends every morning and emerge in a couple of weeks (which he spent at a spa) looking fresh and well and proclaim "covid is just having the sniffles"

boatyardblues · 02/10/2020 06:52

I’m doubtful too, though part of me wants it to be true and for him to get it so badly he has to pull out of the race. Then I remember Pence is veep... 😞

BruceAndNosh · 02/10/2020 07:07

Trump should issue an apology to all those people who attended Thursday's mask less fundraiser.
(note it will be really easy to get a tee time at Bedminster Golf club for the next 2 weeks...)

Facelikearustytractor · 02/10/2020 07:09

All of the tin hat wearing conspiracy theorists will now be quarantining lizards since the virus has now mutated to infect other species. Grin

Pence is as far right as Trump but he's such a personality vacuum that he wouldn't raise the same voting response
CaveMum · 02/10/2020 07:10

It says everything about the man that nearly every response I’ve seen to the news he has Covid is that he’s faking it either for sympathy or to get out of the next debate.

A Zoom debate would be a great idea - easy to mute the microphones!

BruceAndNosh · 02/10/2020 07:12

How will Biden react to this?
Obviously he will have to send wishes to a speedy recovery, but it will be very difficult to interviewed by CBS while doing a happy dance and blowing party poppers

BruceAndNosh · 02/10/2020 07:13

It's just a ploy to make us believe he's actually human and has blood in his veins

FrankieStein402 · 02/10/2020 07:14

How long is quarantine in the US?
Presumably two weeks means he misses a rally or two?

Given its been found early I assume he'll have been given remdesivir/whatever so is much more likely to do better than the average US 70yr old - does he then say china has targeted him and launch some kind of offensive, giving him a rationale to delay the election? (really hope that is a wild flight of fancy)

But I guess we will get shots of the evangelical base praying for him and the proud boys ranting against the Chyna virus.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 02/10/2020 07:25

I think it's fair to say that I don't wish him well and my hopes and prayers are directed in a slightly different direction.

BruceAndNosh · 02/10/2020 07:28

There's some implication in the media that Hope Hicks got positive result on Wednesday. Yet Trump still attended fundraiser on Thursday.
White House needs to clarify the time line.

From the Washington Post:

An aide who saw Trump late Thursday said he seemed normal and did not show any symptoms, though he was aware of Hicks and her condition. Hicks is showing symptoms, officials said. Aides said all of his political events will be cancelled for the foreseeable future.
After White House officials learned of Hicks’ symptoms, Trump and his entourage flew to New Jersey, where he attended a fundraiser and delivered a speech. Trump was in close contact with dozens of other people, including campaign supporters at a roundtable event.
