Trump used manipulation and race-baiting four years ago. He’s at it again. We are weary and worried but we shall persist.

They didn't keep the flags at half staff for McCain until their failure to do so had been noticed, and commented on adversely. I noticed that at the time and thought how damn' petty it was, and how damn' typical.

www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-orders-flags-flown-at-half-staff-until-mccain-burial

"The White House flags had been lowered Sunday, the day after the Arizona Republican succumbed to brain cancer at the age of 81. However, they were back to full height on Monday, breaking with tradition."

Trump WH press conference at 5pm EDT. Expect bigly denials and faux outrage.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 04/09/2020 21:42

And apparently even Fox News is confirming the reporting in The Atlantic that Trump thinks American troops who made the greatest sacrifice a patriot can make are "losers" and "suckers." 👀

Fuck, he'll just walk up to the podium and rant. Then he'll probably say that Biden hates the military and is 'a disgrace'. After that he'll throw out another bullshit 'miracle cure' for Covid.

I wish to God that the media would tape his 'press conferences' and then edit them for fact-checking and show only what is proven true and/or what they feel is an actual threat to the Country, plus the Q&As (if any). The rest of it is just impossible to sit through.

PhoebeSnow · 04/09/2020 22:04

How could Trump even stand as a candidate being a bankrupt person, more than once ? I found that very surprising, please could someone who knows tell me how that was allowed.
( As far as I know our policemen in the UK have to leave the service if they declared bankruptcy)

Rattled
indeedy, she doth protest waaaay too much
(thus drawing more energy and attention to the story such that it's grown it's own pair of legs and donnie will never catch it:) )

Based on that picture of McNinny and her 'magic signs', you know this means the Atlantic article is true.

So per the NYT article, Scrotus is going to gallop in and 'save' the S&S, is he? Methinks I smell a setup from the get go.

PerkingFaintly · 04/09/2020 23:10

Yip, that's the one Across.

This tweet nailed it back in 2018:

Trump drowns a puppy, pulls it out of the water at the last moment

Trump: "Not even Lincoln saved a puppy."

Liberals/Media: "You tried to drown it."

Hannity: "The fake news media won't even let Trump save a puppy without attacking him."

MAGA: "Why do liberals hate puppies?"

The moment I saw that he was now galloping to the rescue of the paper I realised it was the good old "Look! I saved you from the peril I put you into!" ploy.

Glad he did it sharpish; so much more satisfactory convincing that way.

Perking thinking of your puppy analogy... this is one of my favourite gifs about Trump.
It really sums up everything for me!

Anyone else wonders about the Venn diagram of those 10 on the record sources and the 4 anonymous sources? Grin
I suspect the smaller circle is completely inside the larger circle. Wink

Roussette · 05/09/2020 08:17

Indeed Lweji

And now we have a take off of McNinny....

TheClaws · 05/09/2020 08:19

Thanks for the shiny new thread, NorthWest.

When I heard about the Atlantic story, I didn't doubt it for a moment. I probably should have, and I because I felt a little guilty for automatically believing a story with anonymous sources, I did some due diligence and researched. (Looking at various opinions across the spectrum, really, as the facts can't quite be confirmed.) I'm not sure why I bothered, as those opinions just solidified the arrogant, shallow character of Trump - one who would easily say injured soldiers are losers.

Roussette · 05/09/2020 08:54

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/sep/04/trump-democracy-voting-process-elected

'This is not a normal election. I don’t say that because it is now clear that, against some stiff competition, Donald Trump is the most repellent individual ever to have sought, let alone won, the presidency of the United States. The latest proof comes in a quadruple-sourced account of Trump describing US troops who died for their country as “losers” and “suckers”, and demanding that a military parade exclude wounded veterans, lest spectators glimpse an amputee. “Nobody wants to see that,” he said.

Consider all that Trump has been willing to do already. Imagine what he would do if he received the mandate of re-election. Except there’s no need to imagine it. Trump’s contempt for democracy is in plain sight'

Roussette · 05/09/2020 09:05

Worth a read, a thread unrolled from Capt. Sully

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1301998157404962823.html

He pulls no punches in speaking out.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 05/09/2020 09:34

Saw the questions to Trump after his usual rant Press conference (The reporters weren't very forceful as per) and it seemed like Trump either misheard or misinterpreted one question about the Atlantic article. He didn't let the reporter finish his question about Gen Kelly not speaking out. Instead Trump interrupted and launched into an insulting attack on Kelly saying he was useless in the WH job and wasn't able to keep up/hack it and basically admitted that Kelly was probably one of the unnamed sources for the Atlanticreort. So he denied and confirmed the report at the same time. Classic Trump.

So the bigly brave guy who doesn't disrespect the military disrespects a 4-star general. (And Kelly did go to the WWII cemetery in the rain and fog unlike the Whiner-in-Chief who couldn't find his rain bonnet)
