To want to know when we can stop wearing face masks?

That's about the size of it. I loathe the bastarding things for every possible reason. Obviously I have to wear them because I don't have a reason not to (I could perfectly easily pretend, in order to obtain exemption, though this would seem unfair on the people who genuinely can't wear them). But AIBU to want to know when we will be allowed to stop with this nonsense? Does the R rate have to reach a certain target? Does there have to be a vaccination? WTF will make a difference? Why has nobody given us any indication?

It's a terrible precedent: any ridiculous nonsense could be decreed by the government, with no exit strategy, and we would just have to go along with it. It is almost unbelievable.

I enjoy it so much I might keep wearing one forever just for laughs.

Lots of us hate them but I see no point in moaning, comparing it to a communist regime or demanding a timescale.

Because this is new to all of us and to the government, health advisors and everyone else trying to help us get through this pandemic.

OP are you one of those QAnon types who thinks covid is a government conspiracy? If not I don’t see how you could expect the government to know how long we will need to wear masks. We have never been through something like this before. There are a thousand experts saying a thousand different things. Nobody knows for sure what is going to happen and when not even you .

I think face coverings are here to stay. Even if the day comes when they aren't mandatory anymore, I think people will still choose to carry on wearing them.

YABU. It's a light mask for goodness sake, not a ball and chain or a straitjacket. If there was the tiniest shred of evidence that hooping round Tesco on one leg while singing the national anthem would have a tiny chance of saving someone else from sickness or possible death then I'd do it. Don't be so selfish.

Also OP have you considered one of those transparent face shields? Many people who can’t tolerate masks get on well with the fave shields.

I get that they are a pain. I'm not vulnerable but half my family are and I 'd rather wear one than arrange a funeral.
No one know what the long term effects of it are, see the BBC documentary about it last week, so I'm happy to be the only one in a supermarket to protect those who need it.

They reduce the risk of transmission by 70-80% and it's not the government saying that. I really don't see why they're considered such an imposition if you don't have a health concern.

I suspect we'll carry on wearing them as they probably help to reduce transmission of other illnesses too.

There are too many morons not wearing masks so probably a long time yet (yes, yes some people can't but a very large number are just selfish twats). We would probably be able to get rid of them quicker if all the people that could wear them wore them, and if everyone actually wore them correctly.

It is nonsense, people are constantly touching their faces, taking masks out of their back pockets, handbags, off their car mirrors etc, to wear so I can't see how that is in any way hygenic or helpful. Half the people in the same shop as me today weren't wearing them and loads of people had their noses sticking out.

Just because people don't wear them properly does not negate the usefulness of masks when worn properly. Your point argues for better use for masks, not for getting rid of them.

OP I kind of get you. I’m not exempt but within a few minutes of wearing any of the dozens I’ve tried I find myself fighting a panic attack. A true sense of not being able to breath no matter what I do. I can’t get out fast enough. I never thought they’d bother me and I’m surprised & gutted that they do tbh - and how much they do.

I think having an end date makes things easier to stomach somehow. Like there’s a finish line to aim for, knowing it’s not forever. Sadly I understand it’s not possible to know what this virus will do so no end date can be given.

I'm assuming you work in a role where you have to wear one the whole day?

Otherwise it's not that big a deal. My 3.5 yr old can cope with wearing one in the supermarket.

You can wear them as long as you please, I'll be retiring mine as soon as they are no longer compulsory.
