To want to know when we can stop wearing face masks?

ihatefacemasks · 12/08/2020 21:30

That's about the size of it. I loathe the bastarding things for every possible reason. Obviously I have to wear them because I don't have a reason not to (I could perfectly easily pretend, in order to obtain exemption, though this would seem unfair on the people who genuinely can't wear them). But AIBU to want to know when we will be allowed to stop with this nonsense? Does the R rate have to reach a certain target? Does there have to be a vaccination? WTF will make a difference? Why has nobody given us any indication?

Given France has just upped the face mask fiasco so you have to use surgical masks of a certain type on public transport and are not allowed to use reusable ones I have a feeling it's going to get worse before it gets better! The amout of waste being created by these disposable masks is horrendous and we will look back on it with shame.

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 12/08/2020 22:06

I should imagine it's very uncomfortable buying groceries while attached to a ventilator. I don't think it's a trend that will catch on somehow.

😂 😂 😂

Theworldisfullofgs · 12/08/2020 22:07

To be completely brutal, having talked yo my friend tonight who has lung issues long term from covid and waiting gor A level results...not yo mention the self inflicted wound of brexit on top of the now recession and impact on my work...
I have run out of patience with people moaning about having to wear a bit of cloth some of the time.

Yeah, it's amazing how MN's vehement climate change posters changed tack as soon as Covid showed up.

Emeraldshamrock · 12/08/2020 22:07

Forever.
Considering some countries are wearing masks since SARs in 2003.

Guavaf1sh · 12/08/2020 22:07

I’m with you OP

BogRollBOGOF · 12/08/2020 22:09

I think it is reasonable to want to know an end point of these temporary measures. Either as a point of time or an outcome.

For many people they are far more than an uncomfortable inconvenience and are a major source of mental or physical discomfort, exacerbated by the fear of not conforming because of the shitty, judgemental and often disablist attitudes of too many sanctimonious members of society.

dwiz8 · 12/08/2020 22:09

We won't know until 2 days before the rules change no doubt. The government are running a circus not a country. Chopping and changing guidance willy billy

Figgygal · 12/08/2020 22:09

Get used to it going to be months yet

eurochick · 12/08/2020 22:09

Why so much hostility? It's not unreasonable to discuss what the end point might be! Is everyone overheating into tetchiness on here tonight?

cassgate · 12/08/2020 22:10

I would like to know too. I will wear one if I really have to but there are few places that I consider that I really have to go to make me. I went to the hairdressers today, I considered cancelling but didn’t. It was awful won’t be doing it again in a hurry. Got the train back home. Not one person in the carriage I was in was wearing one so I took it off. Bliss.

I think the waste will level itself out considering lots of people are still sticking to the rules, many are in isolation.
It doesn't excuse people throwing their used masks on the ground humans the dirtiest animals on the planet.

netflixismysidehustle · 12/08/2020 22:13

The government won't have a clue. They could u-turn in 3 days or get rid of them in 3 years.

PanamaPattie · 12/08/2020 22:14

Covid 19 will be around forever in some form as it will mutate and thrive by moving from one living host to another. We can stop wearing them when everyone has either had the virus and survived or has had an effective vaccine. I would say another four years.

I read the op as being churlish and whinging about a small inconvenience and expecting some sort of timetable like a child. I would imagine the posts you consider ‘tetchy’ might be from those who have lost someone dear to them due to coronavirus possibly?
Livelovebehappy · 12/08/2020 22:15

Most people never even started wearing them.

TheFaerieQueene · 12/08/2020 22:15

OP do you think they are nonsense if you have surgery?

I'm surprised that there's been no campaign showing how much damage disposable gloves do to wildlife. The amount of people not disposing of them properly is disgusting

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 12/08/2020 22:16

I'm in Italy and mask wearing has been slowly but surely being relaxed since May. So, they were mandatory for about 3 months...now most shops still insist on them but not all.
However, like many countries, case numbers are on the rise, about 300 new cases nationally this week (almost all coming from abroad) so we're envisaging tightening up again any time now.
It's going to be a while yet, that's for sure.
The papery surgical ones are much more comfortable I find.

goatley · 12/08/2020 22:17

YANBU to want to know OP.

I hate wearing a face covering so am looking forward to the time when we're done with them.

Its NOT the future and it's not the new normal.

BananaPop2020 · 12/08/2020 22:17

@ihatefacemasks, I completely get you. It seems you can’t even voice a contrary opinion on the bloody things without being branded selfish, thoughtless or worse. I cannot stand the sanctimonious, self appointed mask Police.

byvirtue · 12/08/2020 22:18

I agree OP. I checked the stats for cases in my area since the end of July and there has been 1 case, 1 case!!! The risk of catching Covid is so low.

Why can’t it be applied by area eg, rolling average of 30 cases (or other arbitrary figure) wear a mask, under 5 masks are optional etc.

I would love some common sense applied to mask wearing other than the general assumption that EVERYONE has Covid when the facts are in some area a tiny number of people have it.

coronavirus.data.gov.uk/cases? You can select your area then select data to see daily cases.

nasiisthebest · 12/08/2020 22:19

When the pandemic is over.

This could take longer than you think due to all the people who think that vaccines are unsafe or think that having a virus once means that they are immune forever.

anon5000 · 12/08/2020 22:20

Soon I hope, they get on my nerves. MN love the bloody things though.

Intruiged · 12/08/2020 22:21
