To want to know when we can stop wearing face masks?

That's about the size of it. I loathe the bastarding things for every possible reason. Obviously I have to wear them because I don't have a reason not to (I could perfectly easily pretend, in order to obtain exemption, though this would seem unfair on the people who genuinely can't wear them). But AIBU to want to know when we will be allowed to stop with this nonsense? Does the R rate have to reach a certain target? Does there have to be a vaccination? WTF will make a difference? Why has nobody given us any indication?

@yawnsvillex. Yep same as there are now more car accidents and deaths since wearing seat belts was made compulsory.

Are you seriously trying to compare a cloth over your face to a seat belt? 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Lavanderrose · 11/10/2020 01:07

I hate seeing them littered in the street and contribute to our environment problem. But if it helps to bring the infection rate under the control then it’s likely we’ll be wearing for months.
I wonder if the government will make them free for certain people as they are not cheap if your not using a fabric one.

yawnsvillex · 11/10/2020 01:08

Wasn't me @lotsagossip it was @MJMG2015

How on earth can you compare a piece of cloth badly worn over your mouth to a heavily tested seat belt? @MJMG2015

Rosebel · 11/10/2020 01:18

I think there is talk about making them free for over 60s and vulnerable people but don't think it's actually come in to force yet.
Believe tighter restrictions and increased mask wearing rules are on the way so should be in place just in time for half term 🙄

1forAll74 · 11/10/2020 01:19

You have to wear them until the word comes from above, until you can stop wearing them. We all might rather miss them when it's all over, I have seen some really nice trendy ones !! I don't really like them, as they smudge my lipstick !!

Lemonlady22 · 11/10/2020 01:19

I'm medically exempt from wearing one but I do wear one when out of the house. I've been shielded (due to illness) and don't want to catch covid or anything else for that matter. But then again according to people on here I should just stay at home indefinitely and let them just carry on as normal cos its people like me thats ruining the economy and I'm gonna die soon anywayConfused

PhilSwagielka · 11/10/2020 01:28

Lots of people don’t like wearing them but you know what? We suck it up.

turnitonagain · 11/10/2020 01:36

@yawnsvillex

Ever since we've been wearing masks cases have gone up
Except in school classrooms. Small oversight there.
Taikoo · 11/10/2020 02:01

Probably in 2025 or as late as 2027, the way things are going.

Canuckduck · 11/10/2020 02:02

I think until a vaccine is available for most of the population. So maybe another year.

Our kids have been wearing them all day at school since September and they don’t complain at all. If they can cope with it I guess we can too.

SnackRussell · 11/10/2020 09:45

I keep having panic attacks with mine. My last one was yesterday when I was trying to communicate via a Perspex screen and not able to hear a word from the cashier who was trying to spell out my details! I ended up in a sweaty heap.

They aren’t much fun but realistically I think she have many years of this ahead of us.

I think governments knew this, but could you imagine back in March if they had told us we had 5 years of this? Even 6 months would have made people kick off.

Anyway, get used to it I’d say.

Rosebel · 11/10/2020 13:16

My children don't wear them at school and they have had one case of Covid which makes you think.
Still we have to wear them and hope it works. I can see it being at least two years but think it might actually be forever, even if a vaccine comes out.

ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 11/10/2020 13:24

No one likes wearing them the less thought given to this the less it seems an issue (yes I have to wear one often at work too)

No one knows how long the virus shall be around and when there shall be a vaccine That creates more anxiety

But we just have to get on with it as so many life is difficult at present and for some people it’s absolutely awful

CounsellorTroi · 11/10/2020 13:52

I don't find them anything like as uncomfortable and sweaty now we are into autumn and it's cooler. In winter they will help keep your face warm!

Generallybewildered · 11/10/2020 14:09

I think they’re here to stay. Just like they are in the Far East after the SARS epidemic 2012. Not necessarily every village shop but city centres, public transport, crowded events, then yes.

Emmmie · 11/10/2020 14:32

YANBU OP. It is horrible and depressing. Masks are the reason I don’t want to go out anymore.
