Have name changed as this is outing (especially if anyone was also there).

Dh and I went for a break this weekend. Nice country hotel but not like that amazing.

Anyway - a family turned up via helicopter and parked it on the main lawn - so basically left it where everyone was sitting eating dinner/having drinks,

Unsurprisingly a parked helicopter gets quite a lot of attention from children playing on the lawn. As a small child with his mum went to peer into the window the husband came running across (a very long) lawn screaming “DONT TOUCHMY HELICOPTER” kid wasn’t touching it and do t park a fucking helicopter in a huge public space if you don’t want anyone looking at it.

First AIBU to think the guy was an absolute duck and secondly have you ever experienced anything as ridiculous.

Yes.

LaurieFairyCake · 12/08/2020 15:12

Very nouveau riche

Sexnotgender · 12/08/2020 15:13

Sound like some classy folk.

Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 15:13

@LaurieFairyCake agreed a battered Land Rover would have been far more appropriate.

Show off.

(Him not you)

I would be wanting to look at the helicopter so no wonder the kid was really interested

RaspberryToupee · 12/08/2020 15:15

By his reaction, I wouldn’t be surprised if he hired it. Like when you hire a super car for the weekend and drive everywhere in it. People who can afford super cars permanently, don’t tend to drive them to Tesco (or Waitrose).

I think you’re a little unreasonable to call him a duck. That’s mildly insulting to ducks. I think you’re not unreasonable to call him a dick Wink

Someone I went to school with had an older brother who rented a super car and came to pick them up. Obviously the students were fawning over it. But we were at a state school in a deprived town in the north, in a pretty dodgy area. Even as teenagers, everyone could work out if the family actually had that money, the other kid wouldn’t be at that school with us.

Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 15:15

@Sexnotgender this is what got me. I think possibly the most expensive room in the hotel would only have been say £600/night maybe a little more but we aren’t talking super posh.
It was bizarre! (But incredibly funny - very “FENTON!!!”

Definitely a dickhead.

OverTheRainbow88 · 12/08/2020 15:15

Haha
What a tool!

msflibble · 12/08/2020 15:15

Jesus christ. Don't touch my helicopter?
What a fucking idiot.

Heischeatingisnthe · 12/08/2020 15:15

Don’t touch my helicopter 😂🤣

CottonEyeJo · 12/08/2020 15:22

Oooo I could start a whole thread on rich wankiness that I've seen/experienced in my time (I'm a Nanny for UHNW families)

Off the top of my head

  • Flying in bottled water from Italy, rather than drinking from the filter tap or the local bottled water. And I quote "why else have a private jet?"

One Dad, loudly and making eye contact with as many people as he could, saying "Don't worry, this is just a pit stop - we wouldn't dream of actually staying* in this town

  • McDonald's? Isn't that where the poor people eat?
SparklesAllOver · 12/08/2020 15:24

We were away at a hotel last week and saw a helicopter on the front lawn - was it Eastwell, OP?

Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 15:25

@CottonEyeJo oh god how the other half live! The thing is there’s no pleasure in any of those things. Like helicopter man parking up on a packed terrace and then “guarding” the fucking chopper - can’t exactly be a relaxing evening.

OP posts:
Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 15:26

@SparklesAllOver funny enough that’s where we were due to go - but no it was Tylney Hall (glad I name changed).

OP posts:
Gobbycop · 12/08/2020 15:28

Don't touch my chopper, haha what a bell.

SparklesAllOver · 12/08/2020 15:31

Ooh, will look up Tylney, Eastwell is lovely, food divine but shame about the helicopter!

Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 15:34

@SparklesAllOver honestly I’d give it a miss - grounds etc beautiful but right now they aren’t coping very well service wise but would likely be lovely in the winter or next summer

Annonymiss123 · 12/08/2020 15:39

Definitely a rental! Grin

ODFOkaren · 12/08/2020 15:43

Omg.

I Want a helicopter.

I would be such a wanker. It would be brilliant.

DowntonCrabby · 12/08/2020 15:43

“Don’t touch my helicopter” Grin that’s amazing, was everyone taking the absolute piss?

SimonJT · 12/08/2020 15:46

Someone I studied with at university has a helicopter, he couldn’t be more of a twat.

Oddly enough I have two friends with light aircraft, both lovely and completely normal.

Lsquiggles · 12/08/2020 15:47

What did they think a child was going to do by touching his helicopter Grin

SparklesAllOver · 12/08/2020 15:49

Getoffmyhelicopter we've been to Eastwell a few times and although grounds need attention, staff are great and main restaurant a hit, although spa restaurant not great - food ok but guests sitting around in robes with their bits hanging out offputting!

UnfinishedSymphon · 12/08/2020 15:51

Our neighbour has a light aircraft, he uses it to go to Manchester United away matches, he's not dick about it though
