Have name changed as this is outing (especially if anyone was also there).

Dh and I went for a break this weekend. Nice country hotel but not like that amazing.

Anyway - a family turned up via helicopter and parked it on the main lawn - so basically left it where everyone was sitting eating dinner/having drinks,

Unsurprisingly a parked helicopter gets quite a lot of attention from children playing on the lawn. As a small child with his mum went to peer into the window the husband came running across (a very long) lawn screaming “DONT TOUCHMY HELICOPTER” kid wasn’t touching it and do t park a fucking helicopter in a huge public space if you don’t want anyone looking at it.

First AIBU to think the guy was an absolute duck and secondly have you ever experienced anything as ridiculous.

@monkeyonthetable @BlueSwathesChoose 😁

Crunchymum · 12/08/2020 16:53

Sorry should say - is £600 a night, not super posh?

RedSky100 · 12/08/2020 16:54

I feel sorry for the kid.

NellyJames · 12/08/2020 16:55

@nevermorelenore, you didn’t grow up in a village in Cheshire did you? Grin We see that shit all the time.

Justaboy · 12/08/2020 16:56

The two helicopter pilots i know would have been delighted to have shown the childern the aircraft and let them have a sit inside it !

There're not all like this wally!

Dorobie · 12/08/2020 16:57

Yeah @Wavescrashingonthebeach in the 25yrs my dh has been flying there has been 3 fatalities within his company. Loads more overall.

FarTooSkinny · 12/08/2020 16:58

Went to a classic car event last year. There was a classic Ford Mustang like the one from the the film Bullet with a dummy of Steve McQueen sat in it. Every time a child came within about 2 foot of it an angry man leapt from his deckchair shouting 'DON'T TOUCH DON'T TOUCH'

I did wonder why he brought it along to an event full of families if he didn't want anyone near it

Allergictoironing · 12/08/2020 16:59

Many many years ago, when even I was young, we had a house in the Stockbroker Belt south of London. Gardens about 1/3 to 1/2 an acre, set on a hillside.

NDN and HIS NDN had had a permanent falling out, so when NDN decided to land his helicopter in his back garden the other guy let blast with both barrels of his shotgun.

AntFarm · 12/08/2020 17:00

Nouveau riche behaviour is definitely good for the comedy value!

Someone that is a friend of a friend is very nouveau riche, along with her husband, and their behaviour, bragging and ostentatiousness makes me laugh.

She dresses as though Versace and Burberry have thrown up on her!

ShagMeRiggins · 12/08/2020 17:23

Were you anywhere near Eyam in the Peak District by any chance, OP? Similar helicopter ‘parking’ last weekend. Hmm

SoupDragon · 12/08/2020 17:24

Are you allowed to just land a helicopter just anywhere?

Elderflower14 · 12/08/2020 17:24

There are two things I would never get in by choice.. Hot Air Balloons and Helicopters...
A family friend was piloting a helicopter thirty years ago and it crashed killing him and the passengers... I found out before any of my family. I was on my break at work and it came up on Ceefax... I was in such a state that I couldn't ring my Mum.. My boss had to break the news and Mum had to ring my sister. It was her best friends husband.... A horrible day... 😔 😔 😔 😔 😔

I’m a Director on an airport board. Lots of joshing between staff with aviation/ Air Force backgrounds between those who prefer fixed wing and those who prefer whirlybirds.

user1471565182 · 12/08/2020 17:25

Maybe it was the ex king of Spain. He sounds a bit naff.

PhilCornwall1 · 12/08/2020 17:29

Look, I'm not a dick, I just didn't want that child touching my helicopter. I don't even allow my wife in it! The au pair on the other hand...... 😉

Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 17:29

@Crunchymum that’s probably the most expensive (I paid nowhere near that) but that would be for say a family suite. As in it’s not exactly the suite at the Dorchester!

Not. His. Helicopter. Id put £100 on that.

I would love a helicopter, absolutely love it - but would I bring it down on the lawn of a hotel (or anywhere) instead of a helipad? Not in a million years - thats every kind of dickheadish. The screaming at a child was the total icing on the cake. Beyonmd tacky

Bluntness100 · 12/08/2020 17:35

I have neighbours who have a helicopter, they would bring it down on a hotel lawn if cleared for landing there. They are both experienced pilots and often use it like a car for long or congested journeys.

I don’t get the point of if it’s his or not, unusual for someone to rent one and fly to a hotel, so more likely to be his in my opinion.

I’m not sure I believe he shouted what the op said he did though.

VettiyaIruken · 12/08/2020 17:35

Are you allowed to just park a helicopter wherever you like?

Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 17:36

@ShagMeRiggins no it was in Hampshire - interesting that there are a few people asking - this is obviously a “thing”.

OP posts:
DotForShort · 12/08/2020 17:38

That is hilarious. I wish I could have witnessed such a scene.

(Waiting for someone on this thread to defend the assclown. I have no doubt that someone will.)

Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 17:38

@Bluntness100 I imagine it will come up on the trip advisor reviews at some point (as it was just such a shocking “moment).
Tylney Hall - Hampshire

I do appreciate it sounds made up but it honest to goodness happened exactly as I explained it (and I wish to god I had filmed it as it was so comical).

@VettiyaIruken

Are you allowed to just park a helicopter wherever you like?
Yep, if the hotel gives permission apparently.
Getoffmyhelicopter · 12/08/2020 17:39

The wife did look like MNetter so am rather worried she’ll see this post

Am I the only one that would want to lick my finger and stand with it about 2mm away from said helicopter repeating “I’m not touching I’m not touching I’m not touching” until he explodes?

Oooh. I'm more 'eye contact, raised eyebrow, slow and deliberate placing on hand on the helicopter, drumming fingers' Grin
