I notice that neither McConnell nor Graham are speaking. In fact, where's Nunes and Gaeta? Where are any of the more outspoken Trump butt-buddies?

Have the rats started fleeing the floundering and sinking SS Trump?

Roussette · 20/08/2020 16:27

It does seem a bit light on his sycophants, I wonder why....

I did read he is going to speak every day. And Melania is speaking from the Rose Garden on Tuesday
And interesting that Carter, Obama and Clinton all spoke at the DNC, but Bush isn't speaking at the RNC... funny that...
Oh, and Bannon is giving his slot up to someone else Grin

That is naughty and hilarious!

I liked it. Can't find a real one with actual names, though.

There's an article about who won't be there, including a host of GOP names who might have been expected for any other President seeking re-election, at www.businessinsider.com/republican-speakers-2020-dnc-show-how-trump-has-upended-gop-2020-8?r=US&IR=T&op=1

TheNorthWestPawsage · 20/08/2020 17:06

I'm losing it now, for some reason this from the mcsweeneys link above really made me laugh:
10:10 pm
Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. release a million spiders into a nursing home.

Although I think it should just be Eric on his own.

PerkingFaintly · 20/08/2020 18:01

Dear me, I leave the internet unattended for a few hours, and come back and find Steve Bannon arrested.Grin

Taken aboard a 150-foot yacht off Connecticut, apparently. Sort of thing that could happen to any of us.Grin
twitter.com/PeterAlexander/status/1296473907822821379

And in a delicious twist (which I've checked out because it's just too fabulous to be true – and it's indeed in several reputable sources), the officers who arrested him were from... the US Postal Service.GrinGrin

Taken aboard a 150-foot yacht
does it seem 'maxwellian' to receive one's comeuppance in a yacht situation...

Heffalooomia · 20/08/2020 18:14

OMG that list of speakers
wtf, is that all he's got, they are the only ones who have his back
hahahahahahaha

lljkk · 20/08/2020 18:25

I can't get past the wonderful irony of USPS arresting Bannon.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/08/2020 19:17

And Trump says, "I haven't had any dealings with him for years." Yeah, right. Not since, oh, January 2018...

lljkk · 20/08/2020 19:35

Has someone written out the playbook and timings, there must be a Bayesian decision tree that will correctly predict the sequence and timing of Trump's responses:

Distance denial "Who is Steve Bannon? I dunno that guy."

Modified distance denial "I do know Steve Bannon. But haven't had to deal with him in a long time"

Distance denial with defence "I do know Steve Bannon. He's a very fine person. But haven't had to deal with him in a long time"

Don't like it "It's a shame this happened."

Don't like it and it's an attack on Trump: "Well this is just a hoax, you know. it's a disgrace."

Identify the true enemy "All those federal agencies being involved in his prosecution are proof that the deep state is corrupt and out to get the Donald."

Hype up the base by discrediting law enforcement "His prosecution is a disgrace!"

-> move to commute sentence or pardon or some such.

And in a delicious twist (which I've checked out because it's just too fabulous to be true – and it's indeed in several reputable sources), the officers who arrested him were from... the US Postal Service.

Perking that is bloody fabulous.

PerkingFaintly · 20/08/2020 19:41

Isn't it?Grin

I take my joy where I can find it these days, and this is making me happy.Smile

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 20/08/2020 19:43

A wire fraud?

TheNorthWestPawsage · 20/08/2020 20:09

More on Bannon's yacht.

This Is the Very Expensive Yacht Steve Bannon Got Arrested On
It reportedly belongs to a Chinese fugitive.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 20/08/2020 20:15

And it also involves a 'who's who' of a few more Trump cronies fine people we'd like to see locked up.

Kris Kobach is the general counsel of the Build the Wall PAC that Steve Bannon was just arrested for being involved in as chairman. The advisory board includes Erik Prince, former CO congressman Tom Tancredo, Sheriff Dave Clarke and former pitcher Curt Schilling.

The only way this could be more perfect is if somehow Brett Kavanaugh, George Zimmerman, and Ken Paxton were all somehow involved too.

GuyFawkesDay · 20/08/2020 20:22

I shouldn't, but the schadenfreude is starting to taste delicious.

Cy Vance has also won the latest round of appeals re: Trump turning over his tax records.

Lweji · 20/08/2020 20:43

Bannon 🤣🤣🤣

Minimammoth · 20/08/2020 21:36

I am releasing my inner gloat

Lweji · 20/08/2020 21:36

Will we get to see the infamous tax returns before this election?

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/aug/20/donald-trump-tax-returns-federal-judge-manhattan-da

AcrossthePond55 · 20/08/2020 21:41

The USPS personnel would be special agents of the office of the USPS Inspector General. The OIG is in charge of all mail fraud/'use of mail system' to collect money cases so I'm not surprised they were the arresting officers. If one teeny piece of mail from that Build the Wall organization went through the US mail, they would have been involved with the investigation. Once the investigation was complete it would have been turned over to the US Attorney's office.

When I did did fraud investigations at my former agency our own agents were the ones to go out for the arrest. Most US Govt agencies have an Inspector General's office and those offices all have sworn law enforcement agents.

AcrossthePond55 · 20/08/2020 21:50

Lweji I think that case is going to drag on for years.

The problem is that a defense can have 20 'reasons' a subpoena request is invalid. And generally speaking they only have to file them one at a time. So they file, lose, then fight it to the SCOTUS and lose. Then they file the 2nd reason and it starts all over again. I'm sure Scrotus' legal team has a pocketful of 'reasons' just waiting and he intends to drag this case out until he's been long gone from office and he thinks no one cares about his tax returns anymore.

lionheart · 20/08/2020 21:52

Bannon was supposed to speak at the GOP convention. Smile

lionheart · 20/08/2020 21:53

Bigly denials in relation to his connections to Bannon and that damn wall.
