TheSparklyPussycat
Do you think Trump and co realise that YMCA is a gay anthem?

My bet is not, because they are profoundly ignorant, but there are two other possibilities: they are trying to woo the gay vote, or someone who chose it is a deliberate saboteur. And I don't think even they can think they could woo the gay vote.

Lweji · 10/08/2020 11:33

I'd think saboteur if it had been when Pence left.

lionheart · 10/08/2020 11:50

Thanks for that link North.

I like to think the various agencies are prepared for the norms to be broken because that's the new norm.

TheSparklyPussycat · 10/08/2020 12:18

I was also surprised at them using "You can't always get what you want " - surely the antithesis of what Trump and his followers think.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/08/2020 16:03

Ah, but Sparkly, the operative word is 'you'. To them it means that YOU can't get what you want. But 'they' can.

BruceAndNosh · 10/08/2020 17:11

Apparently the unmasked crowd at his 2 press conferences at Bedminster Golf club weren't tested for Covid-19 beforehand.......
Is it bad to hope someone there was incubating the virus?

TheSparklyPussycat · 10/08/2020 17:23

If so, I am bad too.

Of course Trump was working while he was at the golf club, not only that but he plays golf quickly, I think he said recently.

It looked rather desperate, using his cronies (and other members) to cheer and applaud. If there were any Democrats there, I imagine they would join in so as not to be kicked out.

And yes, he did some work - made a few remarks and even wrote his name on some bits of paper

TheSparklyPussycat · 10/08/2020 17:31

Re songs.

I tuned into the Tulsa rally on Sat 20th June before it really started. One of the songs they played over the sound system was "Saturday night's alright for fighting" Shock The saboteur at work?

That article seems to pose the question why, but offers no possible answers. Although the idea of lauding the reporters who do call Trump out is a good one.

(I managed to put Frump instead of Trump. But it somehow seems to apply...)

Trump just started and then abruptly stopped his presser.

lionheart · 10/08/2020 22:59

I think he may have been called back to the bunker.

lionheart · 10/08/2020 23:17

Damn. He's returned.

TheSparklyPussycat · 11/08/2020 02:16

I heard him say this and could hardly believe my ears.

As reported by the Guardian:

Trump’s press conference has ended after a series of falsehoods and misleading claims. At one point he compared the Covid-19 crisis to the “the great pandemic” of 1917, saying it was a “terrible thing” that “probably ended the Second World War, all the soldiers were sick”.

The pandemic occurred in 1918, and World War II ended in 1945.

I hate to say this... but Trump, when he came back after the shooting incident, honestly was like he was getting off on the fact Secret Service shot someone. Kept talking about it. Not tragic at all to him, just one of his fantasies.

I'm glad to say that it was deemed so unimportant on the World Service this early morning that they were more interested in peat bogs and long-tailed tit behaviour than in Trump. Most refreshing.

I was thinking the same!
Lweji · 11/08/2020 09:10

Trump considers blocking US citizens with covid from entering the country.
I think this is a time for "don't test, won't find" Wink

More seriously, surely this must hurt his campaing...

I bet with no evidence whatsoever Trump will proclaim that this (unarmed) "shooter" was something to do with Antifa or the Portland protests.
Frankly, anyone who challenges an armed Secret Service person and then pretends to draw an imaginary weapon obviously is a threat to themselves and no-one else

Long tailed tit instead of orange skinned tit?
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 11/08/2020 10:14

Long tailed tit instead of orange skinned tit?
Heh! Yes.

"Reuters reported in May that US government officials were concerned that dual US-Mexico citizens might flee to the United States if the coronavirus outbreak in Mexico worsened, putting more stress on US hospitals."

And if the coronavirus outbreak in the US remains worse than it is in Mexico they might not.
