Ok, so I have been following SW for a week and have lost nothing! Exactly the same weight as last week. What am I doing wrong or does SW not suit everyone. Here is a typical SW day for me:-

Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in Frylight, tomatoes and mushrooms fried in Frylight, slice of wholemeal bread from a small loaf (HexB), cup of tea with milk from allowance (HexA)

Lunch: Batchelors Pasta N Sauce Cheese & Broccoli made with water (2.5 syns), jacket potato and a huge salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot, onions) balsamic vinegar

Dinner: Either syn free Quorn lasagne with HexA 30g cheddar cheese, salad and maybe syn free chips cooked in Airfryer or syn free Quorn curry and rice, or jacket potato with salad, or roast Quorn dinner with Frylight potatoes and loads of steamed vegetables

Snacks: Fruit, syn free homemade soup made with loads of speed veg, sometimes homemade crisps in AirFryer, Fage yoghurt with frozen fruit

Help! 😩

Sw never worked for me. It did for others. For me, it's because I need to consume less than 1000 cals a day to lose anything. Try following sw but count your cals. You'd be surprised. I had little self control so it simply didn't work for me. Eat as much chicken as you like etc etc just didn't suit me.fast 800, followed by 5/2 works for me.

Crunchymum · 07/07/2020 10:00

The more you eat, the more you lose is a load of crap.

You need to control calories, regardless of what you eat.

SW has pasta as a free food doesn't it? So if I had unlimited pasta every meal, I'd lose weight??? Aye.

SophieB100 · 07/07/2020 10:01

What's wrong with just eating less OP? Seriously?

We don't need free food, or allowed food or bloody 'syns'! Is an Air Fryer allowed? WTF?

Everything is allowed, if you limit amounts!

You don't need three huge meals a day, or big snacks in between.
No one does. Not even labourers who work 16 hours a day.

If you stop over-eating, you can eat a little of the 'unhealthy' stuff now and then, and reasonable amounts of healthy stuff.

And I hate SW - any plan that tells me I can't eat an avocado, but can eat limitless amounts of processed unhealthy crap can bog off!

Nutrition isn't high on their agenda - it's a business. It relies on members paying to be told what to eat. It wants them to regain weight, because membership is free if you maintain. Do you realise that over 80% of their members are those that have rejoined?

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 10:01

@fruitbrewhaha

OP, you need to learn to cook.

It's all processed packet food, so much pasta and potatoes.

Get some recipe books, the libraries are open again and have plenty of diet style books and look for clean eating, low sugar style recipes. Make food with lots of vegetables, (not potato) beans, lentils, etc.

I've made shepherd's pie, lasagne, curry, stir fry, egg muffins, all from scratch this past week.

Yes, I'm feeling pretty miserable too and my whole day revolves around food prepping. I'm sick of it.

I'm starting back on SW next week. I'm off work on Thursday, I'll be prepping a big batch of soup/chilli/curry/veggie burgers/pasta etc and that will be enough for dinners for at least two weeks. Then in 2 weeks time I'll do different things (will still have some of this batch left) so soon I'll have 7 or 8 different meals I can just pull from the freezer and heat up.

PasstheBucket89 · 07/07/2020 10:02

its interesting ive come across this thread, i have a lot to loose but ive lost 5lbs, ive not been particularly strict and with my hypermesis body magic is largely out of the question till i feel better.

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 10:03

@enjoyingscience

This gamification of eating (free foods/speed foods/syns) really disconnects people from reality. Spending time understanding when you’re eating in terms of what’s in it and what it does to your body would be time better spent than totting up syns.
Absolutely, I've been obsessed this last week.

You're eating way too much food. To lose weight I aim for 1200 calories a day.

That looks like this:

B: 5 strawberries, one banana, 30g muesli, 70g soy yoghurt - 350ish

L: small jacket potato (no oil used) with bean snack pot, 40g rocket, beetroot, balsamic dressing.

D: salad on half of plate, carbs a quarter of plate (whole grain where poss) and other item (curry, pasta sauce, Quorn) on other quarter.

I use a portion plate. This amount usually takes me to 1200. If I'm still hungry I have a pear (100) and I try to do a 350 c workout every two days minimum.

Losing weight isn't easy. You can't eat 2500 calories of food and eat until you're stuffed and expect to lose weight.

differentnameforthis · 07/07/2020 10:03

I lost a couple of stone on SW. Put it all back on once I stopped because it isn't a realistic plan, and doesn't teach you how to eat!

Recently I have lost 4stone just by changing my portion size and eating better, healthier non processed food and drinking mostly water, with a coffee (take-away) per day and a glass or 2 of wine a week.

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 10:03

@malificent7

Ive lost weight on slimming world. Ditch the pasta and other carbs up the vegetables and salad. I didnt like the happy clappy meetings though so gave up and piles back on.
But if I gave up the carbs, there wouldn't be much else to eat as I'm a veggie.

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 10:05

@UnfinishedSymphon

I'm sorry but surely common sense tells you that you can't eat unlimited pasta if you're on a diet!
But SW says you can.

Read your book, & don't guess your Syns. You’re eating too much.
I'm not guessing syns.

Exactly!

I hate all the SW bashing. You have to take some personal responsibility in how you use the 'rules'. I lost over 2 stone and have maintained it for 3 years.
I have never bought a SW ready meal or a muller light and I don't have use sweeteners in my cooking. It encouraged me to cook from scratch and replace chocolate and crisps with healthier snacks.

tabulahrasa · 07/07/2020 10:07

Again, no, they don’t say unlimited pasta...

It says repeatedly, in the pack, on the website... on every bit of information you’re given about how to follow it - replace 1/3 of your portion with the speed veg and pay attention to when you’re comfortably full, not over full.

If you’re not doing those parts, you’re not actually doing slimming world - it’s not a pick and mix where you only pay attention to the bits you fancy doing.

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 10:08

@Ploughingthrough

I don't know much about SW but you've only been doing it a week so I would have a bit more patience.

That said, your daily intake looks very high for someone trying to lose weight. Not sure how you would lose weight with all that food - 3 eggs for breakfast is a lot and you're eating other stuff with it too.

I keep a low weight by eating two healthy meals per day, only having fruit as a desert. I treat myself now and again, but it really is a treat and not something I have every day. I mean, do you need all those snacks? Is 3 normal sized meals not enough? You should lose weight if you eat ordinary sized meals and don't overload on portion sizes or carbs. You don't need to snack - have a cup of tea instead. You might need to accept feeling a bit hungry sometimes.

If only everyone had their shit together eh.
@UnfinishedSymphon blimey that's an amazing loss, congratulations! Seems like a decent amount of tasty food too.

I do find with SW as I follow a lot of the big insta accounts from when I used to follow the plan, is that, almost without exception a lot of the cover stars have put all of the weight back on. Not a great advert.
Thank you, it's been a hard slog but it needed doing for health reasons. I've maintained for around a year now and I'm not going to lie, I've fallen off the wagon a few times but I've managed to get straight back on it

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 10:08

@peanutsandpinenuts

Been doing Slimming World a while now and lost 1st 5lbs with it... I'd say it works but you need to keep in mind that you should be focusing on speed food at meal times a third of the plat should be speed. Also remember calories count too... it sounds like you are eating too many carbs perhaps. Pasta and a potato is a lot at lunch time... so maybe try replacing the pasta pot with chicken or fish?
I'm a veggie.

That’s a shitload of carbs and calories.

I’d gain eating that.

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 10:09

@slashlover

I'm vegetarian and lost 4 stones with SW. my food was something like

Breakfast - Omelette with 3 eggs and loads of speed veg and a sprinkling of cheese (part HEXA, used the rest for milk for coffee/tea)

Lunch - Homemade soup (speed veg and some beans/chickpeas for protein) with 2 slices of bread (HEXB)

Dinner - Jacket potato and veg/salad or homemade chilli or pasta with homemade sauce.

Supper - 2 slices of toast with a little peanut butter (syns)

Snacks - fruit/veg sticks with homemade humous

I felt stuffed after eating all that.

That sounds similar to what I have. I guess it doesn't work for everyone, but well done on losing 4 stone!
OP posts:
NorthernSpirit · 07/07/2020 10:10

You are eating to much.

I also started SW last week and lost 2LB (I had previously done it & lost a stone in 5 weeks).

Here’s my typical day:

Breakfast - 40g wholemeal porridge + skimmed milk & a few fresh raspberries

Lunch - Salad (no dressing) with tuna (in brine or spring water)

Dinner - one of the SW recipes (last night had pulled pork with a small portion of sweet potato wedges & green veg

Snacks - fresh fruit

The key is to eat freshly cooked meals, lots of fruit & veg, watch your portion size and change your eating habits.

slashlover · 07/07/2020 10:10

I've made shepherd's pie, lasagne, curry, stir fry, egg muffins, all from scratch this past week.

All from Quorn though. An inmportant part of the plan is a wide variety of foods.

But if I gave up the carbs, there wouldn't be much else to eat as I'm a veggie.

Replace your carbs with protein. Eggs, beans, lentils, nuts, tofu, quinoa, green vegetables. Do they still put the P next to high protein items in the free food products section of the book?

Yesmate · 07/07/2020 10:11

You can technically eat as much as you want but the key is to remember the add on of “until you are satisfied” When you are satisfied, full then stop eating. That’s far too much food in one day.
