Ok, so I have been following SW for a week and have lost nothing! Exactly the same weight as last week. What am I doing wrong or does SW not suit everyone. Here is a typical SW day for me:-

Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in Frylight, tomatoes and mushrooms fried in Frylight, slice of wholemeal bread from a small loaf (HexB), cup of tea with milk from allowance (HexA)

Lunch: Batchelors Pasta N Sauce Cheese & Broccoli made with water (2.5 syns), jacket potato and a huge salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot, onions) balsamic vinegar

Dinner: Either syn free Quorn lasagne with HexA 30g cheddar cheese, salad and maybe syn free chips cooked in Airfryer or syn free Quorn curry and rice, or jacket potato with salad, or roast Quorn dinner with Frylight potatoes and loads of steamed vegetables

Snacks: Fruit, syn free homemade soup made with loads of speed veg, sometimes homemade crisps in AirFryer, Fage yoghurt with frozen fruit

Help! 😩

That’s a huge amount of calories. If you’re having pasta and a jacket potato for lunch, as well as lasagne for tea, you don’t need soup as a snack in between!

Tot up how many calories you’ve eaten.

dudsville · 07/07/2020 08:16

Your breakfast sounds ok but your lunch and dinner could be a lot healthier. Are you counting calories? There's a website (tedd?) That helps you calculate what you need in terms of calories to maintain/gain/lose weight. Also I'm eating a lot of fiber daily. Finally, one week isn't anything. Keep going, but in a healthier way!

cherrypiepie · 07/07/2020 08:16

I did slimming world a few years ago and lost 2 stone and it does works if you stick to it but you do have to be reasonable with your portions and if ate as much as that I would be in a good comma all day.

It is essentially a healthy eating plan based on a low fat diet with lots of vegetables and little bread fat sugar.

It's quite boring and can't have a slice of toast etc. Without 'syning
'
It did work I fit in my wedding dress and felt good. Then I put it back on. I went back and it didn't work as I wasn't strict enough and it it is too hard to follow long term but I had. Ought I to the brand and the group. Lockdown forced a change

Now I do nutracheck calorie counting I am losing weight and is much more sustainable long term.

Lots of People on here are very anti-slimming world. As for only exercise working - I don't agree. 80% diet 20% exercise is my view. When I exercise I do feel better and have more momentum and want to eat healthier.

Georgielovespie · 07/07/2020 08:16

It is not a con, your portion sizes are way too big. Fact.

It forces you to focus on eating better choices of food. ie a bar of chocolate = horrific number of syns vs piece of fruit = free.

peachypetite · 07/07/2020 08:16

That sounds very carb heavy. I would suggest my fitness pal so you log your calories.

Patbutcherismyhero · 07/07/2020 08:16

SW works for me - I lost nearly 2 stone on it - but everyone is different. You might find that you have a big loss next week because that meal plan sounds exactly right for SW. I wouldn't give up yet.

Fatted · 07/07/2020 08:17

This does feel a lot like a SW bash/troll. I'm waiting on the 5million Muller lights they also ate that day. I'm genuinely puzzled by someone having pasta with a jacket potato

MogHog · 07/07/2020 08:17

You do look like you are eating a lot, especially carbs
Make sure you fill your plate with speed.

Typical day would be
2 poached eggs with mushrooms and tomatoes, spinach

Tuna salad for dinner

Chicken/fish with JP/rice steamed veg or salad

Try cutting back on the potatoes, rice, pasta etc at every meal

lastqueenofscotland · 07/07/2020 08:18

I’m a big eater and that is a huge amount of of food.

MrsEvil · 07/07/2020 08:18

I have done slimming world for 9 months and lost 4 stone. Make sure all your meals is 1/3 speed. Watch carbs and syn crisps made in the air fryer as they are known as a tweek (syn them like regular crisps). Drink plenty of water exercise also. Fill up on speed first. I snack on pink lady apples and crab sticks, and go for low fat, high protein food. I'm under no illusion that I have to eat like this for life not just for now. It took me a few weeks to get used to it. Do your food diarys and log everything don't go over your syns. I have had my full 15 a day since I started but watch portion control. My first week I lost 1/2 a lb but the second week was so much better. Good luck

Metallicalover · 07/07/2020 08:18

I find that Slimming world is very high in carbs! Lasagne, salad and chips? Pasta and a jacket potato?
I wouldn't have these normally I have either or.
So lasagne and salad and a jacket potato with a protein filling and salad.
Maybe track it on the MyFitnessPal app as well and that will show your calorie intake and it may help tweak the slimming world diet by reducing portions x

MrsPinkCock · 07/07/2020 08:19

Slimming world works for some people if they are able to control their own portion size and eat sensibly. Not everyone has the ability to do that!

As a PP said, you need a calorie deficit to lose weight. If I ate 2000 calories worth of fruit and salad a day and nothing else, i would gain weight. If I ate 1000 worth of chocolate a day and nothing else, I’d lose weight (but be very unhealthy).

If I ate what you listed there, I wouldn’t lose weight either - it’s too much food and wouldn’t put me in a deficit. SW works on the principle of very low fat food to fill you up and it doesn’t work unless you accidentally end up in a deficit.

Exercise and eating less is key. 10,000 steps a day will get you around 400 calories more than a totally sedentary day for example (depending on your size).

Do me a favour - download MyFitnessPal. Weigh everything that goes in your mouth including milk, drinks, etc as calories all add up. See how much you’re eating and whether it’s 500 more than a realistic weight loss calorie goal. If it is then there’s your answer.

BwanaMakubwa · 07/07/2020 08:20

I did SW for years - like 20 years, on and off.

It does work short term, though my main issues with it are that it makes no effort to teach portion control or hunger signals, and now I look at the foods you are eating I want to vomit at the fake foods - fry light, dried pasta in sauce. I think you are eating a huge amount though - 3 eggs, and toast? Pasta and potato? Why?

I now eat real food including cream and butter and avocadoes, but avoid carbs, and try portion control. I'm still fat but the food tastes much better Smile

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 08:21

So it isn't free food then? I'm an all or nothing kinda gal and can eat for England. To tell me I can eat as much of certain foods that I want is false advertising. I think I'm going to calorie count from now on. Exercise alone doesn't make you lose weight, like a previous poster said, it just makes you strong, it's a calorie deficit that's the key.

I'm not bashing SW at all, a lot of my friends rave about it, but I need more restrictions.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 07/07/2020 08:22

That's a huge amount of food! I am losing weight and eat half that. Ditch Slimming World, download My Fitness Pal and keep track of absolutely everything you eat and drink.

Psychoseverywhere · 07/07/2020 08:23

I personally think SW is a con and definitely an MLM. Any consultants I have seen are grossly overweight so I am not sure how they have followers. The recipes are full of stock cubes and salt and far too many carbs in there. The ONLY effective way to lose weight and maintain it cos just losing it is not the hard part, keeping it off is, is quite simple :Eat less, Move more.

reenon · 07/07/2020 08:25

You have to eat less calories to lose weight.

Add all that up into myfitnesspal and see how many calories you are eating

Then check out team rh

AliasGrape · 07/07/2020 08:25

SW has worked really well for me in the past but you need to stop thinking of free food as ‘I can eat as much as this as physically possible’. I think eating piles of food used to work a bit better when they were the old style red and green days, but not now you get both in every meal.

3 eggs plus toast plus pasta and jacket potato at lunch plus whatever dinner plus snacks - that’s a huge amount of food. They’re pretty clear now that ‘free’ food is ‘free’ until you’re feeling full. That means slowing down, eating slowly and starting to recognise your body’s signals when you are getting full. There’s a page in your membership book that explains it - or there used to be. Also try looking online or buy the magazine for some sample meal plans so you get to see what a more effective amount of food would be - it’s still plenty honestly!

People get really arsey about slimming world and the amount of processed food etc, it’s probably not the healthiest eating plan in the world but I found it fairly realistic and certainly healthier than the lifestyle that got me overweight in the first place! Yeah there’s room for a few processed bits but they really do emphasise lean protein and fruit and veg. I still love some of their recipes - there’s an Italian chicken soup that is all entirely fresh food based and my friends and family would go nuts over when I made it. I’ve given up meat now so it’s not the same but I have adapted a veggie version.

MogHog · 07/07/2020 08:26

You can't honestly think you can eat a plateful of pasta and potatoes for every meal and think you will lose weight?

trixiebelden77 · 07/07/2020 08:26

Are you sure it says ‘no limits’?

Isn’t it about eating some things only until satisfied and most of your plate being vegies?

You’re basically binge eating at each meal.

Glendaruel · 07/07/2020 08:26

I found sw really good and lost 1.5 stone, kept it off for couple years as it helped me change my eating habits rather than just diet. My portions had got quite big and were wrong things, so it helped me to refocus my eating. It took a bit to get used to. I didn't use a lot of the branded stuff but did buy a couple of their recipe books while I was there. Our group was really encouraging of trying different dishes, so lots of variety.

It's been a while since I was following, but your meals seem quite big. Worth having chat to your consultant with your food diary. Have you come across pinch of nom.

Themostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 07/07/2020 08:26

To give you an idea today I am having the following:

Breakfast - one soft boiled egg with two slices of wholemeal toast - 372 calories

Lunch - balsamic shallots with goats cheese - 175 calories

Dinner - small portion of Lentil Ragu with whole-wheat spaghetti - 475 calories

That leaves me around 250 calories spare so might treat myself to a cornetto which is about 170 calories.

UltimateWednesday · 07/07/2020 08:26

It works brilliantly as a business model. Enough people lose weight that the photos are out there to draw people in because "it works" then they put it back on and sign up again because "it worked" last time.

There's no point in a slimming business that works once and for all and gets no repeat business....

BarbaraofSeville · 07/07/2020 08:27

But SW says you can eat as much free food as you like

No, they say eat until comfortably full, not stuffed beyond belief and a third of your plate must be speed foods (fruit or non starchy veg) so is it?

It does work if you are mindful or portions sizes and don't treat it as an open invitation to gorge all day long. Why don't your work out your TDEE (google it) and the calories for your typical day, to check that you have a deficit?

Also, weight loss is not linear. You might find that you lose several pounds next week. There are lots of reasons why what you weigh and how much body fat you are carrying compared to last week do not correlate - on a scientific accuracy basis, weighing yourself once a week tells you how much you weigh within a few pounds at best, it's not an absolute accurate number as factors such as state of hydration and what your digestive system is doing and where you are in your menstrual cycle can make your weight vary by a few pounds.

Fairybatman · 07/07/2020 08:27

Exactly as people say above you are eating too much to be in a calorie deficit.

It’s free food until you are satisfied not until you are stuffed.

Try 2 eggs for breakfast instead of 3 if you still feel hungry have a glass of water and if still hungry 15 minutes later have an apple.

If you are having a whole pack of pasta and sauce at lunch have just the salad and skip the potato.

It’s a good idea to track on my firness pal alongside until you get the idea of the portions you personally can eat and get a loss.
