About the CDC database and case reporting

www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/07/16/coronavirus-hospitalization-data-outcry/

"At least some state health departments that have been collecting data for their hospitals and sending it to Washington have already said the switch will make it impossible for them to continue, at least for now. The changed protocol includes a requirement that hospitals send several additional types of data that some state systems are not equipped to handle, state health officials said."

I do hope that the local Democrats didn't assume John Lewis would live forever, and had someone in mind to step up when he died. Or maybe even that he, who was a man of good sense who knew that he had cancer, might have suggested people capable of succeeding him. It would be something that wouldn't surprise me in him.

Roussette · 18/07/2020 15:55

Across I can imagine your upset, it brought a tear to my eye and only for the reason that whenever he spoke, I listened, he was a giant amongst men.

Roussette · 18/07/2020 15:55

A giant amongst men... from what I knew of him, I meant to say

Roussette · 18/07/2020 16:23

Across this is for you. Stephen Colbert and John Lewis.

Thanks Roussette and lion. Wonderful tributes from Barack and Stephen.

Asking, I hope you're right and Rep Lewis had spoken to the Dem Cmte and given them name(s) of people he felt would carry on his legacy.

As it stands Gov Kemp (Scrotus ass licker extraordinaire) can appoint a successor to serve out the term, which ends in Jan 2021 or he can leave the seat vacant citing the closeness of the upcoming election. Plus, leaving the seat vacant gives the Dems one less vote in the House for the time being.

I don't know if he's required to select a Democrat or if he can choose a successor from any party. If he can select anyone I assume he'll select the GOP candidate, Stanton-King, as it would probably give her exposure as well as the status of 'incumbent' for the November election. If he's required to select a Dem, chances are he'll leave the seat vacant for the opposite reason: to avoid giving exposure or the status of incumbent to a Dem.

You can be sure that Kemp will do whatever Scrotus tells him to do.

Roussette · 18/07/2020 19:33

And John Lewis crowd surfing after his appearance, just so lovely!

edition.cnn.com/videos/tv/2016/09/01/john-lewis-crowd-surfs-daily-hit-newday.cnn

PerkingFaintly · 18/07/2020 20:27

Oh my goodness! That has brought a tear to my eye in good way today, Rousette.

John Lewis, 76-year-old crowdsurfer! Yessss!

Roussette · 18/07/2020 20:30

I know! He had such a big smile on his face, and the audience were going to surf him in the most caring way.
When wonderful people like this go, it shows up the awful doesn't it...

TheSparklyPussycat · 18/07/2020 21:49

Just read this in The Guardian.

Donald Trump has broken his silence on the passing of John Lewis with a tweet.

“Saddened to hear the news of civil rights hero John Lewis passing,” he wrote. “Melania and I send our prayers to he and his family."

You what, Donald?

lionheart · 18/07/2020 22:02

He can't manage formal grammar.

lionheart · 18/07/2020 22:06

Anymore than he can manage human decency.

But that crowd-surfing... Smile

TheSparklyPussycat · 18/07/2020 22:31

Even if the grammar were correct, is it usual to send prayers to the deceased as well to as his family?

Roussette · 18/07/2020 22:52

The grammar is just awful and because I don't trust him, it just looks like an insult to me.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/07/2020 23:58

Well, at least this time he didn't send his 'warmest condolences' 🙄.

I'm beginning to think his grammatical errors are dog whistles saying "I mean the opposite".

But nah, he's just as ignorant and ungrammatical when he's bellowing his shit to the cult members.

AcrossthePond55 · 19/07/2020 01:21

Correcting my previous rant post......

"Unlike the US Senate, there is no provision in Georgia state law for the Governor to appoint an interim replacement for Members of Congress whose seats are vacated"

www.11alive.com/article/news/politics/replacing-lewis/85-a65fdde1-7d3f-4b34-a3d0-2d7bdc1cba31

So, the Dems have until Monday 4.30pm to find a candidate to replace Lewis in the November regular election for the new term beginning 1/2021. And Kemp has 10 days to set the date for a special election to complete Lewis' current term which ends when the new term begins next January.

Roussette · 19/07/2020 07:26

Am I right in saying John Lewis had been poorly? If so, I imagine he might be the sort of man to talk about what he thinks should happen should the unthinkable happen.

The Rolling Stones and now this..

Linkin Park...

Linkin Park did not and does not endorse Trump, nor authorize his organization to use any of our music. A cease and desist has been issued.

crosseyedMary · 19/07/2020 11:01

I think he is irritated that John Lewis is receiving praise and attention and the grammatical sloppiness is his petulant child-like retaliation
So thin skinned that he is jealous of any praise given to anyone else

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/07/2020 11:12

Roussette
Am I right in saying John Lewis had been poorly?

He died of cancer, so probably. That was why I said that I hoped he might have put forward some ideas about a successor, upthread.

("Or maybe even that he, who was a man of good sense who knew that he had cancer, might have suggested people capable of succeeding him. It would be something that wouldn't surprise me in him.")

Roussette · 19/07/2020 11:39

yes absolutely Asking saw you say that upthread and agree, but didn't know he had cancer. Such an awful disease but it does give you the chance to make plans. That sounds a bit crass, don't mean it to be, I'm thinking of my dear old Mum here

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2020/jul/19/donald-trump-presidential-election-joe-biden-coronavirus-pandemic

'Donald Trump has unified America. Against him'

This news piece is absolutely scathing...

AcrossthePond55 · 19/07/2020 13:14

Rep Lewis had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer some months ago.

lionheart · 19/07/2020 15:49

Trump's Chris Wallace interview on Fox is a bit of a mess. Smile
