Are expensive hair straighteners worth it?

Mine were about £30. I've never been very impressed with that but now that my hair is so much longer it's starting to get on my nerves. Are fancy straighteners really worth it?

GHD's! Had mine for 10 years and still love them

MrsPatrickDempsey · 09/06/2020 21:10

Has anyone got a pair of Dysons?

CoquettishIngenue · 09/06/2020 21:20

I went from GHD's to Cloud Nine but they broke after two years so I'm back to GHD's, but they seem to only last a couple of years now too.

I'm pretty sure my first ever pair are still going strong but I gave them to a friend 😫

BarbiesWorld · 09/06/2020 21:43

@MrsPatrickDempsey my mums arrived yesterday so she's going to facetime me when using them this week 😂 I'm dying to know if they're worth it because the hairdryer has been a game changer for me

OhioOhioOhio · 09/06/2020 21:47

Pp tell your mum to open her dysons. I hope that they are amazing for £400!!!

Cloud 9 here, bought to replace GHD & would never go back.

AllForAnEasyLife · 09/06/2020 21:52

I have the Dyson ones!

I also have cloud 9. GHD company was sold and the original owner set up cloud 9

OhioOhioOhio · 09/06/2020 22:14

Don't suppose anyone has a cloud 9 discount code?

@OhioOhioOhio

Don't suppose anyone has a cloud 9 discount code?
If you go on their website and sign up for emails you'll get a £5 discount.

I've really thick hair and recently updated from.ghds (I'd had for over 8 years and it was just taking longer and longer to do my hair) to cloud 9s after my hairdresser uses them. So fast to use (I have wide plate) and would recommend. Not that I've used them in about 3 months...

Sunsage · 10/06/2020 14:41

UN-PXDG-FMEX-1019

15% student discount with that code 🤫

SerenDippitty · 10/06/2020 14:48

My first, original GHDs lasted 12 years. I did consider trying another make but stuck with GHD in the end and perfectly happy that I did.

happymummy12345 · 10/06/2020 14:51

I have to say yes. I have long naturally curly hair that gets very frizzy. My GHD's work wonderfully. I'd never have anything but

happymummy12345 · 10/06/2020 14:54

I've had my current pair since 2013. They are the second pair. Can't remember the exact year I got my first pair, probably since late 2000's

CottonSock · 10/06/2020 15:04

Buy the best you can afford.
I tried cheap ones with food reviews and my hair was destroyed. Ghd gold for me.

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 10/06/2020 15:15

I've had a £8 pair of Nicky Clarke straightners for 10.5 years. My hair is nipple length. Should probably get some new ones but they still work very well?

tywysoges · 10/06/2020 15:18

I have the wide plate Cloud 9 and I love it. I have very curly hair. My hairdresser uses the original, thinner Cloud 9 and it seems to work just as well - but obvs my blow dry is not as good as theirs Grin

Schmoana · 10/06/2020 15:24

GHDs changed my life! Can get away without blow drying, just leave to dry naturally then straighten, which I didn’t used to be able to do. Saves me loads of time and effort . Cloud 9s now - just as fab.

Dyson are a rip off.

TooOldForSims · 10/06/2020 15:35

I have these ones. I have had them for about a year and they do the job.

But I've never tried any other brand and my hair is naturally pretty straight anyway, albeit not as straight as it used to be, hence the straightners Grin.

thesunwillout · 10/06/2020 15:43

I treated myself to ghds in January sales, really disappointing.
I've got very straight hair, so can't imagine them doing much to slightly curly hair.

SharkasticRhymes · 10/06/2020 16:48

My hair is nipple length

How long are your nipples?!?! Grin

funnelfanjo · 10/06/2020 16:54

Another vote for Cloud 9 - they deal well with my thick and frizzy hair.

Yep, they are worth every penny. My original GHDs are going strong from 2003!!!

I've also got Cloud 9s, brilliant.

Go for Cloud 9 as PP have stated history of them against original GHD.

Kjled · 10/06/2020 21:35

I have very thick hair and for me it doesn’t depend on the price but how hot they get. I had GHDs a few years ago but they reduced the heat on them so they don’t straighten my hair properly. The ones I have now are really good heat up to 220 only cost about £30.
