I am in need of films that will actually keep me engaged and take my mind off my life at the moment, nice rom coms don't cut it right now! So please send your list of weird/disturbing/unsettling films my way

Clockwork Orange, I know that is has been mentioned before but it was the violent craze that it started. The local scum in my home town, I do not live anymore thankfully, began dressing up as the central character Malcolm McDowell complete with bowler hat walking stick and a white shirt. There was an increased amount of violence in the area when that film was released. It was abhorrent to say the least.

Spillinteas · 30/05/2020 15:37

Oooooooh place marking

Thedot90 · 30/05/2020 15:39

Agree with jojo rabbit and for sama - some of the best films I’ve seen, and certainly not rom coms! Both very different though. The other one I’d add is nocturnal animals - beautifully shot (Tom ford directed it) and extremely unsettling - amy Adams is fabulous.

AliTheMinx · 30/05/2020 15:40

Downfall and Sylvia too

Blueuggboots · 30/05/2020 15:43

@MrsGrindah - yes, I did mean that!!! 🙈🙈🙈

The passion of jesus christ. The mel Gibson film.

Potatobug · 30/05/2020 15:48

So mainly it’s horror films. What did I expect?

Whiskeylover45 · 30/05/2020 15:48

Dogtooth

GizmosBandana · 30/05/2020 15:48

Eden Lake. The ending still makes me feel sick thinking about it and it's been years since I watched it.

Mrsmurrayposh · 30/05/2020 15:48

Dead Ringers with Jeremy Irons playing both leads. Gynecological tools involved. Grim, haunting.
Magic: ventiloquist dummy personality takover carry on. Ending stays with you forever.
80's shocker called Pin about grown up kids becoming obsessed with their dead fathers anatomical dummy. Extremely bizzare.
Huge yes to Funny Games and Hidden, both excellent.

FrenchieMum2Be · 30/05/2020 15:54

Great thread... My two are:
The Mist
Into the Wild
I found both endings haunting!

Lairymary · 30/05/2020 16:02

Deliverance really disturbed/ unsettled me (just one particular scene, I'm sure most will know what I'm talking about).
If you want something really "WTF", watch "The Greasy Strangler", when I watched it I couldn't decide if I should laugh, be horrified or be outraged that it was funded by the national lottery!

Cailleachian · 30/05/2020 16:03

Come and See.

A 1980s Russian film that follows a young boy fighting the Nazis in the early 1940s. Very, very disturbing horror film...because most of it actually happened.

Afishcallledbob · 30/05/2020 16:08

not sure why it bothered me so much but it's been playing on my mind ever since I rented it on amazon.

Afishcallledbob · 30/05/2020 16:09

The picture didn't work it was a film called Vivarium about a couple that get trapped in a new house on a suburban street.

marmite92 · 30/05/2020 16:10

Lots of films to keep me disturbed for a good while Grin
