Contagion

Kitsandkids · 30/05/2020 14:44

Us - about doppelgängers. I sometimes think about them all living out of sight and it freaks me right out!

Midsommar - about a group of college students who go to stay at a friend’s commune in his home country and what then happens to them all. I still can’t decide whether I liked the film or not, but it was thought provoking!

blue25 · 30/05/2020 14:45

Rosemary’s Baby
The Shining

Both very good books as well.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is an awful film (& book)

TheDogsMother · 30/05/2020 14:47

Awwlookatmybabyspider. It's actually the anticipation of the ankles scene as she slowly prepares for it. Also when he's trying to escape and you can see her car returning which has my heart pounding. Amazing actors and an amazing film.

Cherry321 · 30/05/2020 14:49

I’m glad other people have also mentioned Wolf Creek.

I turned it off and have never seen the ending.

Totally freaked me out. Shock

ilovecardigans · 30/05/2020 14:50

Wolf Creek was hands down the most terrifying film I have ever seen. I would never watch it again - once was enough.

icansmellburningleaves · 30/05/2020 14:51

Keeping Rosie with Maxine Peak.

Pickles89 · 30/05/2020 14:52

Dragonfly

Mycatsmellsbad · 30/05/2020 14:56

Old boy - the original not the English Language remake if you can put up with subtitles. The twist at the end made me feel physically sick.

MarshaBradyo · 30/05/2020 14:57

Eden Lake

Stayed with me for ages

gaggiagirl · 30/05/2020 14:57

Midsommar and hereditary. They are both SO unsettling and like pp said quite thought provoking.

gaggiagirl · 30/05/2020 14:58

Oh god yes Eden lake. I won't be able to watch that again. No way.

HighOnStilts · 30/05/2020 14:58

Cloverfield.. I don't know why but it gives me the fear. Only managed to watch it the once.

Flapjackninja · 30/05/2020 14:58

London to Brighton

middleager · 30/05/2020 14:59

@gaggiagirl

Oh god yes Eden lake. I won't be able to watch that again. No way.
Yy - and also to your other suggestions.
marmite92 · 30/05/2020 15:01

Oh yes watched Eden lake recently as I watched it when it first came out and remember being disturbed by it then but couldn't remember what happened, so horrible and made me feel angry. Haven't heard of half of these films so thank you all for the suggestions!

It took me a long time to get over one particular reminiscing scene in The Prince of Tides'.

Pulp fiction was also a movie I wished I didn't watch.

Fleamaker123 · 30/05/2020 15:04

Amityville Horror.. the scene where the father in the family wakes up every night, glances at his digital clock and sees 3.15am lit up...To this day if I wake in the night and see my digital clock I have a moment where I think please God don't let it be 3.15!

TitsInAbsentia · 30/05/2020 15:07

The Lodge

Giggorata · 30/05/2020 15:13

Johnny Gets His Gun. Admittedly, I was very stoned when I first saw it, but it disturbed me a great deal and stayed with me for years.

Fucket · 30/05/2020 15:18

DH and I watched an old film Morning Departure to take our minds off lockdown, thinking here’s a nice film with 2 good actors that’ll cheer us up (Richard Attenborough and John Mills). I think if you watch something like Schindlers List you know what to expect.

I have very bad asthma and have experienced the inability to breathe on my own, and it all came back to me!! Maybe that’s why it got me so bad.

PennyNotSoWise · 30/05/2020 15:21

Oh YY to Misery. The part where she breaks his ankles with the hammer.

In the book, she chops his foot off with an axe and cauterises it with a blow torch or something 😱 I really like the change though, breaking his ankles feels way more brutal, I don't know why.

Amazing book, and a great film adaptation. Kathy Bates was just made for that role.

TheVanguardSix · 30/05/2020 15:21

The Lighthouse.
I felt like my peace of mind had been shat on then set fire to after watching it. If tinnitus sounded like a foghorn... that's how I describe that film. Beautiful cinematography though.

BabloHoney · 30/05/2020 15:22

Horror films don’t usually bother me too much.. for very different reasons I found the Clive Owen film “Trust” very unsettling

Babycrackers · 30/05/2020 15:22

I would also recommend For Sama, a documentary/film about the Syrian war. Absolutely gut wrenching. Some parts made me son so hard I felt like I couldn't breathe, then others would have me laughing. It's absolute testament to the human spirit.
