I am in need of films that will actually keep me engaged and take my mind off my life at the moment, nice rom coms don't cut it right now! So please send your list of weird/disturbing/unsettling films my way

OP posts:
Amaranthine · 30/05/2020 16:10

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 16:11

Blood Diamond
The Revenant..

Ooh both diCaprio..

Milssofadoesntreallyfit · 30/05/2020 16:11

The adjustment bureau. To the point of almost being offended, despite actually believing in God and the actual general gist of the film.

I enjoy the film now though.

SimplySteveRedux · 30/05/2020 16:13

Passion of the Christ is very disturbing

Oh yes, gave me the chills. One of very few films I won't watch again.

emmetgirl · 30/05/2020 16:15

Son of Saul.
Very difficult watch. Utterly brilliant though.

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 16:17

A movie the name of which escapes me set in LA in 'the old days ' starring Jolie as a working single parent whose kid goes missing...then the aurthorities return a boy to her but its a different kid.....directed by Eastwood I believe. Very disturbing.

MouthBreathingRage · 30/05/2020 16:17

Logan - the idea that even superheroes become old and infirm, it's just a dark film with no real 'happy ending'. It's 100x more of an emotional hit than Endgame, bleak finality is a main theme not a cheap plot twist.

A.I. - the Spielberg film. Can't ever watch it again, especially since becoming a parent myself. Breaks my heart into pieces.

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 16:19

But we do get to hear Jolie utter the classic phrase 'fuck you and the horse you rode in on'.
She is a really good actress.

MarmotMorning · 30/05/2020 16:21

Definitely 'The Platform' on Netflix.

Gammeldragz · 30/05/2020 16:22

Mothman Prophesies

vikingwife · 30/05/2020 16:23

Wolf Creek was one of the few movies have had to switch off & not finish

The Shining is a great movie that will stay with you - Herrrre’s Johnny!

Whoever said they wish they never saw Pulp Fiction though.... will give it to you, never heard anyone say that before

Aretheystillasleepbob · 30/05/2020 16:23

Breaking the Waves, despite Emily Watson. Lars Von Trier really is the dreariest misogynistic excuse for a man.
@Destroyedpeople The Changeling? She's great in that... but I prefer her in Gia.

vikingwife · 30/05/2020 16:23

@Destroyedpeople changeling

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 30/05/2020 16:24

Apostle
Possum
Pan’s Labyrinth
Hereditary

LittlePeepoToy · 30/05/2020 16:26

Not watched but the synopsis was enough 😮 ‘Audition’

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 16:27

The Changeling! Thank you guys. Had never really seen Jolie in action before... she is vg

ProfessorHasturLaVista · 30/05/2020 16:28

As well as A Field In England (visually stunning, creepily compelling) Kill List and Sightseers by the same director, Ben Wheatley.

ChesterBelloc · 30/05/2020 16:29

Another 'vote' for Requiem for a Dream. That film has stayed with me for 20 years, and not in a good way. It's about heroin addicts, and the depths of depravity they can find themselves sinking into. One particular scene towards the end with two women, desperate for their next fix... horrendous.

namechange12345654321 · 30/05/2020 16:31

Funny Games, the original Austrian version. There's an American remake but I haven't seen it, would definitely recommend watching the one in subtitles. Really unsettled me because it could happen!

Namechangex10000 · 30/05/2020 16:32

Long time dead

Remember watching it with my older brother who lives in an annex on our house and even he was too terrified to take me back into the house after so I had to stay with him 🤣

Mumberjack · 30/05/2020 16:34

Most horror films don’t phase me but I cannot even look at a photo of Regan from the Exorcist without getting the shivers. Went to see it at the pictures for its 20th(??) anniversary and folk were laughing at it. I had to leave and had nightmares! Blush

Other films that got under my skin:
The Descent - have never jumped so much!
American History X - the kerb
Leaving Las Vegas

Homemadearmy · 30/05/2020 16:34

Agree with loads of the film's mentioned. In not really into horror so only lasted a few mins into saw and wolf's creek

The pledge. Jack Nicholson

SweetRuby · 30/05/2020 16:36

Eden Lake, I saw it in the cinema and it haunted me.

Namechangex10000 · 30/05/2020 16:36

Oh god someone’s reminded me, the original wicker man. I find it absolutely haunting just thinking about it. Horrible

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 16:37

Has anyone seen 'the others'?
