Placemarking because I need ideas!

DuskandSummer · 30/05/2020 19:42

Manchester by the Sea
Mudbound

Moosey65 · 30/05/2020 19:43

La Cabina, an early '70s Spanish subtitled film still available on YouTube that now looks incredibly dated. It has stuck with me to this day, always ensured l had my foot in the door of any telephone box l used for years after watching it.

Just rewatched Unbreakable so we can all watch Glass, and it turns out DH hadn't seen it before, just thought he had. The twist messed him right up Grin

The Accused, with Jodie Foster. It's a tale of a gang rape, entirely from the woman's point of view, starting (I think - it was a long time ago) with her being examined physically by the police after reporting it. One of the very few films of the time that could show a rape in all its cruelty without using it to titillate male viewers, I thought. My fingernails were stuck to my palms when I came out of the cinema.

Epigram · 30/05/2020 20:07

They've both been mentioned already, but mine are:

Last King of Scotland
Manchester by the Sea

don't forget to watch Split first as well or you'll be baffled!
LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 30/05/2020 20:24

Exocism of Emily Rose.

DameFanny · 30/05/2020 20:25

Split? Damn, what's that?

Nameisthegame · 30/05/2020 20:25

Anyone said grave of the fireflies?

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/05/2020 20:26

Midsommer - I’d never seen anything like it and found it really disturbing 😬

Crazyoldmaurice · 30/05/2020 20:28

I can't believe only 2 people on this thread have recommended Bone Tomahawk.

It is the most disturbing film I've ever seen. Just so chilling.

It's on netflix at the moment, seriously give it a watch... if you dare!

Elderflower14 · 30/05/2020 20:28

The Krays...
Gave me nightmares got weeks...

middleager · 30/05/2020 20:31

Ooh yes. First saw it as a child on late night TV and it really freaked me out.

It is, but if you haven't seen it, The Wicker Man paved the way for this unsettling film.
ghostyslovesheets · 30/05/2020 20:36

@DameFanny

Split? Damn, what's that?
second film of the 3 - Glass brings the three characters together
DameFanny · 30/05/2020 20:40

I googled ghosty, arse. Looking for it now.

yossell · 30/05/2020 20:43

Some great suggestions here. Here are some non-horror films that have really unsettled me and stuck with me for years. (sorry if they've been mentioned already)

Eraserheard, Lost Highway -- David Lynch;
Performance -- Nicolas Roeg (His Don't Look Now is also disturbing, but perhaps too close to the horror genre);
Melancholia -- Lars von Trier;
Happiness -- Todd Solondz;
Man Bites Dog -- Rémy Belvaux, André Bonzel and Benoît Poelvoorde,(Maybe too close to horror though)

whataboutbob · 30/05/2020 20:44

Anything by Lars Von Trier. Mysoginistic fruitcake.

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 20:48

@TiddlestheCat........Shock remind me not to do that to my grand child. ..!!!

Dita73 · 30/05/2020 20:52

Jude. Kate Winslet and Christopher Ecclestone are in it. I saw it once years ago and I had bad depression at the time. I can’t begin to describe how much it disturbed me. I was thinking about it for weeks after. Even thinking about it now makes me anxious. I will never ever watch it again

LuluJakey1 · 30/05/2020 20:53

Don't Look Now
Sinister

Heidi1976 · 30/05/2020 20:53

Irreversible
Antichrist
Melancholia

Just warning you, these are really really disturbing!!

JufusMum · 30/05/2020 20:56

Another vote for Threads.
It’s actually my favourite film but it gives me nightmares.

efeslight · 30/05/2020 20:58

Another recommendation for A Field In England, very weird and unsettling
