The Road . Got to the scene where they open the door to the cellar and couldn't watch anymore. Has stayed with me for ages. Don't ever need to see the rest of the film !

TiddlestheCat · 30/05/2020 17:31

If you want great thought provoking/sad films instead of just 'disturbing', Into The Wild and Pans Labyrinth are both excellent!!

ilovecardigans · 30/05/2020 17:32

The Mist
Into the Wild
I found both endings haunting!

Oh my, yes! It's been years since I watched these films, but they both stuck with me for ages. The ending of The Mist in particular absolutey floored me. It was like being winded. Ooof!

Into the Wild has reminded me of another film (more of a documentary really) that really gripped me and had me Googling for hours afterwards. It's called Grizzly Man by Werner Herzog. OMFG - the scene where Werner is listening to the tape...

Sleepers

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 17:50

@BarkandCheese the Heathers as a musical! That is so ....random.
Christian Slater looks like the love child of Colombo in this....

AzraiL · 30/05/2020 17:52

The Road with Viggo Mortensen.
Post apocalyptic, unsettling and disturbing.
It stayed with me for a while after I watched it.

vikingwife · 30/05/2020 17:53

@ilovecardigans grizzly man - the tape audio must be awful & it’s for the best the audio has never been released. Very good doco

AzraiL · 30/05/2020 17:54

I also vote for Buried with Ryan Reynolds.

Prettybubblesintheair · 30/05/2020 17:56

Creep.

ilovecardigans · 30/05/2020 17:56

@vikingwife I think I remember Werner advising Timothy's ex-girlfriend that she should destroy the tape. Hopefully she has.

Harrysmum2020 · 30/05/2020 18:24

Megan is missing soo fucking disturbing

hopeforlucky3 · 30/05/2020 18:26

CHIRIBAYA · 30/05/2020 18:37

Black Swan

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 30/05/2020 18:39

There’s a great film of around that vintage called Society

Its on netflix or prime at the moment

No help to you if you don’t have netflix or prime...and I can’t remember which one

vikingwife · 30/05/2020 18:40

@ilovecardigans as I understand it she has destroyed the tape, or at least kept it off the internet. Insert bad “grisly/grizzly” comment here

BelfryBat · 30/05/2020 18:41

Once Were Warriors

Very upsetting and unglamorous depiction of violence against women.

candilemon · 30/05/2020 18:51

Midsommer.

Prettybubblesintheair · 30/05/2020 18:53

Oh yes the changeling with angelina jolie and Steve buscimi (no idea how to spell his name!). Properly freaked me out when I watched it at about 15/16.

Kpo58 · 30/05/2020 18:53

Grave of the Fireflies

TooGood2BeTrue · 30/05/2020 19:00

Sorry, not movies but series:
Chernobyl
Babylon Berlin
Deutschland 83
Killing Eve
Charité

TazSyd · 30/05/2020 19:24

Chernobyl is very harrowing.

ilovecardigans · 30/05/2020 19:25

Have remembered one more - Letters From Iwo Jima. Brutal, poignant and utterly heartbreaking. I almost forgot to breathe when I was watching it.

CammieKennaway · 30/05/2020 19:30

Fragile starring Calista Flockhart - I'm a horror fan and can happily watch horrors on my own when my husband is working abroad but this movie terrified me!

Bananalanacake · 30/05/2020 19:31

Cannibal Holocaust, I would never watch it but my brother says it's so disturbing as it's made in 'lost footage' format.
