To Ask How You Think Lockdown Will Change Tomorrow?

Some people seem to think "lockdown" will be significantly relaxed tomorrow. Personally I think the message will be that you can exercise outside more than once a day, and go to work as long as you can socially distance in your job. I don't think seeing friends or family will be permitted yet.

I'm hoping it won't be relaxed more than that as worried that we're not over the first peak yet, and that a second peak could be worse than the first. I'm a nurse so can't stay home if the shit hits the fan.

Just wondering what other people think will happen, and/or would like to happen?

YABU - Lockdown needs to be significantly relaxed tomorrow.

YANBU - It's too early to make any major changes to lockdown yet.

I don't understand how people think that the government can announce now that a particular restriction will end on the nth May/June /whenever when everything is dependent on criteria around R number reducing, Testing in place etc

Just imagine the threads on here if it was announced that people could meet up with their closest families from 1st June and then they had to backtrack because at that point it wasn't considered to be a safe option (most likely because people had decided that if this was to happen soon then they may as well start straight away ....)

I live in a city (a very small city, but a city none the less). Since the lockdown happened I haven't seen anybody breaking the rules at all. Admittedly I only leave the house on Saturday and Sunday; Saturday is for supermarket shopping and Sunday is for dogwalking. People are very good at standing 2mtrs away and following the one-way system in the shops. Just because some people are not following the 'lockdown rules' certainly doesn't mean 'everybody' is ignoring them. It's so easy to tar everyone with the same brush. It's easy to say, 'I see people doing this', and extrapolating everyone with the same opinion, so God forbid we should have an easing of the current lockdown rules. From my experience the majority are complying, but I'm willing to accept that that may not be the case everywhere, because i don't have a looking glass into everybody else's world.

@JovialNickname Where do you live ? Is there not somewhere more comfortable for you ?

JovialNickname · 10/05/2020 00:50

@Justgorgeous I'm in London, and sadly not, I live in a hostel type situation. Thank you for taking the time to ask though :) and let's hope there's a little good news for everyone tomorrow.

I'm expecting & hoping that there will be no limits on outdoor exercise, sitting, picnicking or sunbathing etc

The risk for such outdoor activities is now known to be very low, provided the 2m rule is observed

So many people like JovialNickname have had a much tougher time than those with gardens in leafy suburbs or in rural areas.

I hope you can enjoy a relaxing sunbathe v soon, JovialNickname â›±

I'm expecting more traffic on the roads.
I should fill my car up before petrol rises again!
I personally won't be changing anything, apart from I might go to the garden centre next weekend if it's not too busy which it will be

noriim · 11/05/2020 00:26

I think Bozo balled up re VE Day. Lots of people were expecting (wrongly) that lockdown was to be lifted on Monday (thanks tabloid press) and so ignored SD rules over the weekend.

I think he planned for people to celebrate in this way actually. The R rate is too low to achieve here immunity so just a little nudge to get it going in the right direction. Otherwise all we have left is a grossly incompetent government winging it Benny Hill style.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/05/2020 05:48

Herd immunity

Bit of a free for all. But they’ve shifted the responsibility to us. That’s going to end well 😂

Justgorgeous · 11/05/2020 08:40

@JovialNickname I hope you can go outside this week when the weather gets warmer and sit somewhere more comfortable. Your post really touched me and I do hope you are ok. X

JovialNickname · 12/05/2020 12:41

@Justgorgeous - Thank you so much for your kind words Smile yes I am planning on doing plenty of sunbathing and reading in the park now that I am allowed to! I have even ordered a shewee off Amazon so that I don't have to nip home for toilet breaks. I'm really happy that I got what I wanted but I'm aware other people have more serious problems that can't be solved so easily x
