To Ask How You Think Lockdown Will Change Tomorrow?

Popc0rn · 09/05/2020 13:36

Some people seem to think "lockdown" will be significantly relaxed tomorrow. Personally I think the message will be that you can exercise outside more than once a day, and go to work as long as you can socially distance in your job. I don't think seeing friends or family will be permitted yet.

I'm hoping it won't be relaxed more than that as worried that we're not over the first peak yet, and that a second peak could be worse than the first. I'm a nurse so can't stay home if the shit hits the fan.

Just wondering what other people think will happen, and/or would like to happen?

YABU - Lockdown needs to be significantly relaxed tomorrow.

YANBU - It's too early to make any major changes to lockdown yet.

He's already said pretty much nothing will change.

I predict more outdoor time, picnics and the reopening of garden centres. Maybe things like NT outdoor spaces reopening too.

Hagisonthehill · 09/05/2020 14:26

I think they were planning a bigger relaxing of lockdown but have pulled back as the R number has risen a bit.
This may be due to more infected cases being detected through increased testing or because of those ignoring lockdown advice increasing the numbers.
With the cooler weather coming will people carry on seeing friends and family? It's certainly a more efficient was of adding on the virus indoors than it has been outside in the sun.

SnackSizeRaisin · 09/05/2020 14:27

The roads around here are back up to normal weekend traffic levels and lots of people are having picnics in groups. We live in North Wales just on the border with England. It's going to be completely unenforceable soon.
Nurseries are opening up again this week so I think there will be a noticeable easing. Probably aimed at enabling more people to work. Perhaps more shops or cafes open. Hopefully a bit of socialising!
I don't see the need for it to be extended. The outbreaks now are mainly in care homes, the rest of us staying home won't help with that.

my2bundles · 09/05/2020 14:32

Agree with vanilla. It's already been said, repeatedly, that nothing much will change people just choose not to listen. There might be a very miniscule change and a road map of possible changes over the next few months that will be subject to change if numbers rise Those of us who ignore media rumours and listen to government briefings already understand this.

Zaphodsotherhead · 09/05/2020 14:36

I think they may talk about 'plans'. People are missing having any idea of what might be going to happen; I think they will be happy with lockdown continuing if they just have the idea that the Government has some clue as to how to move forward.

So I think lockdown will continue until June, but there will be 'plans' for phased returns to work for those who can do so safely, an opening up of 'outdoor spaces' (garden centres and possibly NT and EH sites, with restrictions on numbers) being phased in and also 'plans' for schools. I don't think there will be any ACTUAL changes from Monday.

Just lots of talk, basically.

MadameMinimes · 09/05/2020 14:36

There is zero chance that everything is going back to normal on Monday. Businesses, retailers and schools are not going to be reopening and going back to normal with 12 hours notice. A number of our staff returned to their home countries for the lockdown and are working remotely from abroad right now.
I work in a school, reopening isn’t just a matter of telling staff and students to turn up. Even if all our staff could get back for Monday there are other things to consider. We haven’t had any food deliveries so wouldn’t be able to serve lunch, just as one example.
Businesses will be in a similar situation, they won’t have staff rotas written, won’t necessarily have stock, will have cancelled deliveries, cancelled cleaning contracts etc. These things take time to put back in place. It can’t be done in a few hours on a Sunday evening.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 09/05/2020 14:39

I think picnics in the park, sitting at a distance, or generally sitting in the park will be allowed. Hopefully nice walking locations will open again soon.

AndMyHairWillShineLikeTheSea · 09/05/2020 14:41

Well I'm in Scotland and we've already been told nothing is changing for us so I won't bother watching tbh,

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/05/2020 14:42

Gardening centres and refuse sites I think.

Pelleas · 09/05/2020 14:43

They've already said garden centres will reopen.

I think the main message will be 'get back to work (but maintain social distancing).

Bojo will probably waffle on about biking or walking to work.

The rule about only going out once for exercise might be scrapped.

Bojo may outline tentative dates for future relaxations but only "if the five tests are met".

imsooverthisdrama · 09/05/2020 14:45

I think it will be everyone back on Monday
What ?

PinkSpring · 09/05/2020 14:46

They need to allow people to see their family and friends, even if it's limited to a set number. It's not right to tell people they can go to work, go to the garden centre, go to the park but they can't see family?!

Peoples mental health is suffering hugely, they need to consider the impact of what they are doing to people by keeping them separated

cologne4711 · 09/05/2020 14:46

NT sites could reopen for members only, that wouldn't be difficult in most cases.

Car parks for country parks etc need to reopen - stop squeezing us into small spaces. I went out this morning and noticed that a dog walker car park had some big stones in front of the entrance. Presumably because it's a bit near the canal towpath. Yet drive another 2 miles or so and there's a huge car park by the canal which is open. Totally inconsistent. And another one about 1km away with about 3 cars in it, so if you wanted to drive and then walk to the canal you could, so why close other car parks.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/05/2020 14:46

Thought it was just as ‘senior government source’ has told the papers. No one said anything like that in any 5pm announcements so far iirc about garden centres

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/05/2020 14:47

In England that is. Think wales announced it though

Givemeabreakpls · 09/05/2020 14:47

I am in agreement with pps who have said nothing much will change, but why the hell do we have to wait until tomorrow night for a ‘big speech’?! It strikes me that until Thursday/Friday they had a few options and waited to see what the appetite was for the various stages of lifting. There is no plan, they’re drifting on the wind of opinion.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/05/2020 14:48

Oh god I hope NT don’t open free to enter to everyone again... that was chaos

cabinfever2 · 09/05/2020 14:49

Not a lot will change , NI ,Scotland and Wales all on 3 more weeks of lockdown with minor changes like more than once a day exercise allowed and garden centres open so I can't see how England will be a lot different

PileofToss · 09/05/2020 14:50

I’m not expecting a huge amount of changes to be in place from Monday, but perhaps the announcement of a schedule that they’re hoping to use in the coming weeks. We all need something to look forward to now.

The issue the government has is that they can’t keep the furlough scheme up, its costing a lot more than they estimated. They need businesses to go back and for the economy to start moving again. The effects of a recession and economic crash will affect people’s health and well being for years to come as well, it’s not just the current threat of Covid that we need to worry about.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/05/2020 14:51

They extended some dates for ppl that are shielding

GrimmsFairytales · 09/05/2020 14:52

They need to allow people to see their family and friends, even if it's limited to a set number. It's not right to tell people they can go to work, go to the garden centre, go to the park but they can't see family?!

I suspect a fair few people will do so, even if they're not actually supposed to.

If a person had to travel to work on public transport, spend all day not socially distancing from colleagues, shop after work in a crowded supermarket but couldn't see their family. They're most likely going to go ahead and see them.

PubsClubsMinistryOfSound · 09/05/2020 14:59

The intention is evidently to restrict the furlough scheme after the current incarnation expires at the end of June. Sunak essentially told us that earlier in the week. Realistically this aim requires some of the people who are currently being paid their 80% to restart work in July. Even if the criteria stay as they are but payments cut, the government would still prefer people working than on eg 70% or 60%. So I think everything will now be done with this in mind, for better or for worse.

vanillandhoney · 09/05/2020 15:00

They need to allow people to see their family and friends, even if it's limited to a set number

They don't NEED to do anything.

And the problem with saying "You can see five people outside of your own home" or whatever is that it's completely impossible to monitor. I could see five people including my mum, who could also see another four people (me, plus four others) and on it goes. It's one of those ideas that's been thrown out with no real consideration as to how it would work.

Besides, people are already seeing their family and friends.

hammeringinmyhead · 09/05/2020 15:02

I think garden centres and possibly libraries will open. Libraries would be great for those shielding, so some more entertainment could be dropped off!

Otherwise I think it's just Boris telling us what will happen from the end of May.

hammeringinmyhead · 09/05/2020 15:04

I'm a NT member and it would help my sanity muchly if I could take DS to somewhere for a walk with some sausage rolls and a flask.
