To Ask How You Think Lockdown Will Change Tomorrow?

Popc0rn · 09/05/2020 13:36

Some people seem to think "lockdown" will be significantly relaxed tomorrow. Personally I think the message will be that you can exercise outside more than once a day, and go to work as long as you can socially distance in your job. I don't think seeing friends or family will be permitted yet.

I'm hoping it won't be relaxed more than that as worried that we're not over the first peak yet, and that a second peak could be worse than the first. I'm a nurse so can't stay home if the shit hits the fan.

Just wondering what other people think will happen, and/or would like to happen?

YABU - Lockdown needs to be significantly relaxed tomorrow.

YANBU - It's too early to make any major changes to lockdown yet.

Not changing in Wales.

Officials say you can go out exercising more than once a day but people do that anyway🤷🏼‍♀️.

Garden centres gan be open but the one i use is open and never closed! Just use common sense.

And schools aren’t opening for a while.

So really, nothing changes.

Sophiesdog2020 · 09/05/2020 16:46

I am not hopeful that much will change tomorrow, I think it will be more of a road map for next few weeks, but I am not even hopeful for June changes given the number of people who I have witnessed breaking lockdown in last 24hrs.

Neighbour set 1 have DD and DGC to stay - they live 2 hrs away.
Neighbour set 2 who have relatives a few doors down, having gathering at relatives house last night. The teenage boys and their grandad (So 3 households) now huddled together discussing route for a bike ride.
Neighbour set 3 having son/gc in house yesterday.

These are just a few examples - DS says it’s nothing to do with me, Live and let live, and whilst I agree to some extent, I just want to see some progress towards the end of lockdown, and when people are blatantly ignoring the advice, I can only foresee us going backwards in coming weeks!

tartanbow · 09/05/2020 16:46

@WyfOfBathe of course we have lol - you choose whether to wear your seatbelt, you choose whether to stick to the speed limit - people always have and always will, unless they are completely restricted from doing so, for themselves.

HeckyPeck · 09/05/2020 16:47

honestly, this is irrelevant. people are making their minds up daily regardless of what others think. they are risk assessing for themselves. it really doesnt matter whether you think they should or not.

By your logic I guess we should just scrap all laws then and have a free for all.

Pringletastic · 09/05/2020 16:48

Sadly I think it will be another 3 week extension, but why on earth BJ has to wait until Sunday evening to tell us, rather than just announce it last Thursday like Scotland and Wales did. It seems pretentious. It also seems patronising.
I hope I am proved wrong and there is regional/local lifting of some of the removals of our liberties. Isolation is a silent killer.

my2bundles · 09/05/2020 16:48

Tartan deluding yourself dosent make any of true.

tartanbow · 09/05/2020 17:00

@HeckyPeck again, people do break the law though dont they. I personally wouldn't go into a shop and rob something because I dont want to risk going to prison and I'm not a thief but plenty do.

bundles I love how much sense you consistently make. gold star for you Star

anyway, aside from this OP, in all honesty I dont think they will lift much. echoing PP you might be able to do a bit more outside/more regularly, other shops may open, will probably get a slightly clearer insight into what the exit plan will be (not holding my breathe) but I dont think it will be much more.
I think June will be when it will start being eased on a more considerable level

WyfOfBathe · 09/05/2020 17:00

@WyfOfBathe of course we have lol - you choose whether to wear your seatbelt, you choose whether to stick to the speed limit - people always have and always will, unless they are completely restricted from doing so, for themselves.

Of course some people choose to break laws. Some people break speed limits, some break the lockdown laws. That doesn't mean the government should promote driving at 100mph or taking granny to a big party Confused

HouseTornado · 09/05/2020 17:00

I hope they allow swimming in the sea.

I miss swimming in the sea.

Pretty sure no one will mention swimming in the sea.

Wehttam · 09/05/2020 17:01

I hope the tweaks are very small. I think we should be holding off until those countries in Europe have a sense of the effect easing restrictions has had one their numbers. Heck even the America has started reopening, we are in a position to learn from their mistakes. Lets reap some benefits from being so late in locking down so the unnecessary deaths and infections that could have been avoided aren’t in vain.

LondonJax · 09/05/2020 17:03

I agree with many on here. Tomorrow will be a road map script with a few things coming back, very tentatively. Things like garden centres, maybe more time allowed outside. Then a couple of weeks testing, then a bit more freedom and on it goes until either we're as open as we can be or we hit a rise and that will result in a mini lockdown. Then testing the way we behave again.

I think the reason Boris left it until Sunday was because of VE day. If he'd mentioned more time outside from Monday on the Thursday before VE day we'd have had even more people dancing with their neighbours or chatting over fences. By keeping the lockdown exactly as it is for VE day and the bank holiday weekend, he's sending the message that people still have to obey the current rules.

Now the weekend is coming to an end he can give the next set of rules without having the VE day commemorations to worry about - people still seem to get muddled with the rules that have been in place for 6 weeks, quite what they'd have done yesterday if the rules had changed a little God only knows.

GrimmsFairytales · 09/05/2020 17:07

If he'd mentioned more time outside from Monday on the Thursday before VE day we'd have had even more people dancing with their neighbours or chatting over fences.

I doubt it. Most of those doing the above were doing so from their front gardens / front of house. So any going out more for exercise speeches wouldn't have made much if any difference to their behaviour.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 09/05/2020 17:16

@PileofToss - what about Maggie, Tone and Call me Dave?

JacobReesMogadishu · 09/05/2020 17:19

What time is the announcement tomorrow?

GreyGardens88 · 09/05/2020 17:19

Unlimited outdoor exercise and sunbathing allowed (people are doing this now anyway).

vanillandhoney · 09/05/2020 17:20

What time is the announcement tomorrow?

7pm.

TeacupDrama · 09/05/2020 17:20

I think garden centres and small shops ( shoe repairs stationery etc) will reopen with social distancing

People who can't work from home encouraged back to work even if alternate days shift work teams to stay the same so Jane Paul and Andrew work together and so do Susan Liz and Pete but no mixing teams or clients so Team A deal with XYZ and team B deal wiith QRS

for the sake of public transport encouragement to stagger start times so team A start at 8 and finish at 4.30 team B start at 9 and finish at 5.30 team C do 10-6.30 with staggered lunches too

if you can work at home you have to stay working at home

furlough only available after June if Government specifically say that type of business ie restaurant can't open but if you make and fit kitchens you won't be able to furlough anymore as you are allowed to be operational there may be so reduced support to help peaople work reduced hours because of social distancing

exercising for longer and more than once a day, but still locally no driving to the peak district unless you already live there with plans that sports like golf / tennis where social distancing possible to start in a few weeks

I think he will announce that if this goes well there will be further relaxtion on 28th May when next renewal up or even some on 21st

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/05/2020 17:21

I prefer Bozo.

As for the announcement, I think announcing there was going to be one was an odd move and has prompted Scotland and Wales to pre-empt. They don’t trust him to put everyone’s best interest first either. Having shown such a lack of awareness, does he even get the implication of Scotland being further behind London?

He’s just so lazy and manipulative. Speeches about making model buses to change the googling hits.

Kpo58 · 09/05/2020 17:22

why on earth BJ has to wait until Sunday evening to tell us, rather than just announce it last Thursday like Scotland and Wales did

I would have thought that people wouldn't then decide to do the relaxed rules early on the bank holiday. If the bank holiday hadn't been changed for this year, then they probably would have announced it on Thursday.

I'm really hoping that they will let us see local close relatives from Monday.

mencken · 09/05/2020 17:29

with new cases steady, anyone who thinks normal life and contact is coming is utterly deluded.

It is a matter of working out how to do things while still staying distant, and will be for months or more.

my2bundles · 09/05/2020 17:30

Ben Wright political correspondent has just said on bbc news that no dates for any changes will be released tomorrow. The PM will be trying to give us a sense of where this journey goes next. Ministers have stressed that any changes will be small and limited.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 09/05/2020 17:30

Well I think wales has already announced the immediate changes, out for exercise more than once and garden centres open. They’ve said all 4 nations are to align.

I think map of relaxation of restrictions will be set out In Line with meeting certain goals, eg infection rate below x will lead to c restrictions being lifted, an increase of x will lead to a reinstatement of some. To compensate other restrictions will be put in place. I suspect a UK/Ireland travel bubble, obviously the much mentioned 14 day quarantine, masks on public transport. Offices will not go back for a long time.

1forAll74 · 09/05/2020 17:39

IT remains to be seen, what will happen next, and no use people making any big plans for freedom yet.

MargotB7 · 09/05/2020 17:44

So are we going for typing out ‘Boris Johnson’ or ‘The Prime Minister’?

I'll carry on calling him Boris. If you were watching TV example BGT you would talk about Simon or David. I can't get stressed about such things. Yes Margaret Thatcher was referred to as Maggie.

I don't think there will be much change tomorrow.

CallmeAngelina · 09/05/2020 17:54

No dates specified?
Oh, goodie. That means loads more, "Will schools be fully open on June 1st" threads then.
