AIBU? Neighbours demanding money for McDonald’s

Radishey · 03/05/2020 09:52

We live in quite a small but nice street, mainly detached with decent sized gardens. We have a whatsapp group that the whole street is on, barring one family LOL. But we won’t talk about them.

Anyway, DH is the one who reads the group most often and has now got into a massive fight with the neighbours over a group-buy of McDonalds food next week.

Well I've read the thread carefully and I'm still none the wiser about the group McDonald's order.

Was someone being forced to pay for McDonald's they didn’t want? Was this the lockdown version of at the end of a group restaurant meal where the person who had three courses of steak and seafood and 2 bottles of claret plus a whisky chaser announces 'shall we just spilt the bill' and the person who only had a pizza and a glass of tap water because that was all they could afford to pay for cries into their empty purse?

PanamaPattie · 03/05/2020 11:56

I’d love a detached seven figure burger right about now. Can I get fries with that?

TheGreatWave · 03/05/2020 12:08

I’m proud of what we have and we have worked very hard to be where we are now. YES it’s a detached house and YES it wasn’t far off seven figures, but that’s the area we live in and we have worked hard for it.

I have a detached house and a big garden, but alas no where near 7 figures, though it does have two bathrooms.

I however have not worked particularly hard, just fallen lucky with pre-boom / post-boom prices.

TheGreatWave · 03/05/2020 12:09

But back to McDonald's the dairy milk mcflurry going is a travesty.

Schuyler · 03/05/2020 12:10

I’d love a McDonald’s right now even though I live in a terraced house with a small garden.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 03/05/2020 12:11

The most interesting thing about this thread was finding out Wimpy still exists, their fries were great.
Funny thread, glad it's not been zapped.

QuestionableMouse · 03/05/2020 12:11

@TheGreatWave

It went because it wasn't that popular and the chocolate pieces used to melt in a huge lump in the summer. Nightmare to work with.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 03/05/2020 12:12

I have no garden at all, I might have to make do with a Subway.

RagamuffinAndFidget · 03/05/2020 12:12

I am one of 'the other family'. We were removed from the WhatsApp group three weeks into lockdown when we refused to take part in the Thursday night 'launch a nuclear missile for carers' event. We didn't mind when it was just clapping but even though our houses are worth nearly seven figures, and are mostly detached with decent sized gardens, they are still close enough together that a nuclear missile felt like a bad call. We clearly aren't missing much!

Oh, and, we will be having KFC next week Wink

Bunnybigears · 03/05/2020 12:12

I dont even have a garden, am I allowed a McDonalds?!

HeyBlaby · 03/05/2020 12:14

A street Whatsapp group is my idea of a nightmare. No doubt I would be 'that family' should such a group arise in my area.

x2boys · 03/05/2020 12:14

Me too @Shhuyler and my house is a small two bed council house,we don't even eat McDonald's that often ,it's funny what you miss though when you can't have it .

Travis1 · 03/05/2020 12:14

But @LouMumsnet now we’re never going to know if McDonalds is code for mcorgy and just how close to the 7 figures it actually was.....I gots to know!!!! 😭😩😬😬

Blueuggboots · 03/05/2020 12:16

*Firstly, thanks for all the sarcastic replies. If you don’t have anything nice to say, then do not say it.

I’m proud of what we have and we have worked very hard to be where we are now. YES it’s a detached house and YES it wasn’t far off seven figures, but that’s the area we live in and we have worked hard for it. Not that it has anything to do with any of you anyway!

WTAF??!! Nobody cares love.

Yankathebear · 03/05/2020 12:17

Just a FYI I live in a detached property with absolutely no neighbours and don’t like macdonalds nor do I have WhatsApp. I feel like I might be missing out.

Blueuggboots · 03/05/2020 12:17

Oh, and now I've RTFT, they're not coming back anyway, 🤣🤣🤣

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 03/05/2020 12:21

Was I the only one who read the title of the thread and imagined OP's husband opening the front door to be confronted by half a dozen beefy men wearing wrap around glasses and carrying baseball bats demanding money for MaccyDs

Oh and don't forget they'd have a snarling dog on the end of a short lead - Cavapoo obviously, cos it's a naice area.

longearedbat · 03/05/2020 12:22

Well, I am amazed. I had no idea that Wimpy was still around. Apparently there are 64 branches in England. Sadly, doing a location check, there isn't one within 50 miles of us here in Gloucestershire, so that's that. No wonder I thought they no longer existed.

heidipi · 03/05/2020 12:23

DP has just come back from hunter gathering at Tesco. WIBU to send him back again for burgers, pickles and plastic cheese?

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 03/05/2020 12:24

I’d love a detached seven figure burger right about now. Can I get fries with that?

That's an additional five figures.

Stillfunny · 03/05/2020 12:25

How much would you hate to be the counter staff that has to take the order for a large group McDonald's ???
I don't think you could trust that there would not be some retaliation. No sauce on half of the Big Macs, 8 nuggets in a bag and only strawberry milkshake ( blah )

Falafellygood · 03/05/2020 12:25

I live in a nice, quiet street with detached homes and decent size gardens...but I don't like McDonald's nor are we a part of a WhatsApp street group!
Shock are we the shunned family????!!!!

This is a batshit post though and a refreshing change from CV posts Grin

Taddda · 03/05/2020 12:29

@Carolduckingbaskin £30 for a Wimpy! I've already had to purchase the chintz curtains, thought they'd just assume I'd have the scalloped aubergine bathroom set....

I don't seem to qualify for the McDonalds accommodation/WhatsApp requirements....

I'll have to cook!! We're done for....😭

Carolduckingbaskin · 03/05/2020 12:37

@heidipi totally reasonable - just don’t forget burger sauce.

mollypuss1 · 03/05/2020 12:39

I last had a Wimpy in Taunton about 10 years ago. They still did Lime Milkshakes, and I had a Brown Derby. Grin Food of the Gods.
