To think Gary Barlow can’t sing

He can write a song but he can’t sing

He can’t seem to pay his taxes either.

I've always hated Gary Barlow. Not surprised he turned out to be a tax dodger. And no, he can't sign.

I would say he can sing better than your average bloke.

He's ok until you put him up against really good singers (which he keeps doing in his crooner vids) and then you can really hear how mediocre his voice is.

He’s mostly known for songwriting though and that he does seem to be very successful at.

Maybe he can put all the dodged taxes he never paid to children in need instead of singing for money

We went to see him on his solo tour a few years ago and I was surprised at how good his voice actually is live.

I think he can sing, but it's not a binary thing or 'Can sing/can't sing' anyway. There are obviously different levels of performance, and he's not got a truly amazing voice, but that doesn't mean he 'can't sing'. I enjoy listening to him.

Speaking of the Crooner sessions, I think my favourite so far is the one he did with Alfie Boe.

I think it’s all subjective.Very few of them can actually sing, that’s become very apparent over the past couple of weeks with the number of stars putting out videos where they clearly don’t have the benefit of the recording studio.

But even those who are successful it’s still subjective. E.g. I thought Amy Winehouse was shite and that she was only famous because she was a junky who essentially drank herself to death, but others upheld her as some fantastic musician.

No pop singers can sing? Really. Adele, Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Meghan Traynor to name a few. They might not be your cup of tea but they can sing. Gary Barlow can sing but hasn't not the X Factor so better at writing songs. Still fit though!

Amy Winehouse wrote innovative music and there's no doubt at all she had a powerful voice. It may not be to your taste but its clear she was talented.
Gary Barlow has a mediocre voice and writes generic pop. He is successful at that but in no way is unique or highly talented.

He used to be able to sing, but his dancing was always a joke.

I find Gary Barlow fronting these things so distasteful.
Pretending he cares about the NHS and wanting working class people to pay extra for it when he dodged millions in tax.

Agree with Cats. Loads of them can’t sing.
When you listen back, before voice tuning etc, to Whitney & Mariah, and any singers before. Those are really powerful singers.
Can’t compare Gary, Robbie, Olly & co to say, Glen Campbell.

He’s a talented musician though and that counts for just as much.

Eric Clapton for e.g.isn’t the world’s greatest singer but he is one of the world’s greatest guitar players....

I though KT Tunstall sounded so much better than him yesterday - she made it effortless.

Yes he can sing but he hasnt got an amazing voice - never has as a previous poster said its his songwriting

What i have noticed is that by and large women have far greater range and depth to their voices (bar some exceptional male voices)

I absolutely loved Beverley Knight when she sang with him, and I was also surprised at how nice Ronan Keating's voice was too.

I haven't checked the news the last day or two so wasn't aware of any tax issues.

Thing is,there are a lot of not very good artists out there who are simply famous because they were in the right place at the right time.

And TBH I don’t particularly give as much credit to someone who can sing as someone who can play an instrument.

He sang me a song once while I sat next to him. He sounded great.
