I couldn't see another tread on this. But if there is, please link it.

What's your opinion on this? AIBU to think this is in very bad taste?

Got enough material for your next column yet?

Doggybiccys · 23/04/2020 15:39

@username1724 - not sure if you have actually read the full thread but many of the posters who are agreeing that this sort of showboating is inappropriate are front line NHS nurses, myself included. Others have family members who are front line staff. Others are members of the public who are just as entitled to have an opinion as they are in essence the service users and funders of the NHS.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 23/04/2020 15:39

Well I’m not an ITU nurse and I’ve got an opinion so crack on. I’ve also not appeared in any tiktoks so have no vested interest in this, people are going through enough without seeing that.

I do agree about the use of PPE tho!

AnnofPeeves · 23/04/2020 15:40

Unless the footage shows a patient flat lining in the background being purposefully ignored whilst the nurses get their jollies, leave them bloody well alone.

I don't think a single person in this thread has suggested that dancing nurses are purposefully neglecting patients . There are however other valid arguments being put forward as to why this behaviour is inappropriate.

Loubylou9162 · 23/04/2020 15:56

I work for the nhs on the frontline and I am having an awful time at work. I’m physically and emotionally drained at the end of every day.
I dont like these videos either! I think regardless of whether it’s on a break or after shift it’s not professional, it’s cringeworthy and time that could be better spent doing something else.
If I have a moment spare in my day, I sit with patients who aren’t allowed visitors and talk to them, keep them company and attempt to bring a bit of comfort to them in such a horrible time.

whiskybysidedoor · 23/04/2020 16:05

Of course the awful shame is when the subject of renumeration comes up all people have to do is refer to those TikToks and say pay rise for what? Never mind the staff who are actually killing themselves on the front line.

Bit of an own goal there sadly.

Meirou90 · 23/04/2020 16:08

It’s fucking stupid end of. So is that bastarding clapping.

Annamaria14 · 23/04/2020 16:09

I think it is wrong. Nobody can get a hospital appointment, it is a very serious time, and there they are filming themselves dancing around

ThrowbackMagic · 23/04/2020 16:10

@whiskybysidedoor

Is that what you think? That making a video likes that should be factored in when considering pay rises for NHS staff?

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 16:10

Oh my, that first video is so cringeworthy I stopped watching it. That’s appealing.

Appalling! I hate typing on iPads.

I didn’t offer an opinion either way. Regardless you know it, I know it, everyone reading knows it. There’s no use pretending otherwise.

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 16:50

Exactly @BovaryX - we have a National Covid Service in place of proper healthcare and no idea of how deadly this virus is because there is insufficient testing capacity. If it turns out that the fatality rate is below 1% once we DO have that capacity, then we have given non-Covid patients a death sentence for no good reason.But keep dancing, it’s not striking a bum note with the public at all

@RunningAwaywiththeCircus
I agree. It's spectacular incompetence and I hope those responsible for what will sadly transpire to be lethal decisions in terms of shelving cancer treatment are held accountable. The juxtaposition of the NHS closing its doors to seriously ill patients with the queasy scenes of pot bangers, cheerleaders and synchronised dancers? Beyond parody.

ScreamingKid · 23/04/2020 16:55

I originally thought it was no big deal , its q street release etc. But , yes in some ways I agree to a point. I find the whole NHS hero worship nothing more than propaganda to try and take attention from the mess that is PPE, testing etc.

What I do find off though is the New Zeland Nurse giving interviews about looking after Boris. Patient confidentiality spring to mind and it's all a bit 'look at me.'

ThrowbackMagic · 23/04/2020 16:57

@whiskybysidedoor

I know you didn’t, that’s why I asked.

Do you?

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 16:57

I don’t agree with either of the nurses talking about Boris, he was a patient and whilst they are giving no details about his care I don’t think they are right to be discussing him in the media.

Alsohuman · 23/04/2020 17:01

Maybe he shouldn’t have named them. It was obvious the media would be all over them.

Thighmageddon · 23/04/2020 17:02

It's almost like everybody wants their five minutes of fame in a global pandemic.

gingganggooleywotsit · 23/04/2020 17:03

This is so so depressing. I doubt we would even be discussing this if the daily fail hadn't put it on their site, trolling people. I really do despair. Only on Mumsnet are people so nasty about NHS nurses, never heard such talk in real life. Disgusting.

Tellmetruth4 · 23/04/2020 17:11

I think the dancing is inappropriate under the circumstances. I’ve been a bit Hmm every time I’ve seen these videos on the news.

800 people are dying a day, yes it’s ok to want some light relief but the dancing is foolish and it was doubly foolish to put it on social media. They should’ve known how it would be twisted.

As an aside I also don’t like the regular reports about Johnson being in really good spirits. Yes he should be happy he’s survived but his country is being ravaged. Completely inappropriate.

gingganggooleywotsit · 23/04/2020 17:16

@Tellmetruth4..With respect, It's because of the circumstances, that I don't give a shit about some people dancing. Does it really matter? I have lost people close to me to this virus, and my dh has lost his business..and yet..I am not so bitter and twisted as some that I would begrudge some hard working nurses a bit of fun. Hmm
