I couldn't see another tread on this. But if there is, please link it.

What's your opinion on this? AIBU to think this is in very bad taste?

Crack on. In your own time, not your employer’s. And not while wearing PPE

Do we know it’s not in their own time? What the relevance of PPE is eludes me.

Incorrect. There’s many videos of ITU nurses who the majority of their patients will have covid

Wow, that is even more distasteful.

LunaHardy · 23/04/2020 15:03

@BovaryX not my personal opinion I was just rephrasing because you didn't seem to understand the first time.

BovaryX · 23/04/2020 15:04

I think she may be failing to grasp the part where cancer patients are unable to speak to anyone regarding their treatment, when it will recommence etc, but can watch healthcare workers dancing on Tik Tok

Precisely. Those responsible for deciding to cancel operations must be held acccountable. The enormous backlog this has created will manifest in unnecessary deaths. A recurrent theme. In the rest of the developed world, the health care system is there to protect the patients In the UK, the patients are exhorted to protect the NHS. It's not a coincidence that this is back to front. It's symptomatic of a profound dysfunction in the NHS. Banging pots won't change that.

Alsohuman · 23/04/2020 15:06

Conflating two completely separate issues doesn’t make for a particularly intelligent debate.

username1724 · 23/04/2020 15:06

This literally makes me so mad. I am frontline NHS. Some hospitals are quieter at the moment because they are PROTECTING THE PUBLIC. The hospitals are overrun with covid patients in some areas leaving other areas empty in order to protect those who would have come in for theater or appointments. Staff have been redeployed to balance the staffing levels and give everyone who is poorly the best chance of recovery. We are all still walking into a building full of infected patients every shift. Putting ourselves at risk so people like you have somewhere to go when things get bad. Poor taste is logging onto mumsnet to start a thread about how they should have something better to do when you are sat comfortably at home during lockdown. Maybe when this is over a lot of people would benefit from doing some voluntary work in hospitals.

TwistyHair · 23/04/2020 15:09

I also think it’s inappropriate at this time. I get that they need light relief during their working hours, humour etc. But to be performing whole dance routines like that is insensitive to the people who are worried about not being able to get the care they need. And towards people who have died of covid.

Well if that’s what you read online it must be true, however contrary to that we have a dedicated 24/7 phone line for our cancer patients to call through with any concerns or queries. Our consultants are still seeing any emergency complications but yes surgery is on hold unless it is life or limb saving. I can only speak for my hospital in this though. But again, what does this have to do this staff doing dances? A patient told me that he enjoys seeing the human side to staff. A man with cancer, who’s surgery is on hold because of the virus, so I respect his opinion on it more than someone on Mumsnet.

ThrowbackMagic · 23/04/2020 15:16

I think you have to be a numbskull to believe that this sort of morale-boosting video during a time of unimaginable pressure and fear translates in any way to minimising the gravity of patients’ plights. As username says above, if you’re comfortable enough and have so little to do or worry about that you’re sat at home starting sniping threads like this, then count yourself very lucky.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 15:19

I’m front line emergency services with no PPE. Am I ok to have an opinion then?

Littlebluetruck · 23/04/2020 15:23

I can only speak for my hospital in this though

Exactly. YOUR hospital. Many people are not able to get any information on their treatment whatsoever. And that’s not something which I read online. That is fact.

A patient told me that he enjoys seeing the human side to staff. A man with cancer, who’s surgery is on hold because of the virus, so I respect his opinion on it more than someone on Mumsnet

So, because one patient told you it was enjoyable, that makes it okay. There are many cancer patients not amused by it at all.

bloodyhellsbellsx · 23/04/2020 15:23

@nicknacky come on now don’t twist my words, I didn’t say posters couldn’t have an opinion. I said I was more interested in my patients opinion

Bounceyflouncey · 23/04/2020 15:24

How is thinking that these videos is distasteful mean that you are against nurses etc as a whole? Surely you can think that they are doing a great job in tough circumstances and think that uploading those to social media is stupid and thoughtless.

Nicknacky · 23/04/2020 15:25

Well, it seems be be the jist of some posters that unless you work in ITU then we don’t deserve to have an opinion. Maybe NHS staff need to listen to the difference views of the public about this and take them into consideration?

bloodyhellsbellsx · 23/04/2020 15:26

@Littlebluetruck yes my hospital, but you were speaking as if there’s no help for no one anywhere which is incorrect. Unless we are a patient or working for that trust we don’t know how they are managing services.

I’m sure many people aren’t amused by it, but I’m sure many are, different courses for different horses etc.

Littlebluetruck · 23/04/2020 15:27

How is thinking that these videos is distasteful mean that you are against nurses etc as a whole?

Because too many people think the NHS and it’s staff are and should be beyond reproach.

How did you manage to extrapolate that from a plea for a bit of empathy? NHS staff are busting a gut to look after us through this, not going home, not seeing their families and now they’re expected to bow down to a few killjoys’ opinions as well.

Sweetiepye · 23/04/2020 15:29

The dancing should not be happening as it sends out the wrong message to the public. People can be dying just a few corridors away, but it doesn’t matter as we’re having fun!
Other nurses and doctors are being run ragged, but apparently these ones have so much time on our hands they can learn dance routines!

The biggest bug bear I have is the wearing of PPE when making these videos. There is supposed to be a massive shortness of this, but these idiots think it is acceptable to misuse them. If the hospital runs out of PPE, because all the staff who are just twiddling their fingers are wasting them, I hope they will volunteer to look after the COVID patients without any protection? Don’t say the number used in the video are only a drop in the ocean of the PPE shortfall, because if all staff decided to misuse them like this it will make a huge difference!

TimeForChange123 · 23/04/2020 15:29

From what i've seen on social media (and on a petition) these videos are being seen as evidence that the Government and NHS overreacted and lockdown should be lifted. Lots of posts about empty wards and staff having so much time to lark about.

Which i'm sure wasn't what was intended.

It really isn't just a bit of morale boosting fun, it effects public perception of not just the NHS, but lockdown.

Sweetiepye · 23/04/2020 15:30

Bye the way, I was a nurse, my daughter is a nurse, as are my sister and nieces.

Fuckyoumenopause · 23/04/2020 15:32

Unless the footage shows a patient flat lining in the background being purposefully ignored whilst the nurses get their jollies, leave them bloody well alone.

Bounceyflouncey · 23/04/2020 15:35

I think you meant to put some NHS staff.

It's not about being killjoys though is it, there's this odd religion here that thou shalt not say anything blasphemous about the NHS. Well no, people are entitled to an opinion. Public perception is important when people struggling with lockdown are being told to do so to protect the NHS and then see crap like that. Dance or whatever, don't bloody upload it!
