‘Weaning journey’
‘Breastfeeding journey’
‘Potty training journey’

Omg I’m so sick of the word journey being used like this. It gives me uncontrollable rage.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 10/04/2020 08:17

You need to go on an inner calm journey.

Emcont · 10/04/2020 08:19

But.. they are journeys Hmm

WildRosie · 10/04/2020 08:20

Agreed, it's utter nonsense. To me, a journey is what happens when one physically moves from one place to another.

lastqueenofscotland · 10/04/2020 08:20

yanbu I hate it too.
So twee

Emcont · 10/04/2020 08:21

Mm, on the other hand I'm sick of the word 'Twee' being used on mumsnet. Holier than thou!

Crystal87 · 10/04/2020 08:23

They aren't journeys. A journey is when someone travels to one place to another. These "journeys" they're talking about are just an expression.

Rezie · 10/04/2020 08:23

The Bachelor ruined the word for me.

Fleetheart · 10/04/2020 08:24

We’re all on journey Halo

Dennis269 · 10/04/2020 08:25

Is anyone listening to music right now and if so What music is it?

MouthBreathingRage · 10/04/2020 08:26

I find it’s the go to term used by mummy bloggers or wannabe mummy bloggers.

We didn’t have a potty training journey, it was more like a road trip to hell, where Satan refused to take a shit for 3 days straight Hmm.

nether · 10/04/2020 08:26

It's pretty pants when it's is used as a cancer journey

Sometimes, it's better do do without metaphor

YeahWhatevver · 10/04/2020 08:29

‘Weaning journey’
‘Breastfeeding journey’
‘Potty training journey’

Omg I’m so sick of the word journey being used like this. It gives me uncontrollable rage.

'OMG'
'Omg'
'omg'
'O.M.G.'

I’m so sick of the acronym OMG being used like this. It gives me uncontrollable rage

Lovemornings · 10/04/2020 08:35

Used as a noun, journey can mean an act of travel but it can also mean a long and often difficult process of personal change and development. You start in one place and end in another. What’s the problem?

SpillTheTeaa · 10/04/2020 08:38

Journey doesn't just mean travel.
The word 'twee' fuck right off.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 10/04/2020 08:42

Totes with you OP.
Not all experiences are fucking journeys!!!
Going from my home to Peru - THAT would be a journey.
Breastfeeding my kids is an activity.
Learning to meditate is a hobby.

MotherOfAllNameChanges · 10/04/2020 08:43

Apolz those of you who get the rage from hearing the word totes 😂

Northernsoullover · 10/04/2020 08:46

X Factor and its fucking 'roller coaster of a journey' have a lot to answer for

Annebronte · 10/04/2020 08:55

Agree. It’s an overused metaphor and it makes me cringe too.

thesnackbitch · 10/04/2020 08:56
Biscuit
ladybee28 · 10/04/2020 09:01

I'm not a fan of the word either - hugely overused in my industry and often gives me the cringe when I hear it.

But there are experiences that are really helpful to frame as something where you soak up and learn from each stage, or where focusing on the 'end point' or goal isn't as helpful as trying to fully embrace the messy-middle period.

I just wish there were more ways to name those experiences that reflect that (in one or two words, rather than that ramble I just did above Grin )

Would love alternative suggestions, if anyone's got good ones!

BananaPlant · 10/04/2020 09:08

I hate the term ‘journey’. Why is everything that happened a ‘journey’. People blathering about their ‘breastfeeding’ journey. Or on some reality tv programme tearfully talking about their ‘journey’. Really? Hugely overused and makes me 🙄

CrocodileFondue · 10/04/2020 09:12

Don't stop believing! Wink

BelfastNonBlonde · 10/04/2020 09:13

YNBU. I hate it as well. It’s also not limited to baby stuff..

My Masterchef Journey, our house-hunting/reno journey, my hair colour journey...

CrocodileFondue · 10/04/2020 09:15

I find it's quite handy as an early marker of a pretentious twat. I breastfeed but I don't bang on about it and hearing about your "breastfeeding journey" just makes me note you down as one to avoid in future.

Ginfordinner · 10/04/2020 09:16

No they aren't Emcont Hmm
It is a pretentious term
