The word ‘journey’

Bienentrinkwasser · 10/04/2020 08:14

‘Weaning journey’
‘Breastfeeding journey’
‘Potty training journey’

Omg I’m so sick of the word journey being used like this. It gives me uncontrollable rage.

OP posts:
PandoraRocks · 21/07/2021 21:40

Going forward OP, I don't think we should journey any more but perhaps we should touch base to discuss it Wink.

Somethingsnappy · 21/07/2021 22:05

If I go on a long walk with my baby in the sling, latching on and off at will, does that count as an actual breastfeeding journey?

Dutch1e · 21/07/2021 22:07

I fucking hate it. Every mediocre experience has become a journey.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/07/2021 22:12

Grin Agreed. It's so twee.

AntiWorkBrigade · 21/07/2021 22:19

‘Speak to’ is my personal favourite redundant phrase. It’s not actually awful in the way that reaching out and going on a journey are, but given that it means precisely the same as ‘talk about’ what is the point? It’s like someone somewhere just decided it was time for a change.

Reach out is the worst. Emotionally overwrought - makes me think very specifically of Bob Geldof and Band Aid for some reason. Utterly ridiculous in the context of sending an email to IT support.

AntiWorkBrigade · 21/07/2021 22:21

(I’m talking about people self-importantly declaring that they can or cannot ‘speak to’ a particular topic or point.)

SleepingStandingUp · 21/07/2021 22:22

Don't let this be a rage journey @Bienentrinkwasser , this is time to grow and explore, to be truly blessed and make memories. Make tomorrow the start of your Joy Journey

lokomojo · 21/07/2021 22:25

Why learning journey? What was the matter with course? What do people think course means?

Yesitsbess · 21/07/2021 22:27

We have a car dealership here with the slogan "it's not just a car, it's a journey" and I am so very annoyed at it for being so awful and also a bit clever. Fuming I am.

HowLepsur · 21/07/2021 22:30

Journey is in the same league as
Hon
You do you
Living your best life

HowLepsur · 21/07/2021 22:31

And making memories
Envy

aivilo · 21/07/2021 22:33

@msmith501

Define "uncontrollable rage"... that doesn't sound like a good journey to be on.

😂

DanielTigersMummy21 · 21/07/2021 22:39

All the examples you have given relate to motherhood so YABU. Would you rather women not try to express the life changing nature of motherhood?

FourTeaFallOut · 21/07/2021 22:47

The life changing nature of motherhood cannot be expressed by sticking the word journey on everything that you and your baby does.

EngelbertsRumpispink · 22/07/2021 00:47

And 300 other things, not just realated to motherhood.
It's over-used, seemingly everywhere, and so very irritating!

CiaoForNiao · 22/07/2021 01:07

This thread is a journey to the past.

I had the same thoughts. Why all motherhood examples?

EliyanahM · 07/04/2022 14:12

@WildRosie

Agreed, it's utter nonsense. To me, a journey is what happens when one physically moves from one place to another.
A journey of self discovery Not everything is physical Jeez
daimbarsatemydogsbone · 07/04/2022 14:14

YANBU OP

Gowithme · 07/04/2022 14:27

People apply it to something that other people get on quietly with all the time. They want to make it sound more than it is and to make it sound like they are doing it better or in a more amazing way that deserves loads of attention. Basically they are attention seekers trying to make themselves sound important.

UsernameInTheTown · 07/04/2022 14:34

See also "reach out" and speaking "with" not to. And can I "get" not may I have. All make me irrationally angry.

CounsellorTroi · 07/04/2022 14:36

It’s just a metaphor.

whitewashing · 07/04/2022 14:42

I detest ‘journey’ and ‘super’ everyone is ‘super excited/busy/happy…🤯

EliyanahM · 07/04/2022 14:43

My baby's journey through the NICU
Was a journey, that I didn't post on social media, but still a journey. 126 days of ups and downs, one step aheads and two steps backwards. Terror and joy. So personally I think anyone who told me not to call it a journey because the term annoys them, can fuck right off.

PierresPotato · 07/04/2022 14:44

Yes and a workshop is for carpenters and the like.
