Or am I just being a miserable, grouchy bitch?

It’s an invitation, not a summons. Not my cup of tea at all. But if it will help the extroverts to SI instead of meeting up and flaunting the rules, I’m ok with it... I suppose.

I said YABU because it’s an invitation. But I can’t read the small print. If I could, maybe I would vote the other way.

Deathraystare · 04/04/2020 07:30

@Fuckyoumenopause

Oh dear! Once again I was clueless as to why fireworks were going off. In my defence, I rarely watch the news now. I avoided it as much as poss through Brexit and now I really don't want to know what is happening!

Barnowl25 · 04/04/2020 07:40

Love a bit of S Club 7 - I shall dance most likely on my own as my neighbours are grumpy but the dogs will bark along and the sheep will run round thinking wtf is she doing now and I will feel happy. Which is what it is all about really.

Greggers2017 · 04/04/2020 07:43

It's getting silly now.
Some people are also finding it embarrassing. I went to Aldi on my lunch break on Wednesday to pick up some bits. I was wearing my NHS lanyard and ID badge and someone in the queue saw and told me I had to go in first. That was embarrassing in itself, what was worse was that the whole queue Clapped as I walked to the front. It was mortifying.
I only work in substance misuse 😳

Iwantedthat · 04/04/2020 07:46

@Greggers2017
Sorry that made me laugh, I would be mortified if that happened to me, my face just blushed for you. Blush
Bet you forgot what you went in for

Apirateslifeforme · 04/04/2020 07:53

@Greggers2017
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Grin
I bet you were mortified Haha. Thats made me laugh.

Prawnvolauxvent · 04/04/2020 07:57

I have just received a ‘poster’ via WhatsApp saying tomorrow at 3pm we have to clap for our children seeing as they have been so good at staying in.

SpratsOnParade · 04/04/2020 08:07

Fuck no, if anyone in my street attempts this I shall be blasting some Rammstein out of my window.

I hope that you live in my street. I'd be overjoyed if someone played Rammstein.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/04/2020 08:11

That photo ^ of the searchlight projector reminds me so much of the Mockingjay Books’ and Films’ daily death count.

Here in Italy there’s the daily announcement at 18:30 on TV by the Civil Protection Organisation of infected, recovered and dead. In our house we maintain a respectful silence.

At least they have the decency to give total figures and leave the grisly daily maths to others.

AmelieTaylor · 04/04/2020 08:12

@Greggers2017👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Doesn’t matter -I expect you’ll be run off your feet, possibly not for a while though, but possibly with people who haven’t been social distancing. Take care 🌷

SnowStag · 04/04/2020 08:19

well- the clapping is 'for something'.

I think the dancing is just for a bit of a laugh.

No, no-one is expected to do it. It is a way of falling about having a laugh while drinking.

PineappleDanish · 04/04/2020 08:21

Absolutely no way would I be doing this. Cringe-tastic. Whatever the musical choice.

Postspecific · 04/04/2020 08:22

No, Wendy, we haven’t danced together in the 16 years since we moved in and we’re not about to now. If you think that a quick bogle on the doorstep is going to make up for your very loud swingers party in August 2015 then you are sadly mistaken.

ipswichwitch · 04/04/2020 08:23

Jesus all this “shine a light to fight corona” stuff. How about people just do what they’re meant to and stay the fuck in their houses, that’ll actually help fight corona.
I’m going to join in on the miserable, grouchy bitch bench. DS2 is autistic and had a meltdown at the last clapping session because some fuckwit was outside blowing a whistle and an air horn app on his phone 🙄. Funnily enough though, he’d appreciate some Rammstein.....

Meirou90 · 04/04/2020 08:23

Fuck me, we’re a nation of morons. YANBU

MarginalGain · 04/04/2020 08:24

I hate the new cheerful lockdown culture that has emerged. What a compliant, unquestioning country the UK has become.

dudsville · 04/04/2020 08:25

I think this is a culturally adjusted extension of what the Italians have done with the courtyard based flats, which looked communal and fun. I've also seen a video of this in a city in the states and it looked fun.

My street however is very small and these kinds of things are just awkward as they don't translate well to this setting. So it's bit so much as a face palm or cringe, it just doesn't really work.

SnowStag · 04/04/2020 08:26

Or maybe people are trying to make the best of it all (and are slightly bored).

It's not all a conspiracy. Or indeed even a directive.

OscarWildesCat · 04/04/2020 08:27

Hmm YANBU OP, someone I know shared a, "clap for the kids" thing on SM yesterday to, "celebrate the kids, who have had their lives turned upside down and dealt with it so well". At this rate, I may as well just live on my bloody doorstep!

BruceAndNosh · 04/04/2020 08:27

The country is in a bad enough way already. The hospitals wouldn't be able to cope with the influx of self harm cases if my neighbours had to watch me trying to dance to bloody S Club 7

Whoareyoudududu · 04/04/2020 08:27

S Club 7 are so cringe at the best of times Grin.

diddl · 04/04/2020 08:30

I wonder how community minded these people are usually?

There are certain people that I'm missing, so dancing on the doorstep wouldn't help that.

Funnily enough when daughter & I took the dog out last night we danced down the street!

AliciaJohnson · 04/04/2020 08:34

@GlummyMcGlummerson Grin

GameofPhones · 04/04/2020 08:35

Fine as long as they don't start stigmatising the introverts or anyone else who doesn't want to do it.

cantata · 04/04/2020 08:36

Yet more good sense from @MarginalGain (am not turning into a stalker, honestly: just that sensible posts are thin on the ground on here at the moment, so I tend to notice them).
