I won't be dancing's on my doorstep or clapping for the kids or singing for shop workers or whatever idea they come up with next. I will be socially distancing with my family in the privacy of our back garden with the occasional chat over the fence with neighbours.

Actually shall we invent a new one lets all have a large gin / wine / beer every night at 7pm for surviving another day of madness - to be done inside not on your fucking doorstep!!!

MarginalGain · 04/04/2020 08:40

Hi cantata. We really should have moved in together before the lockdown, we could scream at the TV together all day long. It would be so fun.

Hope you're doing well.

SoupDragon · 04/04/2020 08:41

I hate the new cheerful lockdown culture that has emerged. What a compliant, unquestioning country the UK has become.

Whilst I hate forced cheerfulness, the "compliant and unquestioning" bit is plain stupid. do you think we should be all out mingling and spreading it then? There 's nothing sensible about your post at all.

AmputatedSoul · 04/04/2020 08:42

This is the kind of thing my neighbours would do.

They haven't left the house for weeks but they've had a different visitor going in on a daily basis!! Yesterday there were 6 kids on their trampoline all from different houses on the street.
I mean really, they make the most noise at these clapping events when it's dickheads like them putting the strain on the NHS in the first place!

I don't clap and I certainly don't dance.
I do social distance myself though and it's my DDs birthday tomorrow and we're having no visitors.
That's how we show our support.

helgahelga · 04/04/2020 08:43

@Fuckyoumenopause

I am genuinely all for the Thursday night clapping for a few minutes once a week, for all the key workers, but anything more than that (banging pots, fireworks, hollering like banshees etc,) is grating on me somewhat.

And THIS? Dancing on your frickin' doorstep?! I have seen people doing this (on the news,) and it just looks so naff IMO. (I haven't seen anyone in my village doing it though. We have all just been doing the clapping.) Smile

But yeah, the dancing on the doorstep is really cheesy IMO!

Maybe I am just a grumpy old moo! Grin

BeyondMyWits · 04/04/2020 08:43

Clapping/singing/dancing/torch - yeah... really helps...

If you have key-workers for neighbours - how about going and cutting their grass when you do yours? Tidying up the hedges? Washing the car? They haven't the time to.

Greggers2017 · 04/04/2020 08:44

@AmelieTaylor it's really sad to be honest. We've been told to only see our most chaotic cases and emergencies, face to face. How do you chose them. The majority of people on my caseload have other issues as well, mental health, domestic violence, homelessness, social care involvement. We have been giving telephone support as much as possible.
Saddest part is we've been told to expect deaths. Overdoses are going to rise, so are seizures from alcohol withdrawal and suicide attempts. Heartbreaking really.

I was extremely embarrassed with Aldi though, there were old people and people with children in the queue too, who I believed should have gone before me! 🤦🏼‍♀️

@TimeAintNothing fireworks????

well lets hope they don't cause an accident and put more strain on the emergency services and NHS
some people really are incredibly dim

Some complete idiot round here set off a distress flare. Result? The coastguard search and rescue helicopter was called out

emmathedilemma · 04/04/2020 08:50

Feeling quite grateful that our doorsteps are within 2 metres of each other!! ;)

MinorArcana · 04/04/2020 08:52

Dancing on the doorstep is definitely not something I’d do unless I was forced to, but surely there’s no harm in it if other people want to do it?

If it makes some people feel a bit better about being socially isolated I think it’s fine.
As long as the doors are far enough apart, and as long as there’s no attempts to shame people who don’t take part for whatever reason.

FredaFrogspawn · 04/04/2020 08:55

Clapping is nice for us but it doesn’t help NHS or care workers one iota. We should be campaigning or collecting to make sure every minimum wage worker get a a bonus in their pay for the next three months.

FredaFrogspawn · 04/04/2020 08:55

Dancing ditto.

madcatladyforever · 04/04/2020 08:58

I think it's good fun for isolation weary people or people living on their own. I can imagine there are lots of people out there who are really fed up with a capital F and this does provide a bit of light relief.
Nice for kids too to burn off some energy outdoors.
I won't be doing it as it's not my cup of tea but that's ok too.

Rosiejim · 04/04/2020 08:59

Just dun some sick in me mouth.

madcatladyforever · 04/04/2020 09:00

Fireworks though, a big fat NO - wildlife is coming out in droves to enjoy the people free environment so why don't we scare the bejeezus out of them and our pets every other night for no fucking reason.

Pack that shit in.

PutThemInTheIronMaiden · 04/04/2020 09:03

TheSultanofPingu · 04/04/2020 09:08

I agree madcatlady. The fireworks are pissing me right off.

Knackerelli · 04/04/2020 09:10

Where I live they are trying to get everybody outside tomorrow, in the sunshine, to play their instruments to cheer everyone up. I’m not miserable but hearing drums, recorders, violins and god knows what else being played badly when I’m trying to chill in my garden will wind me up! The peace and quiet is the best thing about this lockdown.

Twerking9to5 · 04/04/2020 09:20

I don’t think of myself as grumpy but, seeing as I’m enjoying this thread more than any other at the moment, I might have to have a rethink

cantata · 04/04/2020 09:22

@MarginalGain I'd rather be locked down with you than with my teenagers. Grin

shuuush · 04/04/2020 09:26

Apparently yesterday was "shine a light to fight corona" you were supposed to go out in your garden a d wave a torch at the sky at 8.30 🤦🏻‍♀️
