What is the correct term for circular square sausage?

Also - what difference does the shape of it make?

I prefer the circular kind although the rectangular kind is acceptable, too.

Scottish borders here. Lorne sausage. Never round. Can we cancel the cheque yet?

There seems to be a positive wealth of descriptors WRT square sausage/lorne sausage/round slice/square slice/circular square sausage.

Personally I eat them all indiscriminately.

Square, slice sausage, lorne or my personal favourite i use at work sometimes oblong sausage because technically its not square at all 😂

Lorne sausage on the east coast, it was called square sausage when I lived in Glasgow.

Our local bakery used to do hot filled rolls with the round sausage. We called it slice sausage. Couldn't beat it with some black pudding and brown sauce 😋

Since DH and I have been self-isolating for twelve weeks, the village volunteers have been doing our shopping. These people are brave and kind.

However - when I ask them to go to the butcher's shop, I ask them to buy me "circular square sausage" and two of them have been puzzled.

I once asked the butcher why he made them in different shapes and he said some people preferred the circular sausage.

Lorne sausage is beef sausage.

East Coat here- "slice sausage" , Lorne or square for the other.

It's SLICE. Not sliced sausage, square slice, square sausage and definitely NOT lorne. It's just... slice. At least it is round here anyway. ;)

Yeah actually we say slice. I was going to say that first, but then started to doubt myself and thought maybe I have been hearing it wrong all these years 😂 didn't want to look like a tumshie 😉

Its square sausage if its square, never seen it round - I would call that a burger 😂

No self-respecting Scottish butcher would stoop that low.

They might have opening hours which are impossible to understand but the sausage is generally First Class, notwithstanding its shape.

DH and I are self-isolating and the village volunteers are very kindly doing our shopping for us.

I gave one woman my shopping list and she was bewildered by "circular square sausage".

She got it,, though, and failed to enlighten me as to the correct terminology.

I love square sausage.

We call it a round slice in my family.

A "roll n sausage" would get you a bread roll and square sausage. Lorne saussfe I always thought has a slightly different taste .. I like steak sausage myself . OMG a roll n sausage is good of the Gods 😂

I imagine I'd call it "that weird round lorne". But it's not something I've ever bought, or ever intend buying!

Square sausage is Lorne, round square sausage is sliced sausage.
I love both.

The van near me does amazing rolls with everything on them.
Of course it's closed and I'm not able to go out for another 11 weeks though.

Square sausage. There is no such thing as round sliced sausage, it's a myth.
