What is the correct term for circular square sausage?

Also - what difference does the shape of it make?

I prefer the circular kind although the rectangular kind is acceptable, too.

I gave one woman my shopping list and she was bewildered by "circular square sausage".

That has made me laugh- the "circular square sausasage" was a childhood favourite- they still sell it here in Tesco and Lidl, made by local suppliers.
My auntie would come to visit us every year from London ( she moved when she married) and would go back with a case stuffed with both types- and white puddings.

There must be strict export controls on this delicacy that is Lorne/square/circular square/slice/sliced cos I’ve never seen it in East of England

sufferingsandra · 28/03/2020 08:31

It’s a square sausage.

Otherwise you’re getting a roll and links.

ThatPairOfCats · 28/03/2020 08:43

Flat sausage. I've never ever seen a round flat sausage. Link sausages just sausages.

PineappleDanish · 28/03/2020 09:02

When I first met my future MIL she called me Scotch. Hmm Reminded her that "Scotch" only applied to eggs, whisky and mist. (May have had a couple of glasses of wine, and she's never said it since)

TheMustressMhor · 28/03/2020 10:50

When DH and I lived in London we were deprived of many Scottish delicacies.

For example:

No morning rolls

No square sausage

No circular square sausage

No Stornoway black pudding (yum yum yum yum)

No fruit pudding

Almost no haggis

No bannocks

No bridies

I'm sure I've missed some things out but that's the basic list.

DH and I moved back to Scotland three years ago and we are so happy to have all these things back on the table.

No stovies!

Scots is fine, Scotch is bloody not fine!

Scotch is a drink! Tsk

ScotsinOz · 28/03/2020 11:04

Square sausage - I love it and now I’m starving for it as we’ve not had it for ages 🤤 Being round would not fit as nicely on bread.

TheMustressMhor · 28/03/2020 11:45

DH says he can fit more of it on the grill pan if it is circular.

This is arrant nonsense IMO.

Using the word Scots the way you did is offensive. We are Scottish. I am a Scot, there can be many Scots, but we are not Scots the way you used it. Just saying.

dementedpixie · 28/03/2020 14:29

Sorry but I'm not offended in the slightest. OP herself is Scottish too

MonkeyDishwasher · 28/03/2020 14:41

Good for you, I am. Doesn't matter if the OP is Scottish or not, it's still an incorrect use of the word, and is usually only used that way by ignorant Englanders.

dementedpixie · 28/03/2020 14:52

You're easily offended then

MonkeyDishwasher · 28/03/2020 14:56

Or maybe you are just an apologist with no self respect?

dementedpixie · 28/03/2020 15:02

Whatever

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 28/03/2020 15:24

Tricky waters now... I am reminded of the Argentine/Argentinians debate from the Falklands War. The country is Argentina, or The Argentine to anglophones; the people are Argentine, not Argentinian.

According to my dear departed Dad anyway, for whom Argentina was very close to his heart.

They don't eat square sausage, or even round square sausage though.

SolemnlySwear2010 · 28/03/2020 15:54

From my butchers website, the round one is made from pork and is simply called ' a pork round' the other is made from beef and is the standard ' square sausage'

Also - I'm from Glasgow

TheMustressMhor · 28/03/2020 16:03

"Scots" is a plural noun for the people of Scotland.

Including me.

BelleharePenguin09 · 28/03/2020 16:28

ignorant Englanders.

Ooh you are a charmer.

BelleharePenguin09 · 28/03/2020 16:29

Dishwasher, are you a linguist?

Lordfrontpaw · 28/03/2020 16:32

I have never seen round Lorne sausage. That’s just wrong!

Lordfrontpaw · 28/03/2020 16:34

I thought I saw some in a shop today and got quite excited (I’m in England and don’t think I’ve ever seen square sausage down here). Turns out it was a fancy corned beef in a vacuum pack.

dancerdog · 28/03/2020 16:37

I'd probably all it a round square slice sausage, just to make it clear.
