AIBU to hate chicken wings?

What is the point? No meat on them and flaccid skin covered in a flavouring that is impossible to appreciate as you have to discard the skin because it is FLACID. Who wants to eat chewy fat?

I LOVE crispy skin on a roast chicken but how can anyone eat chicken wings with non crispy skin? Urgh X 100.

I am yet to encounter a chicken wing that is entirely edible. In the last week have had chicken wing from restaurant (not my choice but tried one) and a homemade one bought to a get together. Both had FLACID skin and literally no meat on them.

Chicken is my favourite meat but I just don't get wings. Why do people like them? 🤮

Homemade wings with nandos peri peri seasoning powder are yummy. Cook on a rack over a tray in the oven until the skin is crispy.

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 28/02/2020 08:20

Soft chicken skin is always gross, not just on wings. But it sounds to me like you just haven't had a good wing yet. I marinate wings overnight in my own homemade piri piri sauce (homemade sauce has 100 times more flavour), bake the wings in the oven until they're mostly cooked through and finish them off on a charcoal barbecue so they get a crispy, smokey and delicious.

Puppybum · 28/02/2020 08:24

My DD would happily live off them, I roast them with lots of salt until they are super crispy, you have to drain the fat off

Honeyned · 28/02/2020 08:24

I hate them too! What's the point?

LuluBellaBlue · 28/02/2020 08:25

Agree - they’re foul Grin

isseywith4vampirecats · 28/02/2020 08:25

Agree too much effort for literally one bite of actual chicken meat

SunshineAvenue · 28/02/2020 08:26

So these are all homemade options, if done right you can get crispy skin but there is NO MEAT literally half a mouthful. Why bother?

Why do restaurants serve you with soft fat??

Bastards

Where are you eating them that the skin is flaccid? That sounds gross. Chicken wings however, correctly cooked and seasoned, are lovely.

SudokuQueen · 28/02/2020 08:30

You're right. I hate chicken wings. Everyone says the meat is great, it's just not. It's disgusting.

slashlover · 28/02/2020 08:30

YANBU to dislike any food. FFS!

unchienandalusia · 28/02/2020 08:31

Yabu. Chicken wings, done properly, are fabulous. Crispy skin and flavourful meat. Cheap as chips too x

MySonIsAlsoNamedBort · 28/02/2020 08:32

They are okay.
I don't understand why there are whole restaurants dedicated to them and some people get so excited about them though.

Lycidas · 28/02/2020 08:33

They absolutely have to be charcoal barbecued. Any other method of cooking risks limpness.

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 28/02/2020 08:35

They do have a bit of meat on them, but the crispy skin is probably the main thing people eat wings for Grin

How about eating turkey wings, then? They are much bigger than chicken wings.

lowlandLucky · 28/02/2020 08:37

I just dont get why people pay good money for nothing

nornironrock · 28/02/2020 08:37

Not only are you not being unreasnable, you are being entirely, and without exception, correct.

Wings are the most ridiculous food item ever put on a plate. The work:meat ratio is waaaaaay off, and they simply aren't good enough to warrant the work.

There is also nothing more disgusting than the sight of a fellow diner with the detritus from eating them all over their fingers/hands. Makes me want to hurl.

(Aaaaaand exhale)

fussychica · 28/02/2020 08:51

Pointless.

If1knewiwouldnotbehere · 28/02/2020 08:53

Sounds like you dont know how to cook them.

ShirleyPhallus · 28/02/2020 08:56

I’d take the chips instead then thanks

edwinbear · 28/02/2020 08:58

Buffalo wings, at Kelsey's in Fernie ski resort, Canada are a thing of beauty. Big fat juicy things, crispy, deep fried skin, hot sauce, blue cheese dip and a token stick of celery/carrot to make it healthy.....YABVU if you've not had theirs Grin

Babdoc · 28/02/2020 08:58

I must admit, they’re the bit of the chicken I leave til last, and they usually end up just thrown into the stock pan to boil up for soup with the rest of the carcass. That way, I can skim all the fat off and ditch the bones before serving the soup.
There’s much more skin for crisping on the rest of the bird!

ILikeyourHairyHands · 28/02/2020 08:59

I make amazing buffalo wings. You need to maridade them overnight and then deep-fry them, hot sauce and blue-cheese dip. Succulent morsels of meat, crispy, salty skin.

It's the tastiest bit of the whole chicken, don't you rip one off and eat it before you serve a roast chicken?

You've just not had a good one!

IdleLiz · 28/02/2020 08:59

Agree they are vile. All that effort for a mingy bit of chicken.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 28/02/2020 09:00

It's the fat/meat/skin ratio that makes them to delicious. They do need to be hot and crisy though.
