AIBU to hate chicken wings?

What is the point? No meat on them and flaccid skin covered in a flavouring that is impossible to appreciate as you have to discard the skin because it is FLACID. Who wants to eat chewy fat?

I LOVE crispy skin on a roast chicken but how can anyone eat chicken wings with non crispy skin? Urgh X 100.

I am yet to encounter a chicken wing that is entirely edible. In the last week have had chicken wing from restaurant (not my choice but tried one) and a homemade one bought to a get together. Both had FLACID skin and literally no meat on them.

Chicken is my favourite meat but I just don't get wings. Why do people like them? 🤮

You must try Pho Chicken Wings (Seasoned, crispy chicken wings served with sriracha). They are the absolute best, I have literally salivated on to the table waiting for them to be served. They are unbelievable

Sonichu · 28/02/2020 11:19

OK?? you're allowed to not like things.

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 28/02/2020 12:18

ArtemisOfOrtygia What's your piri piri recipe?? Please
@Rhumba, my recipe is as following:

  • 2 red chili peppers
  • 1 green chili pepper (or 1 extra red chili pepper)
  • 1 small to medium sized onion (any colour)
  • 3-5 cloves of garlic (depends on how much you like garlic)
  • 3-4 teaspoons of paprika powder (smoked or regular, doesn't matter)
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • App. 80 ml of vinegar (any kind, really. I personally just use normal white vinegar)
  • Optional: A splash of water

Just chuck all ingredients in a blender until everything is blended into a pretty smooth sauce / marinade. Add water according to preference: If the sauce is too thick, add water little by little until you're happy with the consistency. That's it Grin

ArtemisOfOrtygia · 28/02/2020 12:20

@Rhumba
I forgot to mention dried oregano! About a teaspoon of dried oregano. Optional: ½ teaspoon dried basil. Sometimes I add the basil, sometimes I don't.

Rhumba · 28/02/2020 12:54

@ArtemisOfOrtygia Thank you! that might just be tonight sorted. :-)

DinaCaliente · 28/02/2020 13:51

I do chicken wings in my airfryer and they come out lovely and crispy.

buttermilkwaffles · 28/02/2020 13:59

"It's the tastiest bit of the whole chicken, "

No, the 'oysters' are, especially on a whole roasted chicken. Apparently some people leave them on the carcass and then throw it away....aaaaargh!
food52.com/blog/23238-best-part-of-roast-chicken-what-are-chicken-oysters

Next tastiest bit is the thighs.

Ninkanink · 28/02/2020 14:29

Oh yes the oysters are very nice.

But if you like crispy skin then the wings are definitely the best bit (as long as they’re cooked right), as the skin/fat to meat ratio is so high.

lazylinguist · 28/02/2020 14:32

YANBU. It's possible to get them crispy, but what's the point for a mouthful of meat? Use the same flavourings but on chicken thighs- much better!

Oblomov20 · 28/02/2020 14:35

Agreed. Hate them. Irrespective of what the skin is like, there literally no meat. So what's the point. I like chicken legs. Lots of soft juicy meat.

malificent7 · 28/02/2020 14:39

Yanbu....ewwwwww!

SunshineAvenue · 28/02/2020 14:40

Audacityofhope shitty pants that's embarrassing, can't cook crispy chicken wings and now can't spell flaccid Blush Blush

NY might be a bit far. Maybe. Pho chicken wings from where?

Everyone in RL raves about them wherever they get them from, do people just not care about non crispy skin?

Love the oysters. I like a juicy breast (smirk) intact all of the chicken except the wings, oh and the feet.

I want roast chicken now with crispy skin.

Buffalo Chicken Wings
Season flour - add a bit of what you fancy - salt, pepper, onion salt, celery salt, garlic granules, oregano, chilli powder.
Dip wings into seasoned flour a couple of times.
Place wings on a grid set over a baking tray. Spray wings with a little oil.
Roast.
They’ll come out with crispy skin.
Empty a bottle of Franks hot sauce into a small pan and add a knob of butter. Gently heat through then pour over the cooked wings.
Serve with carrot and celery sticks and ranch sauce.
Yummy.

AudacityOfHope · 28/02/2020 17:51

Well I've never attempted to cook wings @SunshineAvenue so I should also be ashamed Grin

GoatyGoatyMingeMinge · 28/02/2020 18:06

They always seem like you're eating the remains of some old chicken carcass that someone has pulled out of the bin.

And what the hell are ribs? I don't intend to start gnawing on bones for morsels until there's a proper apocalypse.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/02/2020 18:10

I'm going to put some in the air-fryer now in a minute. You've all made me want chicken wings...

EerieSilence · 28/02/2020 18:17

Buffalo wings, the marinade so spicy it makes your eyes water. Crispy skin. Sweet potato fries. Blue cheese dips.
I could eat that every day.

Durgasarrow · 28/02/2020 18:22

Chicken wings are garbage food that some smart marketers have succeeded in passing off as a treat.

Lunaballoon · 28/02/2020 18:31

Cooked properly, chicken wings are lovely. Much more delicate and succulent than drumsticks IMHO. Sounds like you need to practice OP.

SnowyPetals · 28/02/2020 18:34

Eew, chicken wings are really unpleasant!

MoonlightMistletoe · 28/02/2020 18:39

If you don't like the KFC suggestion then I'm guessing you don't like Morley's either Grin

CorianderLord · 28/02/2020 18:57

I mean you're eating shit wings if you have to remove the skin but I agree that all meat is gross.

Lynda07 · 28/02/2020 19:02

You're not unreasonable to not like anything, we all have different tastes when it comes to food. Personally I love barbecued and spicy chicken wings and there is a fair bit of meat on them but you need quite a few. Yum, I could eat some now.

However there are lots of things I would never eat.

Don't worry about it.
