AIBU to hate chicken wings?

What is the point? No meat on them and flaccid skin covered in a flavouring that is impossible to appreciate as you have to discard the skin because it is FLACID. Who wants to eat chewy fat?

I LOVE crispy skin on a roast chicken but how can anyone eat chicken wings with non crispy skin? Urgh X 100.

I am yet to encounter a chicken wing that is entirely edible. In the last week have had chicken wing from restaurant (not my choice but tried one) and a homemade one bought to a get together. Both had FLACID skin and literally no meat on them.

Chicken is my favourite meat but I just don't get wings. Why do people like them? 🤮

KFC hot wings are simply the best.

AlCalavicci · 28/02/2020 09:08

I do like them , I roast a load then when I want to eat them uaually just as a snack ) i stick them under a very hot grill and reheat and crisp the skin , I would BBQ them but its to much faffing for a few wings.

I also use the meat in things like omelettes , soup, stir fry's etc .

Chicken thighs on the other hand are the dogs ( chickens ?? ) do dahs

SunshineAvenue · 28/02/2020 09:09

If1knewiwouldnotbehere the only wings I've ever cooked have been attached to a whole chicken and DH eats them. I would never buy wings and cook them because I have Never had a nice one EVER anywhere.

Where does one go in the UK to get a decent wing, I'm up for conversion.

Actualhornist don't believe you.

SunshineAvenue · 28/02/2020 09:11

Also, they never look like wings. Whenever someone has ordered them when out they look like bumpy skinny thighs. Where is the wing shape?

They are too much work for a tiny bit of meat, I don't get the hype around them Confused

Binterested · 28/02/2020 09:14

Agree. Also hate ribs. Hate nibbly things you have to gnaw at. They make me feel like a rat.

AlCalavicci · 28/02/2020 09:15

@SunshineAvenue
The ones roasted on a whole bird are a bit meh , its impossible to get the oven hot enough to crisp the skin on the wings with out cremating the whole bird , plus they are normally sat in the juices that come off the bird as its roasting ( depending on which way up you cook it )
it you buy a box of fresh wings ( even I wont eat the frozen ones) and roast then grill them they will be better imo

SunshineAvenue · 28/02/2020 09:21

I refuse to buy and cook them at home myself because (a) I'm not a great cook (b) don't have a BBQ (c) don't want to clean grill after and/or have chicken fat deposits on grill elements ruining all future attempts at using oven because of plumes of smoke.

I want a crispy meaty wing that tastes amazing because I really want to understand what all the fuss is about.

Where in the UK is this possible? (ignoring KFC suggestion)

Fair enough Smile

I can't help you with where to buy them when eating out , I agree it is hard to find good ones , I am not keen on kfc either.

ThePants999 · 28/02/2020 10:40

ForestYeti · 28/02/2020 10:40

They’re disgusting I can’t stand any meat with bones left in

AudacityOfHope · 28/02/2020 10:42

Stop shouting FLACCID you weirdo. Or at least spell it right before kicking off about it Grin

LettertoHermoine · 28/02/2020 10:43

They are poxy...

FizzyIce · 28/02/2020 10:43

Yabu, not all chicken wings are like that .
Hot wings from kfc are crispy and delicious , when they’re deep fried they’re not “flaccid” they’re heaven sent

FizzyIce · 28/02/2020 10:45

b) don't have a BBQ (c) don't want to clean grill after and/or have chicken fat deposits on grill elements ruining all future attempts at using oven because of plumes of smoke.
A small pan and deep fry them .. why are you making it sound so difficult?

edwinbear · 28/02/2020 10:45

Nandos then if you can't face KFC, their wing roulette.

ThePolishWombat · 28/02/2020 10:47

I agree that I would choose to eat a chicken wing. Too many bones. Pointless amount of meat.
But they do have their purpose in my house!! I cook a whole chicken in the slow cooker, with an onion, a carrot, a leek and a splash of water. Cook it for about 8 hours on low, then remove the chicken and finish it in the oven to crisp up the skin. After 8 hours in the pot, 9 times out of 10, the wings have fallen off and stuck to the bottom, practically melting all the fat and meat off of them. So I use a potato masher to smash up all the vegetables and the bones/meat/skin from the wings, sieve the mush and use the liquid to make my gravy. It’s beautiful Grin

Ninkanink · 28/02/2020 10:47

Oh I love chicken wings done right. Crispy skin, delicate meat, and the fact that you only get one mouthful makes it even better - you are obliged to savour every beautiful little morsel!

ThePolishWombat · 28/02/2020 10:49

Wouldn’t*

SockQueen · 28/02/2020 10:52

YANBU. Way too high effort:food ratio. Plus I hate eating meat off the bone, can just about tolerate a drumstick but wings have way too much greasy icky bone/skin involved.

Rhumba · 28/02/2020 10:52

@ArtemisOfOrtygia What's your piri piri recipe?? Please

Ninkanink · 28/02/2020 11:00

I’ve recently found a recipe that apparently makes the most deliciously crispy wings. You coat them in baking powder and cook them on a low heat first to draw out the moisture and then on a high heat to crispen. I’m so looking forward to trying it next week and I shall report back straightaway!

Frariedeamin · 28/02/2020 11:01

You need to go to Buffalo, NY. Best chicken wings EVER. They are deep fried! Nom!

Ninkanink · 28/02/2020 11:01

Mmmm hot wings. I could do with a KFC today.
