Never have flea invested child round again

Bloodyhellgirls · 10/02/2020 10:49

Had a child round for a playdate who brought with her fleas. I saw one on her. Now our house is being sprayed and I'm worried about the chemicals and my baby. I'm so annoyed. Am I being reasonable to never have him over again, I kind of feel sorry for the child

You saw a flea on a child in your house and you assume the child brought it?

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 10/02/2020 10:51

Are you sure that they were fleas and not lice? Do you have pets, could they have come from them on to her?

Goatinthegarden · 10/02/2020 10:51

Well. It’s definitely not the child’s fault. What did the parent/guardian have to say about it?

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/02/2020 10:52

I feel ya. I stopped sending mine to their ah that dog filled house because they cane back with so many bites - but she insisted it wasn't her dogs they don't have fleas Hmm
Just keep an eye out for any hopping about, treatments are pretty effective

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/02/2020 10:52

*aunty's not ah that 🙄

garbagegirl · 10/02/2020 10:53

her and a him? hmm...

How could you possibly be 100% sure that the flea didn't enter your home in some other way and jump ONTO the poor kid.

I do hope that you haven't been outspoken about this in front of your child. Kids can be cruel and IF this childs homelife is under par he/she doesn't need the additional stress.
As for whether you should have him/her over again, no I don't think you should.

justcly · 10/02/2020 10:54

I'm more concerned that the child has apparently spontaneously changed sex during the course of your post.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 10/02/2020 10:56

Fleas can lay dormant in carpets. It’s possible they were in your home and have started waking up.

TheMustressMhor · 10/02/2020 10:56

If you're going to make up a story it helps if you stick to the same pronouns, OP.

TheMustressMhor · 10/02/2020 10:57

Infested OP.

Not invested.

Walnutwhipster · 10/02/2020 10:57

Powerful fleas changing a child's sex.

cricketmum84 · 10/02/2020 10:57

Don't be ridiculous. Fleas do not live on people. It's probably come from your house.

Follow the instructions properly on the flea household treatment and your child will be fine. As long as he/she survives a lifetime of judgy mum.

JRUIN · 10/02/2020 10:58

I'd be very surprised if the flea remained on this child all the way from her house to yours. Are you sure it's not you with the flea problem?

RitaHayworthHair · 10/02/2020 10:59

Is this a bit like the flea circus Michael Bentine had?

Can I invest too?

JacquesHammer · 10/02/2020 10:59

Am I being reasonable to never have him over again

Definitely don't have the flea over again. What does he think you're running, a circus?

moggiemonster · 10/02/2020 11:01

I was accused of being the cause of a flea/insect bite a school 'friend' got outside of school. My regularly flea treated cats had obviously given me a flea which had stayed on me for a 2 mile walk to school and then waited until I was next to this girl at some point in the day, hopped on to her, ridden a couple of miles home with her before feasting on her that night. It clearly does happen although not all the time as the hungry flea never bit anyone who came to our house. Clearly only the flea with wander-lust.

iklboo · 10/02/2020 11:01

I think you need to read up on how fleas work.

Bloodyhellgirls · 10/02/2020 11:01

Pronouns mixed up in an attempt to protect identities. Of course I haven't said anything to the child, I feel compassion for this kid. Definitely came from childs house as they have cats. We dont have any. Childs mum mentioned fleas on cat a while back but I thought a person wouldnt carry them around. I see I'm wrong.

You “kind of” feel sorry for a child with fleas? Hmm

GinnyStrupac · 10/02/2020 11:02

I would certainly like to give the OP a flea in the ear.

karencantobe · 10/02/2020 11:02

Are having fleas a fetish?

TheFaerieQueene · 10/02/2020 11:03

saraclara · 10/02/2020 11:04

Definitely came from childs house as they have cats.
Fleas do not remain on humans.
