Never have flea invested child round again

Bloodyhellgirls · 10/02/2020 10:49

Had a child round for a playdate who brought with her fleas. I saw one on her. Now our house is being sprayed and I'm worried about the chemicals and my baby. I'm so annoyed. Am I being reasonable to never have him over again, I kind of feel sorry for the child

Oh deary me
The OP had a flea
She salted it
And peppered it
And had it for her tea.

Littlefish · 10/02/2020 11:10

We had no cats or other pets, but managed to acquire fleas. Dd was about 2 at the time. We hadn't had any visitors for at least a week.

No idea how they got into the house, but I certainly didn't go around blaming anyone or banning anyone from my house. These things just happen sometimes. You are over reacting.

Hoppinggreen · 10/02/2020 11:11

Fleas don’t live on humans and 1 is hardly infested
Get a bloody grip

Mittens030869 · 10/02/2020 11:12

This is nonsense, OP. I have cats, and yes occasionally I'm late with the stronghold and end up with a flea bite (very itchy, ouch!), but my DDs don't have fleas spotted in their hair at school or at friends' houses. Humans don't carry fleas into other people's houses.

You can get fleas in sand too.

Buy a hazmat suit from amazon.

Tartyflette · 10/02/2020 11:21

Cat fleas and dog fleas do not live on humans , however there IS a flea which can, the human flea or house flea.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/02/2020 11:23

Infested OP.

Not invested.

Now, be fair TheMustressMhor, the child might have been very invested in the flea. It may have been her/his/nonebinary/they/etc favourite flea and she/he bla bla may have taken it out for the day. Don’t be so judgemental. 😁

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/02/2020 11:24

Buy a hazmat suit from amazon. all sold out, due to Coronavirus.

BigFatLiar · 10/02/2020 11:26

Cat/dog fleas don't normally live on humans but will if there isn't a cat or dog around. (We're not a preferred source but will do in an emergency)

Roomba · 10/02/2020 11:27

We had a terrible flea problem at work years ago. Everyone muttered about people with cats bringing them in, lazy buggers need to treat their cats and so on. The people who came out to treat everywhere said they can come in in reams of paper? No idea if that's true. I know we had to complain a lot, catch fleas on sellotape and show my legs with about 50 itchy bites up them before anyone would even treat the office though... And no, I don't have a cat so wasn't me.

Pippa12 · 10/02/2020 11:28

As previous posters have said, fleas do not live on humans. Unfortunately, your problem began before this child came for a play date and likely got bit due to your flea infested home.

If it’s really bad, call the council. They can provide reputable pest control at a cost to you. Don’t blame this child tho, you’ll look like a fool suggesting fleas live on humans.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 10/02/2020 11:31

You don't have cats OP but do you have a dog or any other pets? 🧐

Tombliwho · 10/02/2020 11:32

Yanbu obviously you should have binned the child

LemonTT · 10/02/2020 11:32

Sorry but how on earth can the gender of the child be outing. I mean you do know there are literally millions of children of either gender.
For future reference the best “froth posters”, never complain and never explain.

Drum2018 · 10/02/2020 11:37

So you saw one flea on a child and you are now having your house sprayed? Do you actually have an infestation of fleas in your house or are you having it sprayed as a precaution? If it's the latter then you are being ott. If it's the former and you have an infestation in your house, how soon after the child visited did you notice the infestation?

Veterinari · 10/02/2020 11:38

Definitely came from childs house as they have cats.

Oh well that's conclusive proof then.

Especially if you ignore biology/ecology and imagine that fleas travel on people

coconuttelegraph · 10/02/2020 11:38

How closely would you have to inspect a visiting child to see a flea, those things are tiny and how would you even recognise it as a flea?

Is there more to this story?

MatildaTheCat · 10/02/2020 11:38

I don’t blame you for altering the pronoun. To identify the child as being either male or female would have been incredibly outing.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/02/2020 11:46

YABVU to spray your house with insecticide over one possible flea. Could have been a head louse for a start.
Incredibly unlikely that the child carried a flea from her house to yours, unless she lives next door. Cat fleas can’t live on people. They jump, so as soon as she moved the flea would be gone.

iheartislesofwight · 10/02/2020 11:46

anything more to say on the subject op ?

Wolfiefan · 10/02/2020 11:51

How big was this flea that you actually saw it on the child? Or was it flourescent and covered in glitter?? Confused

GinnyStrupac · 10/02/2020 11:53

Will the OP reinfest reinvest in the thread or is she going to flea flee?

Oakmaiden · 10/02/2020 11:55

I'm more concerned that the child has apparently spontaneously changed sex during the course of your post.

Yeah, but they can do that now. Children. Change sex. And adults too.

Get with the times.

iheartislesofwight · 10/02/2020 11:56

i think she's realised she over thought this and feels abit daft as a result.
we've all done it op.
