Never have flea invested child round again

Bloodyhellgirls · 10/02/2020 10:49

Had a child round for a playdate who brought with her fleas. I saw one on her. Now our house is being sprayed and I'm worried about the chemicals and my baby. I'm so annoyed. Am I being reasonable to never have him over again, I kind of feel sorry for the child

OP posts:
GinnyStrupac · 10/02/2020 12:01

And how many fleas are we talking?

Is it brought with her fleas

OR I saw one on her ?

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 10/02/2020 12:01

I'm more concerned that the child has apparently spontaneously changed sex during the course of your post.

Nope. The child changed ‘gender’. We don’t know what sex it or the flea were. 😁

Yeah, but they can do that now. Children. Change sex. And adults too.

Get with the times.

Nope nope nope. They change ‘gender’ to suit whatever stereotype they want to be. It’s impossible to change sex.

puts on hard hat and runs from both posters 😁

It's very unlikely your house will get an infestation if the visitor had a flea on them. It is possible that a cat flea could have travelled with them, human fleas are rare.

If you are confusing fleas with lice that is much more likely, and your house certainly won't need treating. It would be a kindness to have the child back to check their hair and treat if necessary. That's if the parents are negligent. Speak to them first. I speak from experience of a very negligent family.

Teenagemaw · 10/02/2020 12:03

Scottish schools are off... bored teenager???

HoppingPavlova · 10/02/2020 12:04

No, fleas don’t travel around on humans. The only possibility was that it was a head louse which can definitely look like a flea. Why you would have your house sprayed for one stray head louse on a child beggars belief.

mumwon · 10/02/2020 12:04

if that dc or your dc were playing in the garden they could have picked up fleas from there transported by hedgehogs, foxes, cats, dogs etc id worried steam clean the carpet these are not human fleas & even if the cats have fleas (which you don't know) at their house -may I point out this dc goes to school & is presumably in the same class as your dc. (& fleas don't spread corona virus either - as far as I know!!) Basically - are you not going to allow your dc to play in the garden where said animal life has been & they might catch fleas? (& can you tell the difference between a head louse & a flea? Believe me you will have to learn & than you only have to use stuff on dc hair & their siblings & probably yours - get use to the little green comb!!!)

ZebrasAreHorsesInPyjamas · 10/02/2020 12:05

I call big wooden spoon because no-one is that dense that they see ONE bug on a child and get their whole house sprayed. How do they know it's a flea and not a head-louse, a paper mite a bed bug or just a common-or-garden creepy crawly?

OP, have you thought that maybe the child has gone home and told them about a bug they found on them in YOUR house and that maybe their parents won't allow them to come and play at yours again because you clearly have a bug-ridden home?

mumwon · 10/02/2020 12:07

google images for both (double yuck)

Lweji · 10/02/2020 12:08

Has anyone been bitten?

Are you sure it was a flea?

Where did you see this flea on him/her?

iklboo · 10/02/2020 12:08

Definitely came from childs house as they have cats.

Ah, so you ran a DNA screen on the flea and the cats then to verify this?

oldfashionedtastingtea · 10/02/2020 12:09

We have cats and we never have fleas.

LagunaBubbles · 10/02/2020 12:11

Cat fleas can't live on humans though?

user1480880826 · 10/02/2020 12:14

You are having your house sprayed because of one flea that was brought in on a child? This is an enormous over reaction.

Elletine · 10/02/2020 12:15

@GinnyStrupac 😂

Spiderysummer · 10/02/2020 12:31

If it came from a pet, the flea will die as there is no source of food. Unfortunately you can get human fleas. A school I once supplied at had to be fumigated and it was apparently quite a regular occurance.

kingkuta · 10/02/2020 12:35

How do you know what you saw was a flea? Did you just jump to that conclusion because the mum had mentioned her cats? Hilarious that you would get the whole house fumigated on that basis

SunshineAngel · 10/02/2020 12:38

I don't think fleas can stay on humans long enough to get to your house, however I do have friends who openly admit their animals have fleas, yet they never do anything about it .. and their kids are covered in flea bites. I stayed over to babysit once and had several bites on my leg from sitting on the sofa and sleeping there. Didn't really have any contact with the animals. So going round there is a no go for me now.

coconuttelegraph · 10/02/2020 12:43

Scottish schools are off... bored teenager???

Scotland must literally be the world's most boring place or their teenagers the most unimaginitive if any of them would spend their time off school making stuff up on a forum they've probably never even heard of.

BrokenBrit · 10/02/2020 12:44

Fleas don’t live on humans.
They bite humans but that’s it.

JKScot4 · 10/02/2020 12:48

Scottish schools aren’t all off, mine is off this Fri, Mon, Tues.
Nice dig @coconuttelegraph

BanginChoons · 10/02/2020 12:49

As if you're getting your house sprayed for the sake of one flea.

Wait for the day your precious child comes home with nits!

TheNoodlesIncident · 10/02/2020 12:59

My neighbour's cat used to come into our house and she had fleas. It was horrible because she was scratching a lot and I could see some in her fur. I had to ban her from our house (which meant keeping windows and doors shut all the time, major PIA) and spray with Indorex. That was after I saw them jumping onto DS though.

Fortunately neighbours eventually noticed and got anti flea treatment for their cat. I do judge them as our cat will be five this June and she has never had fleas crippled by cost of Advocate though

I wouldn't make any large assumptions on the basis of seeing one flea (or insect) on a person though. Cat fleas aren't fussed about humans, much prefer dog or cat.

And YY, headlice and worms far more likely to turn up

coconuttelegraph · 10/02/2020 13:02

I think you misunderstand me @JKScot4 I don't for a moment think any teenagers make stuff up on MN, that's my point, I'm not insulting the Scots, I'm saying I find it impossible to believe it would be them.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 10/02/2020 13:02

How pathetic. You dont need to spray your house or ban the child. Its a flea, not corona virus

QuizzlyBear · 10/02/2020 13:09

Another one here for 'fleas don't live on people' - they bite and jump off again. As a pet owner who's dealt with infestations, I can guarantee that if it was in your home, it didn't travel there on a child. More likely a pet or your carpets.
