Sorry, another Philip Schofield one...

I really couldn't care less about Philip Schofield's sexuality (or anyone else's) and good for him for finally being true to himself. But what makes me quite cross is all this talk of honesty and bravery, and the self-indulgent, tortured confessional in front of the nation when really it's of no importance to anyone who doesn't know him personally.

In the clip of his chat with Holly he asks repeatedly, "When is the right time?" In my opinion, the right time is before you get married to someone who believes you are straight. It's not brave, or honest, to make someone unwittingly provide you with the benefits of a heterosexual relationship, including children, so you can be viewed by the public as a "respectable family man". It's actually rather selfish.

I had a brief relationship with someone who I later discovered was gay. He didn't even have the balls to tell me directly, and it seriously screwed me up for a long time. I can't imagine what it must be like to find out your husband of 27 years is homosexual.

I'm not gay, so perhaps I am being unreasonable as I don't know what it is like to come out to friends and family (although I imagine it is easier now than it was thirty years ago) and I don't know whether PS really believed that he was in love with his wife when they got married. But I do think that leaving a duplicitous life which affects other people is not a kind or honourable thing to do and I feel very sorry for his wife and daughters who I think really have been brave.

That showreel gives me Michael Jackson vibes.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/02/2020 18:21

I reckon the whole story will die a death this week unless someone breaks cover.
The Red Tops etc will have been bought off with the threat of no more itv scoops and a superinjunction.
I'll bet that the Runner is abroad in a secret location paid for by PS management perusing his new enhanced itv contract.
So pervasive is PS at ITV the Runner will have to be very very talented to be kept on even on non-PS shows in the future.
Young enthusiastic meeja types are ten a penny after all..
I feel really sorry for him especially if this is all untrue as his tv career may be over as a result.

Bluntness100 · 10/02/2020 18:22

If the rumours are true, itv will know. He will be quietly dropped when it all quietens down, he will be out. He will be allowed to say he's stepping down to focus on his private life or whatever, but if it's true, then he's out of this morning and his career over. Time will tell.

NutEIIaFitzgerald · 10/02/2020 18:23

PS was a patron of theatre company runner was at and friends with Simon Schofield, runner named as his mentor (no relation to PS) so someone dredged up a pic of the theatre company when PS spoke to them. I still am not sure whether with libel law, you can draw a line between the two, even knowing that there was following on social media and work experience organised - it still does not mean that there was no mentoring/help and that was all there was or that there was a relationship started when the runner was young. As a pp said, unless you have all the receipts or the lightning crew leak on the record, where's your proof of adultery?

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 10/02/2020 18:24

There is a photo on Facebook of PS with a group of children aged around 10/11 of which MM is one.
In itself nothing incriminating about the photo unless there is more we don’t know about.

DandyDuchess · 10/02/2020 18:24

Oh my thaf showreel. So much in there re PS that’s ripe for parody.

I hope if PS has unduly hard his power and influence that he’ll be removed, however quietly. But he’s certainly wielding his power at the moment with lots of people colluding to protect him.

Oblomov20 · 10/02/2020 18:26

Lilgreen -
I agree:

Wade robson and james safechuck re Michael Jackson.

I agree. Makes you feel sick.

The abuse of power.

Looobyloo · 10/02/2020 18:33

What power has Philip schofield got? He's just a presenter isn't he and surely wouldn't be missed it he left. He isn't that good!

Lordfrontpaw · 10/02/2020 18:35

The ‘on screen talent’ does have a bit of power though don’t they?

lilgreen · 10/02/2020 18:36

Much prefer Eamon and Ruth. PS thinks he IS the show.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/02/2020 18:44

I expect itv hVe heavily tested their presenter star power with audiences. If you think about it why do Ant and Dec present 3 prime time tv shows?
If you look at PS and his profile who else do itv have as a similar type?
I agree that there's a billion actor types out there that would be great and I'm fed up with seeing the same faces, but itv have their Golden Gooses and unless this story makes PS very unattractive in the eyes of the viewers then he will be staying put.

HangingOffYourCloud · 10/02/2020 18:49

Just placemarking as I am off out. I half expect this thread to be gone when I get back tbh given the DSpy and YouTube comments upthread.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/02/2020 18:50

And it's just occurred to me. I watched the Barrymore documentary last week. MB came out in public in a pub in the east end.
He too was married and had treated his wife terribly after this but was still feted and won tv awards despite some pretty homophobic press coverage at the time.
The viewers were very sympathetic towards him.
Only when Stuart Lubbock died at his house did he fall from grace.
There'd have to be an awful lot of serious shit for PS to his job.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/02/2020 18:51

For PS to lose his job!

NutEIIaFitzgerald · 10/02/2020 18:52

where's your proof of adultery?
scrap that, there has to be an injunction or they are scared of being accused of outing/homophobia/dragging a non-sleb into it.
Because they have zero compulsion to hold back insinuations when it comes to Oti and Kelvin Glitterball, who they are still publishing 3am pics of when both appear to be happily married.

BeyondReasonablyDoubtsLots · 10/02/2020 18:58

From sarcelle on the other thread...

"Perez Hilton (I have heard the name, never heard him speak before) has released You Tube about the Joan C and PS incident on GMB.

PH is a bit boring so only watched a bit, but he did say that MM was let go from Loose Women last week. So no longer in ITV employ.

So if he was unrelated to PS coming out, bloody amazing timing."

So MM loses his job, and something then happens (cough - potential Sunday paper kiss and tell - cough) that makes PS need to immediately come out?

Curiouser and curiouser...

Lordfrontpaw · 10/02/2020 19:00

who is MM?

SisterAgatha · 10/02/2020 19:00

Ok so I can see why being moved to Loose Women wouldn’t make MM kick off. Ruth is lovely. But losing his job entirely, after potentially being groomed for the role from the age of 15, that would be mightily annoying. You’d go to the papers for that.

BeyondReasonablyDoubtsLots · 10/02/2020 19:01

I certainly would too!

#istandwithmm

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/02/2020 19:02

If MM has lost his job as a result then that's really awful. That will be the end of his dreams.

BeyondReasonablyDoubtsLots · 10/02/2020 19:03

MM is not Madeline McCann, not Meghan Markle - it's the young man who has been linked with Schofe

Anjo2011 · 10/02/2020 19:03

MM is the alleged love interest in this story. He has been named on line but I won’t name here. It’s not Meghan Markle!!

Lordfrontpaw · 10/02/2020 19:04

I thought it was Miriam Margolyse (now that would be a story!)

BeyondReasonablyDoubtsLots · 10/02/2020 19:06

Another interesting tweet, if it's true. Anyone able to check?

Lordfrontpaw · 10/02/2020 19:08
