Sorry, another Philip Schofield one...

I really couldn't care less about Philip Schofield's sexuality (or anyone else's) and good for him for finally being true to himself. But what makes me quite cross is all this talk of honesty and bravery, and the self-indulgent, tortured confessional in front of the nation when really it's of no importance to anyone who doesn't know him personally.

In the clip of his chat with Holly he asks repeatedly, "When is the right time?" In my opinion, the right time is before you get married to someone who believes you are straight. It's not brave, or honest, to make someone unwittingly provide you with the benefits of a heterosexual relationship, including children, so you can be viewed by the public as a "respectable family man". It's actually rather selfish.

I had a brief relationship with someone who I later discovered was gay. He didn't even have the balls to tell me directly, and it seriously screwed me up for a long time. I can't imagine what it must be like to find out your husband of 27 years is homosexual.

I'm not gay, so perhaps I am being unreasonable as I don't know what it is like to come out to friends and family (although I imagine it is easier now than it was thirty years ago) and I don't know whether PS really believed that he was in love with his wife when they got married. But I do think that leaving a duplicitous life which affects other people is not a kind or honourable thing to do and I feel very sorry for his wife and daughters who I think really have been brave.

Let go from LW?
Poor sod.
But surely if he was selling his story, a rival paper would have printed it. Are exposes covered under injunction if kids are grown up and wife knows? Hmm
The lad's been working solidly for years now, I cannot believe he would throw it away himself. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

NutEIIaFitzgerald · 10/02/2020 19:15

Not on credits of DOI this week either someone confirmed on another thread/forum - I just thought they were protecting his identity, not that he had been sacked. If he got moved at Xmas and it is true that he has been let go at LW, I hope he goes to industrial tribunal and/or the press. He would be within his rights to do so (unless he has been sacked for misconduct eg blackmail and I do actually have him all wrong).

Sunshineand · 10/02/2020 19:15

I thought that about the Oti and Kelvin thing. It makes me mad how it depends on whether your face fits as to whether the press feed you to the wolves or protect you (Meghan Markle, anyone?).

There's nothing special about PS. He's not an amazing presenter. The smug air he and Holly give off makes sense now. They're untouchable.

We actually live in a pretty corrupt country.

The80sweregreat · 10/02/2020 19:22

We do live in a corrupt country! The nepotism is rife everywhere and it's always ' who you know not what you know' etc etc.
It's always been the same. I've never liked This morning as the ads are annoying and the radio is so much better! How people can watch it all the time amazes me as it really is crap whoever is fronting it all.
Maybe he'll hang on till Easter then bow out but I feel there more to all of it and they are all as bad as each other! It's just a closed book of people who do seem untouchable.

Mummysaid2020 · 10/02/2020 20:10

Yes,I have had a conversation about this with my own mum who is 64, she said people were out and gay 27years ago. What I find most shocking is his lying. He didn't want to show he was gay then but he want's to show it now.WHY now? It's all about him.I don't care what sexuality people are but not being truthful for that long is not brave.

LittleSweet · 10/02/2020 20:11

Feels like Kevin Spacey...

Lordfrontpaw · 10/02/2020 20:16

My sister came out in the mid 80s. Yes, we did have gay people back in the dark ages... (and she wasn’t a male tv celeb in an industry that isn’t exactly famous for its
Machismo or Amish sensibilities).

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/02/2020 20:18

Hang on, what is the Oti and Kelvin thing?Confused

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 10/02/2020 20:22

Oti and Kelvin, say what?

Alsohuman · 10/02/2020 20:24

Oti and Kelvin? Spill!

Kittenbittenmitten · 10/02/2020 20:25

I wonder if PS will transition. I just have a feeling.

FemiLANGul · 10/02/2020 20:37

He will end up resigning, citing all the speculation, etc. overshadowing the show and making it hard for him to carry on as it's not fair on the others, blah blah blah.

Making himself a martyr for the cause and how he was hounded out of his job because homophobia. Hmm

covetingthepreciousthings · 10/02/2020 20:41

I thought that about the Oti and Kelvin thing

What thing? Hmm

Expo · 10/02/2020 20:52

The showbiz gossip is too good today

augustusglupe · 10/02/2020 20:55

Miriam would eat him for breakfast...so to speak Grin

Chipstick10 · 10/02/2020 20:57

I said on the other PS thread that I think he and Holly are very powerful. He won’t be going anywhere. And I think any stories that could harm him will not be run

Bluntness100 · 10/02/2020 21:01

The interesting thing is this guy is saying nothing. No confirmation no denial. Nothing,

Either he is legally prevented from doing so, ie there is an injunction and no one can publish it, or he's mid negotiation with a paper, and it's about to hit.

If it's not true, why they heck isn't he saying so. Because you would, wouldn't you?

And why's his wife not supporting him? Because if it's just he was gay, and she knew and had now accepted it, she also would. You'd come out and say this is hard for him blah blah blah. He's their kids father, She's not supporting him at all. No way round it. She's not causing him more damage, but she's certainly not supporting him.

Clearly something major going on behind the scenes. And the longer people are able to speculate the worse they are going to think it is, that something under age was going on here for example. It's starting to feel like it's something really big.

yolofish · 10/02/2020 21:05

It's like a cabal of power at ITV. If your face fits you're in.

How you decide to act, once you know that, is... well quite questionable really.

I think some of them (Ruth, Eamonn to an extent) have tried to rock the boat, but OTH it's their jobs on the line if they rock it too much. And yes, I know Eamonn has the Sky gig but I'm not sure Ruth works anywhere other than ITV?

Holly - nah, she's toeing the party line, esp as her DH (Martin Frizell) is high up in ITV.

wedding33 · 10/02/2020 21:07

Holly is not married to Martin Frizzell. She is married to Dan Baldwin.

yolofish · 10/02/2020 21:08

Is it Fiona Philips then that is married to Martin Frizzell? thank you wedding for the correction

AnneOfTeenFables · 10/02/2020 21:08

Holly isn't married to Martin Frizell. It's Fiona Phillips.

oldfatandtired1 · 10/02/2020 21:09

Hollys husband is Dan Baldwin. Martin Frizell is ‘Mr Fiona Phillips’. All very incestuous.

Dowser · 10/02/2020 21:09

Holly isn’t married to Martin frizell
Fiona Philips is

covetingthepreciousthings · 10/02/2020 21:09

The interesting thing is this guy is saying nothing. No confirmation no denial. Nothing,

This, and the same with Schofields wife like you say.

I wonder if he's striking up the best deal he can to leak the story, as well as sorting out legal stuff that goes with that presumably.
