To refuse to send my child to a pirate party

A nursery friend of my 4 yo DS is having a pirate themed birthday party. I’m planning to decline the invite as I don’t think it’s appropriate for little children, or anyone for that matter, to dress up as a pirate - it’s glorifying and sentimentalising criminal men who raped, robbed and murdered.

FFS, piracy used to carry the death penalty until recently! You wouldn’t let your child go to a Nazi themed party - I can’t see much difference!

OP, you clearly haven't read the 2017 study by Bialystock, Bloom et Al on Piracy in 21st Century which found that there was no causation, or indeed, correllaction between modern day pirates and Pirate Parties.

The actual findings were such that not a single actual modern pirate had ever attended a Pirate Party. And conversely, not a single person who attended a Pirate Party in childhood had become an actual pirate in later life.

As I kid I never once got a party to go to, my parents never threw any for my birthdays and would I have loved a pirate party. If your kid would like it then let them go ffs.

Children do role play... its part of growing up. Its completely bat shit weird that you would even consider denying your child a party because pirates use to rape people?!

My son loves dress up... once I let him dress as a vet... (although they do sometimes euthanise animals) another time he was a police man ( although im obviously panicking now he is gonna start carrying a batton round and clubbing people.
