Dh and I are moving to a new house. It has 4 double bedrooms (the master has a small walk through wardrobe to the en-suite) and a single. There’s also an office downstairs. There are just two of us, no children.
We can’t agree on how to use the bedrooms and it’s causing issues.
Ideally I’d like a double room as a dressing room/ wardrobe and we both need an office plus I’d like to have 2 spare rooms and dh would like a gym.
Any ideas on how to structure it?

There are areas in the country where an 8 bedroom house will cost you less than a flat in my rather crap SE town. These are housing that are sitting empty and falling into disrepair. How is she responsible for the housing crisis, there are thousands of threads on buy to lets/ landlords and are they taken over by people with a sticks up their arses?

They own whole extra houses that they don't need.

I really can't see what the OP has done wrong other than be a bit shit at house planning? Confused Lots of people are. I'm a reasonably intelligent woman and I have to ask for help on S&B for help on dressing myself Confused Hmm so what?

the OP has triggered nasty jealousy from bitter posters, that's all. Grin

…. and posts elsewhere just 2 months ago about her toddler not sleeping through and having had no sleep for months and here says she has no children which makes it sound like a fantasy.

JosefKeller · 03/02/2020 12:43

good for her if it's just a fantasy, much nicer than the angry trolls going round the forum trying to be as unpleasant and hateful as they possibly can Smile

If I was having a fantasy, I would imagine a lot more than a 4 bed house though, wouldn't you?

Changeembrace · 03/02/2020 13:03

Oh dear, OP doesn’t sound in a good place at all mentally

pauapaua · 03/02/2020 13:08

I'm sure with all your money you can pay somebody to work it out for you.

That’s a weird thing to say! Granted we have three children, but we have a fairly large house (5 bed detached)... cost us less than £300k in a cheap part of the midlands. If we didn’t have children, we’d have far more money to spend on a bigger house (we’d have two incomes and no extra people to pay for!)

Why can't you both share an office? Our shared office has one of these in:

www.johnlewis.com/house-by-john-lewis-kix-double-sofa-bed-with-foam-mattress/fraser-charcoal/p4203034?colour=Fraser%20French%20Grey&s_ppc=2dx92700046359356061&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI7Luu57q15wIVC7DtCh3OGwJQEAQYASABEgJlnfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Doesn't take up much room and is more comfy than a blow up bed. Of course a sofa bed would work well but we wanted to maximise floor space in there.

We often have overnight visitors, but I refuse to compromise on how a house works best for us so that people who visit can have their own room that has no other use. Even with 4 bedrooms and an office we just don't have the space in our house to have rooms unused for 85% of the time

SunOnAll · 03/02/2020 13:21

OP Very sorry if you have recently lost your child

Gosh, that's awful. :( Flowers

Lifeasweknow · 03/02/2020 13:41

Just because someone has 5 bedrooms, does not automatically make them the richest people in the world.
I have 5 beds and am far from loaded. Not everywhere has London house prices. I've just had a look on rightmove and for the same amount I spent on my house, you can get a 1 bed flat in Camden. How on earth can you be arsey with someone because they have a bigger house than you Confused. It isn't really the fault of the OP that someone people a squashed into a 2 bed house.

Bodear · 03/02/2020 13:48

I posted seeking advice for a friend whose toddler doesn’t sleep. It seemed too wordy to go into that on the thread when it didn’t add anything. I didn’t have any practical advice for her as I don’t have children.
I’m quite sane and appreciate the hive mind as referenced above. Albeit I’ll admit to being a bit of a lazy poster for not giving full details in a prior thread.

it's all relative isn't it.
I wouldn't share my office with DH, we each need our space, even if it's to make phone calls.

Having a room for guests only makes their stay so much easier, so it is for my own benefit. Sheets are changed when the last person leaves, so it's also ready and if anyone pops in, I haven't got anything to do.
It would be a pain in the neck for me if I had to give away my study when I have friends or family staying over.

My 3 bed is worth 5k more than parking space in W11😂

Elbeagle · 03/02/2020 14:28

This is what you can get in Camden for the price of our 5 bed detached house Grin

@elbeagle @WalkingDeadTrainee

Ridiculous isn't!? My house is worth a similar amount to yours @elbeagle.

WalkingDeadTrainee · 03/02/2020 14:52

In case someone wants a sad laugh...😂
There are actually houses cheaper than this in my area. And they are not some ruins...

Omg at parking space! Love the two different angles and the mention of the size of car that could fit in it!

ClashCityRocker · 03/02/2020 18:00

If its a double room, is there not space for a big office that you can both use?
