To think Naked Attraction is just a really weird programme?

I’m extremely late to the party I know but I've just watched a few episodes.

Just....wtf?! The last 2, they’ve spread food on the contestant’s bodies and have been licking it off, gross.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s entertaining all right and I’m no prude but I just cannot imagine wanting the whole nation to see me naked and hear me talking openly about what I’ve done in bed/ what I’d like to do in bed etc and then see Kathy from no 35 down the village shop the week after. I’d just die.

I just find it so strange that it’s almost not believable (I know it is real) surely if you wanted to go on a tv dating show first dates or something would be a bit less embarrassing?!

AIBU to find it just....weird? Has anyone from here been on it?

Also hate that none of the women seem to have any pubic hair. Why?

The girl who was very au natural all over and proud of it did a recap clip and she had shaved it all off for the man she met on the show. I was so annoyed

I don’t like everyone’s bodies either I have watched it but in very small doses

StCharlotte · 02/02/2020 08:35

hope it does not colour young men's view of relationships and sex, or cause body issues in women.

I think that ship has sailed...

I often wonder who came up with the idea and how they pitched it to make it sound like a great show. And then how someone bloody agreed and commissioned it!

That said I do watch it and dp and I very immaturely have a giggle at it. It's almost compulsive viewing.

I agree that I'd really struggle to appear on it and then go back to work or go shopping knowing that everyone has seen my flaps. But I guess some people genuinely don't care.

CSIblonde · 02/02/2020 08:45

I just think it's sad that the inference is a great body means a good relationship & sex life. From experience, it doesn't.

Squigean · 02/02/2020 08:49

It amazes me there's so many people willing to go on it. It's like an extension of The Word's 'I'll do anything to be on TV' (or whatever it was called) even more so if there is now licking food off bodies going on.

Haven't watched it (bar the one I watched after someone in work told us about 'this crazy programme' she had seen. But I'm quite intrigued by the disco dancing man. Was he doing it naked?

SimonJT · 02/02/2020 08:49

I sometimes watch it, a bit of trash TV is great. I recognised someone on there a few years ago, then it dawned on me where from, I sometimes see him on nights out and have a little internal giggle to myself.

StarlightLady · 02/02/2020 09:07

@mademoiselle - The host, Anna Richardson, is Sue Perkins’ partner so she should know a thing or 2 about the female body.

She has gone on record as saying that the decision was made to use the word Vagina as opposed to Vulva because that is, although technically incorrect, is in more common usage. At times she uses both.

Pubic hair? I’ve been removing mine since my teens, I’m no spring chicken; in my 40s now. It’s a personal choice and mot done for other people. For me, it’s certainly less sweaty (oh, sorry l forgot ladies don’t sweat Grin) and increases sensitivity. Most men shave their faces and nobody makes a big deal about that.

For me, programme benefits have included it demonstratiing sex is not just for the perfect size 10s and their push up bras. It is not just for under 30s. And everybody is not hetrosexual.

I was born naked, let’s relax over it.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 02/02/2020 09:26

At least with the likes of Embarrassing Bodies there’s a purpose to the nudity

At least with Naked Attraction it sort of makes sense because from what I’ve seen they seem to be attention seeking types. Never understood Embarrassing Bodies where people say they are too shy to talk to their GP but happily strip off in front of the cameras and start talking about whatever it is, as casually as a conversation about the weather

keepingbees · 02/02/2020 09:29

Me and DH have watched it for a laugh a sometimes.
A lot of the chosen contestants clearly have no interest in having a relationship, it's like some kind of weird exhibitionism.

The presenter does grate on me with her "so what do you think of her vagina?" Erm you can't see her vagina Hmm

AlwaysCheddar · 02/02/2020 09:44

Its good watching though!!!!

uggmum · 02/02/2020 09:56

I love it and watch it every week. I even pause it to have a proper look at the penis's.

I can't imagine what goes through the heads of the people that go on it.

Everyone that knows you. Including colleagues have seen you naked. They've had teachers on it so that means all the kids they teach and their parents could have seen it too. Just weird

I also find it a bit odd, and discomfiting viewing, I feel like a bit of a perv watching it and can't understand why these people go on it. I watched a couple of episodes once and don't really have any appetite to see any more.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 02/02/2020 10:25

I saw one of the episodes when me and DD and DS were down at Mums.

Me and Mum were rolling up . Never seen the like .
Harmless really but yes , OP, really weird.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 02/02/2020 10:26

Oops , Forgot to add, It was DD (26) who wanted to watch it so we watched with her.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 02/02/2020 10:27

You pause it ? @uggmum Grin Grin

uggmum · 02/02/2020 10:31

@WhentheRabbitsWentWild
Yep. I like to have a good look and compare. Some are literally hung like a donkey Grin

SpokeTooSoon · 02/02/2020 10:44

I’m trying to imagine being 26, telling my mum and grandma I want to watch Naked Attraction and that I want them to watch it with me....

Can’t do it.

saraclara · 02/02/2020 10:45

I've occasionally seen a few minutes of it when channel hopping. It's awful, but if in honest, I've found it slightly reassuring. They're mostly very ordinary bodies, not models, and it makes me realise that actually my slightly flabby and droopy body is pretty standard, and not that horrible.

SpokeTooSoon · 02/02/2020 10:47

She has gone on record as saying that the decision was made to use the word Vagina as opposed to Vulva because that is, although technically incorrect, is in more common usage

Still the wrong decision. It might have been an opportunity to educate people.

SpokeTooSoon · 02/02/2020 10:49

On occasion people back out at the last minute... sometimes you’re looking at a homeless person who’s been given 50 quid

If that’s true, IF, then it’s dreadful.

It does seem the people on it can’t be quite right in the head to want to do that. I wonder how much preparation and counseling they’re given.

Marellaspirit · 02/02/2020 10:54

They reckon it's a dating show but really it's just all about gawping at people's bits... Once they choose someone it's usually downhill pretty quickly, don't think I've ever seen one where they actually like each other and want to see each other again!

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 02/02/2020 10:56

I think I've seen it twice. Perhaps it's not fair to judge it on such a small sample, but it did not in any way celebrate body diversity to my mind. All the contestants were white, thin, and devoid of body hair, and the people with the least "good" bodies were the first to be voted off. I know we all judge on appearances in the initial stages of choosing a partner, but this awful show just strips (ha) away all the other factors that might influence your decision and makes it all about who's got the baldest fanny or the least scraggy ballbag. No thanks.

CharityDingle · 02/02/2020 11:00

I've only ever seen clips, usually on gogglebox. I can't believe people willingly go on that programme. I mean, I know they do but...
