Why the use of DH,DD,DS,DC?

angell84 · 28/01/2020 01:17

Why are they used parrot fashion by every user on mumsnet?

It is ridiculous! Where is any independent thought? Every single post is littered with hundreds of DH's, DS's, DD's and DC's.

Who calls their husband, "dear husband"? It is pretentious for a start. But what really annoys me is why does everyone say the exact same "code" as each other on here. It seems like a teenage thing to do

OP posts:

Yeah, it was a bit weird and I thought them twee but they are useful. I still find some of the thread titles that occasionally pop up from the Conception area rather twee (We're twanging bumflaps and sparkles for England in 2020 and such like Grin) but I don't go on there, and each to their own.

One that did used to annoy me though was AF for periods. And all the acronyms for different things to do with conception. "I was PFPO today." "OMG hun, that must have been uncomfortable". What now?

BBOA · 30/01/2020 08:00

Meanwhile on planet earth......Use what you want. Bigger fish to fry and there
are parking threads to read! 😂 😂

Dorosomethingbeautiful · 30/01/2020 08:55

@angell84If you don’t like then don’t use it. It isn’t a big deal

NekoShiro · 30/01/2020 09:22

Okay I didn't read this thread but I just love how OP refers to acronyms as a teenage thing to do, which is just tickling me for some reason, does she also dislike the term PIN when asked for it at a checkout? What about D.O.B on documents? ft, lb, g, m, all these measurements in these silly teenage codes, where is the independent thought!?

ralfeesmum · 30/01/2020 11:47

Let's chuck in NROF - Newly Retired Old Fart.

(Driving me mad!)

Happysnaps · 30/01/2020 11:56

I thought it was my Darling Husband and my Darling Children - which I use ironically 😁

Cam2020 · 30/01/2020 15:27

Why the incorrect use of apostrophes in your post? Or is following the rules of grammar considered to be devoid of independent thought? Just pointing out we can all take issue with silly things not really worth our time!

Frothybothie · 30/01/2020 15:29

Pretentious? moi?

susanechurch · 30/01/2020 22:17

I didn't know what it meant and now that I do, I agree with you. I think it is a stupid way to define our family/close friends etc. Just write the whole thing out in 'real words' and then we are all on the same page.

Ohidontknow99 · 30/01/2020 22:23

Haha completely agree

Dorp · 30/01/2020 23:57

No.

Sparklingbrook · 31/01/2020 05:01

That is so funny about being ‘on the same page’ when the majority of MN use the acronyms with no bother and are exactly that. 😂

99problemsandthecatis1 · 31/01/2020 05:23

I find the acronyms much easier to follow that Claire said Dave said the Harriet said etc.

BIWI · 31/01/2020 08:58

Here's a thing: some people don't like the acronyms. Other people do. Just do what makes you happy. They're not compulsory!

Nanny0gg · 31/01/2020 09:06

@TriangularRatbag

I don't like acronyms at the best of times, because they obfuscate. So I'm always inclined to reply to posters who use this ludicrous nonsense by expanding the abbreviations to "your darling husband" etc...

Knock yourself out.

...which sounds delightfully sarcastic

Nope. Makes you sound like a knob.

HTH
